The game is really deep. There are a lot of little things that people never put together until someone else does. Some characters lack tech because they have no player base. Puff, yoshi, and pikachu all have gained new tech relatively recently.

the game is old and a lot of characters were written off a while ago. The biggest problem is shiek beats most of the cast for free, so there's not much reason to learn one of those characters. Still, some low tier warrior shows up every now and then and shows off some stuff people had forgotten/didn't know about

Not having an up B recovery move is a huge downside though. Even though Yoshi is a medium-heavy character, his recovery game is easily abusable especially on small stages.

Similar thing with Ness. His recovery is shit, PK Flash might as well not exist. He's got good smashes if you get tippers, but it doesn't make up for his serious flaws.
