And then the shelder finishes eating the slowpoke entirely, turning it into a shadow of it's former self
>It took Slowbro 20 years to realize maybe it should do something about that thing on it's tail and now it's too late
Megaslowbro is a metaphor for not getting that lump or rash checked at the doctor's. Deepest lore, Gamefreak.
Only tryhard smogonfags and edgy genwunners hate new pokemon. Especially silly pokemon. People that make fun of pokemon for being ridiculous (like the trash bag pokemon) in a series where 10 year olds stop evil organizations with rabid rodent pets are missing the point completely.
The silly pokemon are what gives the game charm. Mega Slowbro is insanely goofy, and insanely good in the meta game. Perfect combination.
It took 18 years for him to catch on
I love it
there is a point where this need to stop
we clearly passed that point
but it's not consistent with the pokedex descriptions.
the only one maybe might be silvers entry:
>Naturally dull to begin with, it lost its ability to feel pain due to Shellder's seeping poison.
but it just says shit about poison. all the other ones just talk about the shelder biting down on it's tail because it tastes good or some shit.
>NFE pokemon getting Megas
>Pikachu will get a Mega
>Raichu will get kicked in the balls some more
>MFW I NEVER THOUGHT OF THIS
>MFW IT MAKES SENSE
How is he not? Because he's missing regenerator? He gets slack off AND rest. Worried about toxic? Run rest talk. If not? Slack off with psyshock. Scald to prevent physical attackers from setting up, and calm mind to become a fucking shell planet made of sheer steel.
He's not the best mega to be released, but he'll be a force to be reckoned with.
>there are people on /v/ RIGHT NOW who forgot slowbro is a slowpoke with shellder on its tail and slowking is a slowbro with a shellder on its head
It wouldn't be as stupid if he wasn't somehow balancing all that weight onto the tip of his tail.
Seriously he should have just had some legs sticking out, or shelder bottom being flattened.
The tail is like the only thing I'm really annoyed at.
>It took Slowpoke 18 years to figure out that attaching a poisonous clam to his tail was a bad idea
>Mega Audino isn't just a regular evolution introduced at the beginning of 6th gen or released in 7th gen instead
I want megas for stuff Luxray, that's still mediocre despite being three staged. Not early route shit that can still get a regular evolution.
The ability could be better, but this is truly spoken as someone who has never dealt with critical hits while Cosmic Power spamming. It's literally hell.
You're not taking into consideration the massive boosts it will receive to both Defense and Special Defense or the fact that it can be both Slowbro and Mega Bro. Don't mega evolve it until you've eliminated all threats. It keeps regenerator. Problem solved. It's naturally a mixed wall, something not many pokemon can boast.
It's like mega evolving a Gengar on a Tyranitar and complaining that the mega is shit because you got Quaked to hell.
This is Mega Mantine.
>The battle ends
>Slowbro goes back to normal with Shellder on its tail
>Doesn't remember a thing
What exactly is the difference between silly and retarded? They're two sides of the same coin. The current design is almost perfect in its simplicity. I'll agree that the goofy smile would have been better than the frown, but it's still kinda funny.
Took him decades to realize that being eaten is a bad thing.
They could have made the design fucking infinitely better if they just made him on his side sort of chilling happy in the shell.
pic related goddamit
If he was happy this would be a shit design
But he's not, so 10/10
Pikachu became the micky mouse of pokemon, getting so popular that the idea of him evolving doesn't sit well anymore. The show also established that(and for some reason this is only with Pikachu) that evolving him into a Raichu either wipes his memory or kills an reconstructs a new pokemon out of his body (show worded it strangely) which made it sound horrible to most kids at the time. Gamefreaks essentially fucked themselves over with showcasing a pre-form/now mid form pokemon as a mascot.
Just doesn't make sense to me. Slowking is supposed to be the more psychic oriented version. The shellder biting into his head was supposed to heighten his psychic abilities. And yet this design floats. Just doesn't make sense.
Me and my friend used to have Gallade vs Bisharp fights.
Was probably the only fun I've had in versus pokemon in a while.
>Is he going to Sword Dance.
>Should I Sucker Punch or not?
Slowpoke technically never evolve. It just catches a Shellder and the Shellder evolves and changes its internal chemistry.
So it makes perfect sense that the Mega Evolution is the Shellder getting even BIGGER, with the Slowpoke looking both confused and terrified of being eaten.
It's a super dumb design in a good way, unlike Mega Salamence which is just totally retarded.
Nah, some Pokemon designs are shit. But this includes all generations. Just because I like some of their designs doesn't mean I'm a fanboy. I like the game, but GameFreak themselves are some of the most incompetent programmers I have ever seen in such a big video game franchise.
All I'm saying is that genwunners blindly hate all new pokemon designs. ALL OF THEM. Reading comprehension, fag.
You don't understand, slowpokes don't catch shellders.
The shellders jump onto slowpokes and they automatically evolve, if the slowpoke is holding a kind's rock when this happens they evolve into a slowking.
>does this look like the face of mercy
Mega evolution of Audino, which was the Chansey of gen 5; Blaziken and Sceptile, the fire and grass starters of gen 3; Salamence, dragon/flying pokemon from gen 3.
It was in the anime, back when Raichu was actually show cased as Lt. Surge's super tough rival pokemon to Ash's Pikachu.
in the episode Lt. Surge pulls a good old American survival of the fittest argument and pressures Ash to evolve Pikachu into Raichu if he wants to win. I don't remember who tells Ash but it's essentially established that pokemon become entirely different pokemon when they evolve and that evolving Pikachu will remove all the adventures they've shared.
The same way it's impossible to enjoy new pokemon games without being called for rehash
Or enjoy the newest game of some other non-nintendo franchise and get so many faggots making sure the most minor differences between sequels and prequels are funbreaking
Oh that episode. I kind of remember, I think it was either Brock or Joy that said something like that. Then Pikachu, being the little bitch that he is, knocked the stone away because he hates progress
It's not impossible, it just depends on how they're criticizing. If you say "I don't like gen2+" and give legit reasons why you don't like it, then you aren't a genwunner.
A genwunner is when you will absolutely defend gen one as being the best and that everything is worse, not just that it's your favorite.
It doesn't mean "fan of gen one" it's meant to denote those who go "Oh I'm a total fan of Pokemon, but I hate every game except the first one" akin to those girl gamers who claim they're total fans of games but they only play games like candy crush, angry birds, and what not.
Anime Pikachu is the perfect posterboy for the Pokemon franchise because, like Gamefreak, he fucking loathes progress.
This is coming from someone who owns all pokemon games. Masters of one step forward, fifty back.
I've never seen this happen. Ever thread I've been in has just been people complaining about genwunners.
>Why ARE you complaining about new pokemon when there's 700+ of them?
What do you mean by that?
Who the hell does this on /v/? I'm a fucking casual when it comes to playing pokemon and I don't even think 1 is the best.
Incase you're stupid, I'll tell you.
It's because shellders only look like that when attached to Slowpoke.
no, slowbro and slowking are branch evolutions from slowpoke.
You now realize that the slowpoke is sticking his arms through the shellders eye sockets
That might be a retconn explanation in the current show canon, but originally it was because Ash not wanting Pikachu to be memory wiped.
It was a different time, early pokemon was weird because they had yet to conceptualized how the "world would work". Remember that for the first season it was implied that Pokemon were new to the world and just started turning up (Ash never seeing one in his, advertisements for becoming a pokemon trainer as if something new, ect) and that background animals were way more common. They also had North America and South America as being continents where as now I'm pretty sure they've been retconned as being Unova.
Essentially there was a lot of weird shit thats not around anymore.
>Who the hell does this on /v/? I'm a fucking casual when it comes to playing pokemon and I don't even think 1 is the best.
That's why people hate genwunners, it's ludicrous to think gen 1 is the best, no matter how much you may prefer it, and people who do that generally stagnate all discussion because they'll stick to their guns with no ammo.
>Platinum and Emerald postgame
Daily reminder that I drew this picture a year ago and now it's come true.
We don't know that there isn't, yet. With X&Y we were still finding out about new megas until release, IIRC. We saw images of one of Mewtwo's mega froms months before the other one, also.
This. I know a couple of genwunners in real life who hang out with people who play modern pokemon with me, and holy shit, it's absolute garbage.
>"lol is that a garbage bag pokemon? Nintendo is really desperate for ideas"
But grimer was literally pollution come to live with the moon's xrays...
>"At least it was original"
There's just no winning with them. It's purgatory.
>>"lol is that a garbage bag pokemon? Nintendo is really desperate for ideas"
>But grimer was literally pollution come to live with the moon's xrays...
>>"At least it was original"
I dunno, sentient pollution sounds a lot better then a Pokemon that happens to resemble a garbage bag.
As a person who plays showdown on occasions, I don't see how smogonfags can ever hate any new pokemon game since they are the people who actually experience the changes beyond the muh childhood ruined perceive
trashbag and icecream mon was shit by the way
I'm not arguing it was always shit, I'm arguing it was always silly, ridiculous, and over-the-top. Like the genwunners that argue that now Gamefreak is using stupid man-made objects as pokemon, like keys, chandeliers, and ice cream when pokemon like magnemite, grimer, and electrode have always existed.
Not to mention the absolute creativity of some generation one evolutions, like Three Digletts, Three Magnemites, and reverse colored ball with a mouth.
>Sentient grime is better than sentient trash
Do you even fucking listen to yourself when you type this shit?
I know plenty of smogon faggots that hang out by my gamestop that refuse to play anything other than gen 4 because of "stupid looking pokemon".
This is actually the only thing I hate about the genwunner vs whatever gen argument. My favorite pokemon is always brought up to describe how shitty the first gen is. Every. Fucking. Time.
>he thinks Slowbro evolves into Slowking
Compare symbols from Sceptiles name to the first line in the last picture. Same name. Then notice the sparkles around him. It was some kind of healing attacked, "healing pulse/wave" according to gooks. Blazikens symbols are seen no where but the nameplate.
I dunno, I'm just not fond of when they try to make Pokemon resemble real world things too much. Why does it need to look like it has elements of a garbage bag, of all things? Some kind of trash golem would fit the same idea but would look and feel better imo.
>>Sentient grime is better than sentient trash
>Do you even fucking listen to yourself when you type this shit?
At least the sentient grime doesn't have chemical waste containers as part of it, or whatever.
Guy you're respond to here. Don't get me wrong, all of the pokemon I listed are fine pokemon. A pokemon has to be excruciatingly retarded for me to hate it, regardless of the gen.
I'm just making a point that gen one pokemon aren't all as original as everyone makes them out to be.
>people love Pichu
>people love Pichu
>No one cares for Raichu
Is it because he isn't yellow?
Maybe Raichu mega form should be him getting furrier and turning yellow or some shit, so he looks like Pikachu.
>At least the sentient grime doesn't have chemical waste containers as part of it, or whatever.
How would that make the design worse? Are you implying that no pokemon have man-made objects in them?
Alakazam has spoons, worst pokemon design ever.
I have a gunwunner cousin who literally only sticks to the first game because he doesn't want to "play catch up".
The reason they exist is because Pokemon started fading in it's immense popularity by the second gen, at least in america. The copious amounts of advertising and events started to die down and kids stopped caring about it.
I didn't even know about the Gold and Silver until about a year after it's release, no one gave a shit.
Fortunately I got back into 3rd gen and re-discovered a newfound love for the series, but the initial bulk of the first generation did not. The people who cut themselves off by the second gen eventually grew up and started getting nostalgic for the first gen, but felt uncomfortable about the pokemon gens that came out while they stopped caring about the series. So they justified that all the new games were shit as to make an excuse to not play them.
it's pretty pathetic, because often times they pull the whole "you have autism if you still care" argument while still holding on to their game boy colors to play childrens game they believe is special.
Some of the Gen1 Mons are fine until you see their evolutions are "Pre-evo but moreso". Sentient sludge turns into a bigger pile of sentient sludge. Pseudo Pokeball turns into a bigger, color inverted pseudo pokeball. Mole thing turns into 3 mole things, Magnets turns into 3 magnets, etc.
Alakazam's spoons aren't fucking built into it like it's a part of it's body. If Alakazam had spoon fingers or a spoon tail it'd be retarded as shit. Compare with Klefki which is a fucking keychain. An organic, fleshy keychain.
Naturally occurring poisons/digestive system?
It doesn't help that one of his first appearances is that of a villain, and that Pikachu stops learning moves if you evolve him too early.
>implying Slowking isn't a great SP.def wall with trick room
You're pretty much right. Personally I had a few close friends who stuck with the games up until at least RSE, and I have some college friends who still play now, but a majority of people I'd say fit into your description.
no you big baboon, it is said that evolving into Raichu too quickly caused Raichu to skip some other moves that could have learn as Pikachu. It's the same thing that happens in the game.
>implying that some Pokemon aren't better off in 2 stage families.
But I totally agree. Any hopes of Mawile, Sableye, Audino, and especially Banette of getting evolutions are fucking gone now.
I mean honestly, Dusclops gets to evolve into Dusknoir, but Banette doesn't evolve, and instead gets a mega?
>slowpoke has put his arms through shelder
>it's trying to escape
You now realize Slowpoke has two evolutions, the happy evolution and the sad evolution.
The Sad evolution, Shellder bites Slowpokés tail, it still becomes sentient bu hostile, so slowly has been eating slowpoke as we can see in it's Mega form that finally reaches it's goal, leaving slowpoke an empty vessel like Parasect.
The happy evolution, Slowpoke's psychic powers grows stronger and kills the Shellder on it's head which becomes nothing but a garment on Slowpoke's head
Of course that would have been cool if it wasn't for the small detail that is a King's rock that makes it a Slowking.
I've just finished catching up with the anime and while Hawlucha was already one of my favorite Gen 6 pokémon and a total bro on my first playthrough of Y, that Hawlucha episode easily makes him climb up to my number 1 spot, outclassing Feraligatr who had been there since the early days of gen 2. What a fucking badass. He even has his own theme song.
Voltorb is also an inorganic pokemon from Gen I, what's your excuse now? Magnemite is literally a bunch of magnets. Mewtwo was created in a test tube.
There isn't a single complaint against new pokemon that genwunners use that can't be applied to their beloved 151. I love all gens, even the first, but to say that something is more retarded than something else because of some arbitrary sweeping generalization is absolutely fucking retarded.
because Pikachu is the mascot, also think how ridiculous having a raichu on your shoulder
Because Pikachu wanted to prove that it can be strong without the help of evolving, which is a current theme because some of Ash's pokemon haven't pass basic stage
Yeah, someone said that Klelfi isn't actually a ring but has two noodle arms that it just joins together when it carries keys which is a lot less stupid. Machamp having pants is weird, though.
This. The anime is so fucking stupid sometimes.
>Level 100 pikachu, used throughout four regions, knows every single move a pikachu should know including ones it shouldn't.
>Taken out legendary pokemon
>Loses to a snivy that was literally hatched tow seconds ago the second he enters Unova because of lol lightning storms
A fucking tackle would take out a level 5 snivy, but nope, muh plot.
1. "Levels" do not apply to the anime canon, only actual training does
2. Yet the Pokémon can't seem to be able to learn more than four moves, Pikachu's four so far are Iron Tail, Thunderbolt, Electroball and Quick Attack
3. Prior to the Snivy fight, Pikachu had a lot of his power taken by Zekrom, a fucking legendary lightning dynamo dragon-thing.
4. Snivy is naturally resistant to electric attacks
Personally, I always loved the idea of pokemon, but none of the games ever evolved to the potential the concept had. So I fell out of love with the series. I keep looking back to see if things change. A little token mechanic here and there is new, but really the series hasn't striven to improve itself since gen 1 in a serious manner.
First games were fine as a kid because I had so little experience, but I wouldn't call them classics. Even back then I would become frustrated by the game's self imposed limitations.
As far as grades based on designs alone, I wouldn't say they've improved overall. Designs that aren't an eyesore were rare even in Gen 1, but now the series constantly ruins a sound basis for a design with too many details. Sometimes simplicity is better. Particularly in art where over designing something turns a looker in to an eyesore. Which is more depressing than the designs just being bad because they prove they CAN do it, but they simply decide to go too far with a good idea.
It's a good design but I don't think it's thought out that well.
Like the obvious question, the Slowpoke tail is supposed to be a delicacy and what attracted the Shellder in the first place...so why is there now a hole in the top of the Shellder that is now trying to eat the rest of the body and the tail is not digested or damaged in any way.
And balancing on the tail just doesn't really seem to obey the laws of physics hue. Guess we'll have to see the animation when footage gets shown.
There's no defending the Snivy fight.
Even if we accept Zekrom stealing his power, the fact reminds that Zekrom is irrelevant for the rest of the series, so it's a shitty asspull.
Even if we accept that Snivy resists electric attacks, Ash still had Quick Attack which should have been faster even if Pikachu's electric moves were weakened. Then there's the fact that it's a Snivy that was just picked up from the professor, and a trainer that just started out, going up against Ash who just got through with defeating legendaries.
Black and White is asspull after asspull, without any battles really worth watching.
>No Regenerator so I'll use slack off or rest.
>Oh shit I don't have Oblivious so I guess I'll get taunted now.
All of Slowbro's abilities are better than shell armor. Yeah crits can be hell but unless you are aiming to use crits like Farfetch'd nobody relies on them or anything.
Interesting take on everything, but it still doesn't excuse the fact that this Snivy was probably bred for the purpose of being given to a starter trainer, therefore in theory hasn't seen any battles yet... and Pikachu has seen hundreds.
It doesn't even matter if his electric power was sapped, because Snivy is grass and like you pointed out that doesn't do shit anyway. Ash is experienced enough to know this as a trainer but he still constantly makes typing mistakes like the fucking retard he is.
Seriously though, that battle was like a wrestler fighting a toddler. It doesn't matter if the wrestler has both arms tied behind his back, he will still kick the SHIT out of that toddler.
>Zekrom is irrelevant for the rest of the series
Actually I think that's because the earthquake in Japan fucked shit up internally for the anime so they had to scrap a lot of their plans. They probably had something in store for the Zekrom storyline but had to rush in bullshit when the earthquake and tsunami and shit hit them, which is why the whole N and Meleota arcs were so fucking bad.
But yeah, even besides that, the Snivy fight was bullshit.
Thankfully so far X/Y seems exempt of any major asspull and retardations.
Nice try, fisherman, but he said Koffing's name before pulling it out, clearly noting that he recognized it before using it.
He also used a Pokedex on a Charmander that showed up before Charizard's reappearance, and it was for the benefit of the audience/Cilan and Iris.
>Mfw it's not actually devolution as much as it's taking away Exp equivalent to what it would give you if you defeated it
>Meaning it can not only de-evolve a Pokémon but it also makes it lose levels in the mean time
Benefit of the doubt in X/Y since they haven't mentioned his age. In B/W he was 10, though.
>and the whole digievolution fiasco
Have you actually watched Digimon before?
Voltorb, because it's a masterpiece of evolution at work.
>Blends in perfectly with a common every day object
>Somehow decides exploding would be a good idea, also
It's like a stick insect that lights itself on fire.
>pet monster turns into super powerful form for just one fight
If you don't get the similarity, you are exactly the target for nintendo's and gamefreak's shit that you find so tasteful
The designs are just going to keep getting worse unless everyone is forced to admit they're bad.
>fan designs look 50 times better than the official designs for almost every Pokemon they have released in the past four generations
The ratio is steadily getting worse and worse. it use to be like 10% now it's around 80%.
In the original green and red sprites, the Gengar line makes more sense. Gastly has a "partical" effect where he doesn't have a definite orb shape, when he turns into haunter the particals decrease and he gets a bit more solid. Finally, when he's Gengar the particles are no longer present and he's completely solid. It basically represents a shapeless ghost turning into a solid shadow.
Unfortunately this transition wasn't captured in the official art, mainly because haunter had that "in-between" detail removed.
>different types of digivolution
>no set branches
>monsters that aren't part of the main group stay in their forms
>able to be used not just for battle
>only a few have different mega evolved forms
>most have one set form
>no varying branches
Yeah, you never watched Digimon. And nice logic by the way. Fitting for the mentally disabled.
Digimon regularly have the ability to devolve their oponents, normally the bad guys can do this to fuck up the protagonists, BUT if you are talking about it being used on a starter I wonder if it would case some bullshit like making it lose one move or something since it wouldn't have the xp or level to lose
I was disappointed that the Nazca dopant in Kamen Rider W didn't really have anything at all to do with Nazca.
I was also disappointed that he died just after his heel turn and didn't become the secondary rider of the series, no offense to Accel.
Draw your own OC Doughnut Steel mega.
Extra points for being a shoddy tumblr-tier cash-in to sell more games
I think he means Serena, the female protagonist.
Unlike other female protags, it's 100% that she has a crush on him
>What have I missed?
Battle Frontier, Based DP
at least the leagueand ABSOLUTELY BASED XY
>but originally it was because Ash not wanting Pikachu to be memory wiped.
Are we talking dub or original here? None of Ash's other Pokemon were ever "wiped", except maybe his Charmeleon because it turned into an asshole.
She's the female MC of X/Y, Ash rescued her when they were young kids and ever since she had a crush on him.
I always thought it was just because Ash doesn't want to force his Pokemon to evolve and PIkachu himself doesn't want to evolve. I'm sure he'd let him if Pikachu wanted to.
That's the actual reason. It's also why Bulbasaur never evolved. Ash doesn't want to pressure his Pokémon into evolving, he let them do as they please.
After all, he himself is refusing to evolve past 10 years old.
That's exactly it.
He doesn't want to force his Pokemon to change if they don't want to.
He's actually matured quite a bit from the first season to season 4 to XY.
I still remember talking to my friends about the pokemon with flowers in the playground 14 years ago and no one remembered anything like that. I was pretty damn excited when I found him in Black.
Dude, you're overcomplicating it. It's just that Digimon in the anime have traditionally been at a fixed form (usually rookie) and then evolve only within battle and then return. And that's what Megas are like, a temporary battle-only form.
Yes, Digimon did millions of variants of evolution, but there is a fair comparasion to be made that Mega is a lot like the *general* concept of Digimon evolution.
For me, it makes me sad that it feels like it has all but killed off giving old Pokemon further/alternate evolutions (Sylveon of course as the exception). So instead of making cool twists on old Pokemon, it's just SUPER MODO.
I suppose it's better than giving them new formes.
They could have added a fourth evo stage to some pokemon, but they went with something that gives them more flexibility in the future. Megas are something that can be cut in future games if they disallow item transfer(which is likely the case)/
Except it is good animation.
It's just nothing "great".
I've said it once and I'll say it again, Diglet/Dugtrio are awesome becuse you don't know what those two other heads grew from, but maneton is shit because two more magnemites come out of nowhere and it's apparently a new Pokemon. Even if they had made it so you could turn three magnemites into a magneton it still would have been lame being it's own Pokemon or nobody caring you were using three Pokemon at once.
This is also something I'm wondering. Following basic logic, OR/AS should be compatible with X/Y from the get-go. Does that mean all these new megas and forms are already in X/Y?
They've patched XY for bugs before, so I would not be shocked if they patch this in. Although they might keep the new mega stones exclusive to RS even if you can port them back.
Although it would be interesting to wonder how much of the new Megas already exist in the XY data.
I have actually done the same, Reuniclus as H. Green, Golurk as S. Platinum, Tangrowth as H. Purple, and Bisharp as Hanged Man. 5th gen really had some similarities with Stardust Crusaders
I honestly don't fucking know anymore.
In season one, Ash literally states its been a year since he began traveling.. So he should have been 11 then.
Then BW is like LOLNOPE RETCON
I forgot about those two, but I didn't use Machamp. Nice taste man, I also used Regigigas as The World, just seemed kinda right
it wasn't right
Anon, they didn't really knew a thing about pokémon, that was just a shitty may may trend created during the "le 90s kidz" trend, see how it died down last year compared to before
