However should he be playable, it will literally mean that, short of copywrite, there is NO excuse to deem a character to be unable to join smash bros.

He's the boss of the Pyrosphere stage and there's no evidence to suggest otherwise. The only way he'll be playable in Smash 4 is if Sakurai made a mode where the bosses are playable.

I have yet to hear any real proof that Ridley is more likely than any other character. All of the things I hear from people are just things that suggest he's a candidate, not that he's likely to be playable.
If anything I think he's slightly less likely than a lot of characters considering he's a stage hazard.
There's nothing stopping him from being both though, but he's not more likely than anyone else just because we haven't outright seen him.

I think it'd be hard for Ridley to be playable without him being a semi Charizard clone. There's also the fact that the Pyrosphere stage wasn't playable at the E3 Demo which could be hinting that he's the Stage's hazard. There's also the possibly that he'll probably be a Boss again (assuming Boss Battles are returning that is). This all kinda counts for Meta Ridley as well since they're apparently separate beings in the Smash Universe I think, but he's definitely more likely to be a Boss way more than regular Ridley. Just remember, Ridley's gonna be in the game no matter what. Even if he's just a Trophy, he's still technically in the game.
