Lets have a headphone thread. Headset babbys are not welcome.
Tested a bunch of headphones in a hifi shop and decided to buy pic related.
Anything from Sennheiser, Beyerdynamic, Audio-Technica, Philips and Denon was not as good sound quality wise in that pricerange.
What's the best for ps4 with a mic? wireless gold?
>not having a nice pair of neutral headphones, with the pleather pads replaced with comfy-ass velour ones
i got these, and they sound pretty great for the price
Poorfag here, got some of these. Some of the best headphones I've ever had. For $60 it's up there with some of the more top-of-the-line headphones. Great neutral sound and excellent soundstage.
Also got a Mixamp for virtual surround sound with my PS3. Works wonders on games like MGS4.
pretty pleb. basically the 558 with more hholes in the foam. There are 558->598 hacks
Got the HE400 when they were still 400€. fuck me. but they are superb
are you retarded? Just buy open headphones. If you just use them indoor and not on public transport or so, there is little reason to go closed. And yes, soundstage is really important
Good soundstage is nice for all types of games. Useful for stuff like CS or whatever if you're into that, yes.
Though not many singleplayer games seem to care about directional audio.
See, posts like thesemake it pretty hard for me to tell if this person is really a complete idiot or just baiting.
Heh I listen to music in every online game I play, turn down the volume of the game and I still do well. Soundstage isn't important at all, it's all a marketing term from gaymen headset companies
so i been using a zulman mic for streaming and everyone said i sound like im in a cave. i can get one of these for $60, is this a safe buy?
Picked this up a few weeks ago. It handles pretty much all sorts of music very well and looks stylish to boot.
Also have a ATH M50 lying around here... but who doesn't.
Just got these not even a week ago. Love them so far.
Sound great and are super comfortable.
What if I said I'm using this pair of headphones? I'm using the no mic variant. Yeah, I know people shit on this brand, but I love it so far.
Current setup is
>AKG 518 LE
>RODE Stereo Mic Pro
Feels good having the mic out of your face.
Just ordered a pair of Audio Technica M50X since my old 518s are starting to fall apart (will still use them for work (video photography, documentaries) though).
>I dont need good sound, because the game has a build in radar.
sure, you dont need graphics, if the mechanics are good, but Its nice to have. Especially if you listen to music too with your headphones.
yes, true, but it can ruin the fun, if you also listen to music with them. Soundstage is makes or breaks good live recordings
I am not talking about the simulated-tacticool-7.1-soundstage in shitty headsets, but the differentiation you get with good open headphones. sure, you might not NEED them for your flat-mixed vidya music, but vidya-only headphones with wich you dont listen to music too are really pointless. and like I said, for music and live recordings you do want a clear soundstage
I have the closed versions of these and they're pretty great.
I like how the soundstage just jumps out at you sometimes when games have good sound design and you can pinpoint where a sound is coming from more clearly than usual.
I really wanted to like those, but god damn did they hurt my ears. They kept getting praise as the "comfiest headphones ever!", but made my ears feel like they were gonna bleed after 30 min. Returned them to get >>256332942 and never looked back.
Eventually picked up the Sony MDR V-6 as a second pair for general music listening in bed or when travelling
>want white earbuds for my white vita
>scrolling through random white headphones on amazon
>beats going for 100+
im in new york and i see this all over. if you have bought into beats hype please leave
I read the instruction that you need to flex the headphones before using. Did that and I really never experienced any ear strain. That's coming from a guy with a big head (headphone strap stretched at max).
Got my HD800 now. Nothing comes close to the comfort, soundstage and imaging of these cans.
k702 is not built in austria. Only k702 65th annie and k712 aswell as k812.
I actually stretched them for days, kept them for a few weeks before returning, but the pain never went away.
Real shame too, because I loved how they sounded, but I think my ears may be shaped a bit oddly for them
Had a headset before but it broke so I just got a seperate cheap microphone and got myself a rather cheap headphone.
Since I heard the superlux HD688b had the best price / value range I got that.
After boosting the bass a bit and lowering the treble some I am really happy with them, way better then those fucking headsets that were even more expensive.
Though I know it is stil plebe tier for most.
should I just leave? how pleb are turtle beach?
I personally use all 3 cables. Got coiled plugged at the back of the PC and the long straight one connected to the TV for when I play my PS3. Short one for my smartphone obviously.
Speaking of which.
Got a pair of these at the end of last year and i'm super happy with them. Not very banging bass or anything but SUPERB sound quality.
>Only k702 65th
That may be correct for right now, but not in general.
poorbros where we @
Is there any way to break these headphones
Also have these. Still need to pick up an amp for them though.
Durable as all fuck, and super neutral sound makes these bad boys a really quality pair of headphones, especially for the 60-70 bucks they cost.
Older than some of the posters on this board. My parents bought them in the early 90s, I had to fix the wire with duct tape in several places and the pads are pretty worn out, but they still sound great.
>good quality sound
They are shit for vidya since they are the exact opposite of neutral.
Might be fun to have oversaturated bass if you listen to some speficic music genres, but not very good for all kinds of different sounds you will be hearing in vidya.
German Maestro GMP 8.35D
Nice quality but fine for portable use (no need for amp), coiled cable, extremely durable.
Can anyone recommend headphones that compare to the 7.1 headsets?
I have tried all of these shitty stereo headphones and they sound barely any better than beats.
Something with decent bass, crisp highs and low mids?
I prefer a closed system. No sound leaking out, no sound leaking in. Plus, it's much less space, cheaper for the same quality, and the only thing I really miss out on is true surround sound, and headphones can give a close enough imitation.
Plus, portability is nice.
I own this. It's made for aviation and i only got them because I was learning to be a helicopter pilot for some time.
Can't say I would ever use anything else.
>not using both
Speakers are there for when headphones start to get uncomfortable after a few hours, headphones are there for late nights or when I'm talking to friends while playing vidya
what's the best poorfag headset I can get? I don't listen to a lot of music so I don't need audiophile snake oil shit. I heard people saying you don't need a microphone but what if I want to yell at people?
I dunno, they're probably terrible but I like them.
if you want headphones, you buy headphones
if you want a microphone, you buy a microphone
if you want a headset, you buy a microphone and headphones
they seem cool, but how well do they perform musically. I can imagine, that they have raised mids, since they pretty much only need to transmit clear voices in a noisy surrounding.
Mic and noise cancellation a probably really good though
get a headset. Headsets are fucking GARBAGE.
>What do I get with a $50 headset
$5 goes to the headphone quality. $2 to the mic quality, $8 to the build quality of it. $35 is marketing.
Instead get a superlux HD681
and a zalman mic
Both are phenomenal quality for the price that they sell, and are within your budget.
Do your own research on what you want from them.
If you don't want to/need to read the text in the wiki, scroll down until you get to the guides
Scroll to budget headphones
>actually using headphones
Makin me giggle
totally worth it. They sound pretty dark though, but have a fucking high resolution and can therefore be equalized really really well without significant loss of sound quality
>Spending thousands of dollars on speakers that take up a bunch of space just so you can be smug about how much money you have and how "good" your taste is
Nah, I'm not an audiophile or a dick, so that's a waste of money.
There's no reason not to get a k702 which has slightly more sub bass.
Anyway you probvably should order them all or listen to them in a shop yourself.
Only use other people's opinions as rough direction since they are often influenced by subjective preception, brand loyalty or post-purchase realization.
I went for the k702 and have no regrets.
why limit youself? You get really good entrance-level inears and all your music will probably sound a dozen times better suddenly.
but if you really just want cheap buds, then why not the ipod buds? to expensive or apple or what?
These are 6000 dollar speakers anon, hardly poor
No reason at all to use headphones when speakers are better
Audiophile is a retarded term that only faggots use, and you don't have to be a dick to buy nice sounding speakers. Are you a dick for buying a nice car? I didn't think so
Owning nice speakers doesnt make you a dick. Thinking you're better than other people because you bought x-thousand dollar speakers. You have made it very clear you are a smarmy asshole in just 2 posts.
while the ipod buds are fine i was hoping for something with a little better looks? i have no idea if anyone on these boards are familiar with xiaomi IE but theyre slightly pricier while still being cheap. its just hard to find not knockoffs
there are situations, in which headphones are preferable. Late at night, someone else is not to bother, listening while not sitting in your exact sweetspot, which isnt really very "portable". so shut up and use both
Sides may look edgy but they sound good and are comfy as fuck.
nah, dont buy phone accessories. its for your vita. if you play in public, noone will judge the look of your IEs, they will just see a neckbeard playing vita, so just go for it
>not sitting with your wife on the couch and listening to good music, while she reads in silence
come on anon.
And the sweetspot thing stands. Maybe you want to listen, while working at the desk or some shit and cant be bothered to lift your speakers from your auio-room to your desk.
>There are actually people who would spend huge money on just headphones
>you can buy a gaming headset with superior sound, and it has a mic for less
Retards never change
Thanks for pointing out the obvious.
Going to pick up these sometime soon, I love that you can replace the cord now.
I've got some bookshelfs for my desk
And my wife does sit on the couch with my listening to good music while she
Nice speakers will sound better and provide a better experience though anon
bought this on amazon this year for $150. cant believe i never own good headphones before. this is life changing
Are these any good? Thinking of getting them.
Bought these Skullcandy Aviators for forty bucks.
Yes, Skullcandy is overpriced into stupidity, but they were on clearance and also happen to be the most beautiful cans I've ever seen.
Also extremely comfortable.
One of my favorite impulse purchases I've made.
Good question. I was looking at those since I'm in that budget and reviews are conflicting on how much it leaks. Some say yeah, others no, guess it depends on how loud you listen to shit. I share a room so I'll be avoiding them anyway.
>mfw Sennheiser's USA HQ is in my small town
>people go dumpster diving where they find headphones thrown out with the smallest imperfections like scratches, but work fine
>my $450 headphones are falling apart and starting to not work
>even if i had the money they discontinued these headphones
im sad /v/
My negro. Probably going to go with modmic too, since I don't have a mic anymore and my friends keep bitching at me about it.
The Frequency response didn't seem too terrible on them. Never actually listened to them doe
So did Sennheiser succeed in making Beats aesthetics with gr8 quality or are these trashcans
How are modmics, is the sound quality good? I'm currently got a broken turtlebeach headset sitting around my neck using only the mic, would it be a significant improvement over that?
I really cringe when some elitist starts shitting on others because they don't have as expensive headphones as he do yet he bought closed cans.
I mean seriously, 20$ open headphones have the same quality sound as 100$ closed ones.
Mine are starting to crack.
Any recommendations for the velour?
the cords are twisted up in a weird way. my friend said its fixable though im not sure how.
the left ear piece sometimes stops "transmitting" sound (quotation because i dont know what word i should use) randomly or from moving my head one way or the other, or moving the cord
And the right ear piece had fallen off. i can kind of stick its parts back into the headband thing but i have to do it everytime i put them on
the ear pad things (sorry its late and i cant think right) are worn and dirty and theres no place to buy replacements
>great quality for price value
Mine seem to work fine with the soundcard I am using right now. The only downside is that they lack a little in the Bass department, but highs and lows are incredibly well balanced.
Depends what you use 'em with.
I'm console gaymer moving to PC soon. I was using this setup paired with the mixamp and the mixamp hates 3rd party mics; makes them all sound quiet. From what my firends tell me, it was the best out of four that I had though.
On PC, there's no problem.
Got these for $40 on black friday. A huge leap from my old sony headphones.
dumpster diving is actually a great way to get free food and items for that matter.
Food places especially due to how "safe" they have to be with leftovers. At the end of the night at any restaurant you'll find tons of uneaten food that had to be thrown out just because it was left out too long to be be considered safe by the health and food agencies
M50's on rare occasion. I prefer speakers, headphones get uncomfortable.
I got the same ones, but you see the flaps at the top?
After about a year of wear they started to make me go bald where it rested due to the pressure it put on my scalp
Great sound though.
I need a nice pair for the train, I was thinking about the Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro, though I've heard they need an amplifier.
Not at all, got the same pair for almost three years now.
its fucking shit
I dont even use it unless I need a mic
cheapskate coming through, sounds pretty good though, a little quiet at times
>implying an amp/dac combo device wouldn't vastly outperform a sound card for headphones
toplel, enjoy paying for your ultimate gamer 7.1 ASUS overclocked doritos edition sound card with 4 extra heatsinks and noise shield for $300
I've been using the little brother HD681s for about 3 weeks now, they're pretty great. Bass heavy for sure and some of the higher rangers can get a bit...shrill, but they're comfy on my big ass head and for $30 I consider it a steal. It was a toss up between this and the JVC HA RX700s and I decided to take a chance with superlux, a lucky impulse purchase if I do say so myself.
So, can we agree that:
Over Ears > On Ears > In Ears
Open Headphones > Closed Headphones
>spends tons of money on electronics
>doesn't get a proper desk
How would these compare to M50s? I had both of them in mind as a final decision when I was narrowing down headphones and I went with the M50s. I always wonder what if
on a desk a coil is pretty useful, because it coils itself up when you're not very far from the device you're plugged into. I have my coiled cable attached to my ATR-2500 mic and I detach it from the headphones and leave it on my desk when I go to work, and just use the short cable.
I used to own the wired one for 3 years of use. G35s
Basically "it just werks"
Mic is fine, macro keys were useful as fuck, sound is what you would expect from a headset.
The fucking earcuffs and head padding are dog shit though. Worn out in a year and the fake leather started peeling. I e-mailed them to see if I can get replacement pads but never got a reply.
They make less natural sound but it goes directly into your ears which makes it more clear.
It's not a good option for music but for shooters where you must hear someone walking behind or for Skype conversations they are goat
Crossfade M100's baby. They're collapsible for transport
Just got these from Microcenter. They're bretty good after breaking them in.
Hello /g/, I already have gud headphones, but they're getting damaged, so I will get even better headphones in the future, what dac/amp combo are you using for your eroges that you are listening with maximum audio quality?
I just replaced those after about 2 and a half years of heavy use. The top cushion's cover will begin to degrade after about 2 years and the little zip-lock type thing they use to secure the pad to the headset will wear out after about a year. Other than that, good headset.
Maybe someone can help answer this for me, what are the best headphone for simulated surround sound?
Is the Kraken 7.1 an exception?
>2 40mm drivers with built-in virtual surround software
>Digital mic that sounds good
I have one and it cost me 80 bucks.
Anything that has a good soundstage in general. There's a reason the ATH-700 is renowned as one of the best headphones for gaming. It doesn't sound too good quality wise, but for pure soundstaging there are few that can beat it (HD800 being one of them).
-Simulated- was the keyword. Virtual Surround works for headphones. e.g Dolby Headphone
how pleb am I? also should I actually get a sound card since this shit is analog?
Been thinking about ATH AD700 for a while but I have no idea what mic I'd get and I don't like using push to talk when it's normally just as easy to set up a noise gate for a regular headset mic.
fucking forgot image god I'm stupid
What about noise canceling headphones? Are Bose good or is it all just marketing/pr? I'm supposed to be headed to a conference in a few weeks and having to work the booth gets to be tiring as fuck so sometime I just want to take a break pop on my headphone and hear nothing but my music for a little while on break. Suggestions?
I want to buy a new headset to replace my old shitty pair, but all I can find are loud as balls USB headsets. No one even stocks regular audio/mic plugin headsets anymore for $70.
If you are just streaming 5.1 straight to the headphones, of course it doesn't work. You would only get the first 2 channels (because stereo like you said) and miss the rest.
Virtual Surround is where you take a 5.1 signal and run it though a DSP (CMSS 3D, Dolby Headphone) which converts it to a 2 channel signal complete with proper positioning and audio cues. It's like you're listening to a 5.1 system hence the term 'Virtual Surround'.
whats the verdict on grados for general listening?
don't really watch movies or need the soundstage for vidya
>tfw no bass
>they look ugly
>waste of money
pic is what you should have bought
I'm just gonna post some charts with little regard for actual quality of information therein
Pretty comfortable, good sound quality, and good mic. Also cheap as fuck. I know I am a master pleb.
Where do you get the other 3 drivers
Do you think tiny drivers 1-2 cm from your ear will make it sound different or even good ?
Surround sound for headphones is a gimick.
A bouch of cheap little shit drivers made by a gayming company that doesnt know shit about sound quality.
Just stop trying please and just listen. What you hear on stereo is what you will hear on virtual surround.
I have these in the mail. Haven't eaten the past 2 days, and won't for another 1 & a bit just to buy them cus I'm a poorfag.
Totally worth it.
I've used and enjoyed these for like 5 years now, although the microphone is broken off. Come at me bro.
I was planning to get LCD 2 but fuck man that weight is just retarded. If you spend 1000$ or more on headphones you should atlest be able to enjoy them for more than 30 mins everyday.
Audeze has shit comfort but not as shit as Etymotic.
>tfw poor trailer trash
;_; c-can i have your scraps
I have the Q701
I'll buy the K550 because it's closed.
>no JVC Xtreme Xplosives HA-MR55X
It's like you faggots don't even want to feel your sound.
I'm not talking about headphones with shitty 5+ drivers in each ear. I'm talking about Stereo headphones - y'know, like most of the ones posted in this thread? - and using a Digital Sound Processor to emulate surround sound.
Where the hell did you get the idea that I was talking about something like that >>256349092 POS which uses what you said? Literally 5 drivers in each 'phone which sounds horrid.
Virtual Surround does work. It works with any stereo headphone and creates depth. Using straight-up stereo for games just gives direction, but not distance.
Overall pretty comfy to wear and the sound is pretty decent too.
On;y problem is the cord to sooo short, definitely made for portables and not home equipment.
i have a razer tiamat 7.1 and it's alright, it takes a lot of fucking around with settings to get it to sound acceptable and i'm still adjusting it every day, my desktop speakers sound better and cost less
surround sound is nice though, it doesnt magically improve your skill but it helps me stay aware of my surroundings (not a lot of games using 7.1 audio though mostly 5.1 or whatever)
Most Android phones in general, even from 2009 support FLAC but not all support 24-bit 192khz. Newer phones are coming that support it though. It's not the phone itself really, because you could always get a FiiO E07k DAC like I have and hook it into your phone's USB port; it's the Android OS that does not support anything about 48khz by default, so the manufacturer has to code it in.
If you just want an mp3 player though, the Sansa Clip + supports full 24-bit 192khz (at least im pretty sure it does) and has a microSD slot to add up to 64 gigs of additional memory.
why not just craigslist an android phone like an S3 or S4? You can get them for like 100 bux and it will be vastly superior to an mp3 player because it has the ability to add USB devices.
Just put it on airplane mode or if you understand rooting you can flash a zip that removes the cell radio functionality, making it a tablet.
I cant tell you first hand, sorry. A friend of mine doesnt want to do it and I just read, that it should widen the soundstage. The difference between 558 and 598 istnt big to begin with. You should definitely read reviews from people who done it.
Downsides are that you may not like the slightly different sound (its all subjective after all) and that you void the warranty afaik
I got these for 10 bucks new though mine are white...I tend to only buy Skull Candy
I also have the Viking Hesh ones too.
I mean I'm not trying to call you stupid for not wanting that.
It's just from personal experience, I would want a device that not only lets me use USB DACs and amps but also allows me to use other features such as wifi syncing and bluetooth transfers, photos etc, and the ability to browse the internet and use custom media players.
An mp3 is just fine for some, but in the age of smartphones and mobile internet devices it's just kind of obsolete now unless you're absolutely wanting sampling rates above 48khz. I'm really not sure if USB DACs bypass this current limitation or not though, so don't take my word on that being something that's permanent
surprised these haven't been posted yet, there are usually a couple champs with these insanely comfy and great sounding headphones.
I've been meaning to get a wireless headset to walk around the house while talking to friends or listening to music, any recommendations? Also how far can I get away from the computer before the sound goes away?
>enjoy destiny quite a bit
>find the thread on the general there
>people don't seem too retarded, actually discuss the game
>quite comfy in there
>topic comes to headphones
>people recommending turtle beach and wireless golds left and right
i almost forgot where i was up to that point
Well, just did it then. Taking out those ear pads was almost as unnerving as installing a CPU due to the crunching noises, and I've heard horror stories about the tiny wires breaking at the slightest touch, so having to remove the tape was nerve wracking. Damn though, the sound quality is much crisper, and the bass is definitely improved. Your friend should definitely give it a shot, and the tape seems sticky enough to survive being taken off and on a few times if he doesn't like it.
>a general full of retards that will argue all day long about which console can run games higher than 27 fps
>expecting them to know jack shit about headphones, let alone hardware
As i said, i almost forgot where i was. Can't say i was surprised console fags don't know shit about anything but brand loyalty, but i just had so much fun playing and discussing the game.
Not that i have top notch headphones, i'm a poorfag and can only afford MDR V6 right now. But i hate overpriced brands like Turtle Beach, beats, Razer, Alienware and the likes to the guts.
AD-700s are better for gaming (positional sound), but the 598s have better sound quality. To be fair, the 598s are probably the 2nd best for gaming at that price point only just being edged out by the AD-700s. I went with the HD595s back in the day over the AD-700s and it worked great for gaming. Both lack bass, with the AD-700s having even less bass then the HD598s.
I literally just ordered a pair of 598's an hour ago, then found this thread. Nice to see errybody loves them.
The 558/598's were the only headphones in the price range I could find that were great quality and would be comfortable to wear with glasses. Can't wait.
