Had to redirect cashflow towards a new guitar amp so I'm still sitting on a 9700GT and a 1280:1200 (5:4 lol) monitor.
Honestly, it's sorta cool using an old monitor like that. But it sucks too since I'll have to upgrade the gfx card (prolly GTX750) for shit to look decent on a 1080p monitor.
Spent 400€ on the build so far, gonna be another 300€ until I'm happy with it.

I'm using two of them right now. They're sort of meh. Black levels are shit, and the ACSR (dynamic contrast, basically) is utterly useless, simply making dark scenes even more dark to the point you can't see shit, Capn. It's not the worst monitor, and I'm just going to buy a third for multi-display gaming, but that's mostly because I already dumped 300 on the things, and they're not THAT bad. Just heads up, I'm not really happy with them. Would've felt better at $130. Heads up, these things are regularly on sale, so don't you fucking dare spend more than $150-160. I think that's what the promo code I'm seeing on it is good for?

I can't speak for the speakers, since I don't use them, but like you, I was looking for something I could optionally use for consoles and most monitors with an audio out also have speakers. That may be changing, thanks to HDMI, so look around some more. Either way, even if the speakers are OK, I probably wouldn't use them. Just do what I do and use your PC speakers, unless you are literally setting this display up somewhere divorced from your PC.

I'm not initially going SLI, but I'm leaving it open to upgrade into it.

Plus as you can potentially tell, I'm going to be making the rig a more "silent" build, with the STRIX GPUs, water cooler (will get SP120s for radiator), fan control, etc.

But yeah, I definitely intend to SLI for Oculus Rift and eventually a 120/144hz monitor.

You're welcome m8. Although let me tell you something, if you're going to play vidya on 1080p/60hz monitor i'd settle with GTX770 because it won't make a difference whether you are playing at 80fps with 770 or 100fps with 780 since your monitor doesn't support anything higher than 60fps.

I'd say get 770 for almost $200 less, or even a 760 then can upgrade it once GTX800 series are out. Don't waste money on anything that you're not going to use. That's why a lot of people are making fun of people when they buy 16GB ram for videogames.

It's not like you're not allowed to buy ram in the future anon. You can always get a second pair of 8gb. And there's no such thing as future proofing. Yes GTX 780 might perform better than 760 for example but they utilise the same technology, the difference is quantitative not qualitative. The card you spent $500 will become obsolete when the newer generation is out.

If the difference is $10 go for it. They are exactly the same chips but one has gotten luckier on the silicon lottery. You can overclock 8320 to 4-4.5ghz but hardly anything higher than that while you can push 8350 over 4.5 with ease.

When they are making those CPUs, it's an imprecise process and not every CPU can manage to run at the same clock speeds. 8320 and 8350 are the exactly the same chips, but one manages to run at higher clock speeds than the other one.

If the price's is close enough, play safe and go 8350. If there sufficient difference in price, as in my country which is around 30%, you could get the 8320 and overclock it a bit. How well it will overclock depends on luck (whether you get an actual under performing chip, or merely renamed working one), hence what the anon said about the "silicon lottery".

It just functions very well in terms of gaming and rendering, when i upgraded i saw quite the substantial performance boost, and its not nearly as expensive as other processors out there such as the i5s and performs just as well for gaming

Just go for a 6300, they're overclockable like a motherfucker so you can get good GHz. If you're scared of overclocking get a 6350, it's a 6300 factory overclocked to 3.9. I had to think about it for a while but game performance is mostly on your gpu, cpus help but not enough to warrant spending that much more ya know?

yeah, a mid-tower which is 80% of the cases out there support ATX boards. Full towers are for E-ATX boards mostly. If you want to get FX6300, Gigabyte 970A-UD3P is a pretty good board but i'd suggest you to keep your i3 because it's good enough already

My PC is fairly average /v/ build from 2013 I guess. All is going well except video game recording is a pain since there's no Shadowplay. Am trying to figure my way around Gaming Evolved but it's buggy and bloated.

Next upgrade will probably be SSD + GPU in two years time. I have no rush playing the latest games on Ultra. I'm fine so long as I can play on 1080p and 60 fps.
