>Japanese game gets brought over
>The dub completely assassinates it
Every time.Pic related, one of the worst offenders.
Every Dragon Ball Z game with voice acting and no dual audio was unplayable. Thankfully in recent years they've been adding Jap audio so suffering through that shitfest of a dub isn't mandatory anymore and it's possible to listen to it the way it was meant to be heard.
I'd agree with you if it weren't for the fact that they decided to start doing DB right with Kai's dub.
You want truly painful shit? Arc Rise Fantasia. Horribly underrated RPG. On the Wii. Hideous English voice acting. No option to switch languages.
For me, it's like this.
DBZ: JP VAs > ENG VAs
DBZ Kai: ENG VAs > JP VAs
It's mostly because Toei decided to be really fucking cheap with Kai and recast some voices for the villains because they didn't want to fork over the cash for some of the talent. Not to mention that their voice and sound directors are total garbage. How the hell do you make Norio Wakamoto sound like utter shit as Cell when the guy is still perfectly capable of pulling the same range he had 20 years ago?
Boo saga Kai's even worse with what they're doing to it. Thankfully, FUNimation's crew realized they needed to redo the dub to better reflect the way they dub nowadays and make the dub closer to the original.
I was just watching some Kai earlier today.
Holy shit, if you had told me that Funimation would be able to do a good dbz dub, I wouldn't have believed you.
As it stands, my rankings for the dubs go like this:
DBZ (jp) = Kai (eng) > DBZ (eng) > Kai (jp)
I don't really care which voices are in the games.
Dubs are bad for live action movies because the lip synching is always completely off, but with anime lipsynching basically amounts to flapping their mouth open and shut to begin with, so you might as well watch the dub unless you're a pretentious pocky munching weeaboo.
>mfw Americans were liking a shit tier dub around me
Here we go again, weebs who don't understand japanese discussing why whiny shrill shrieks are superior.
We've had this thread several times and it appears only NISA is the only one still making atrocious, must undub games.
though feel free to cherry pick that one or two moments where recent games fall flat because you're all going to do so anyway.
Goku's American voice is better than shrill japanese lady voice.
In fact, all Japanese voice acting, sounds the same.
Because they're autistic faggots. I get that some dubs are shit but I think people only feel that way after ONLY watching subs...for example. I seen AoT on Netflix and it was sub...then months later I seen advertisements for AoT on Adult Swim and it was dubbed...and that shit was fucking ATROCIOUS. I probably wouldn't have felt that way if I hadn't watched the sub first...all in all people are choosy whiny faggots.
Is there any board more unanimously hates than /a/? They're like cockroaches, they infest absolutely everything, until eventually you have to throw it all away and start over. But you still know, deep in the dread of your heart that it's only a matter of time before they crawl back to destroy everything you hold dear. Even /a/ hates /a/.
Said the subfag autist being close-minded.
The voices aren't really important though. Seriously, weebs are trying to say that a show that's, like, 99% screaming, throwing punches or powering up is somehow better in japanese.
I watched all of the dragon ball series dubbed in
spanishyears later i tried to rewatch it in japanesse. Couldnt make it after 3 chapters of hearing the whiniest voice in history that is the VA of Goku, and i didnt even make it to the shouting contests that take p´lace in later episodes.
I'd take Goku's girl voice over shit dialog and pointless script changes any day. Besides, Every other voice in Japanese version is far superior.
It's like a "Get out of shitposting ban free card".
>Why are you posting that here? There's an /a/ board
>MUH ANIMOO WEBSITE
>Why are you posting that here? There's a /h/ board and this is a blue board
>MUH ANIMOO WEBSITE
>How is this related at all?
>MUH ANIMOO WEBSITE
Who would pay for a DBZ videogame dubbed by the Abridged team? I know they're basically dubbing parodies but the cast fits so damn well it's such a fucking joke. They even sound like they act for a living.
They keep bringing in these shitty, inexperienced VAs for dubs like Cristina Vee (who was pulled out of a fucking ANIME CONVENTION) and the people who used to dub stuff are moving on to western games. I love dubs but I feel like they're trying to sabotage the industry from the inside.
I don't care much about voices in general, I just know that all these non-native jap lovers who bash anything and everything english are some of the worst people alive on the internet. The visual novel crowd is worse than fucking furries if you read some of the shit they say.
But all I really know is that if you don't like Jamieson Price you can go suck a fucking dick.
Tales of Graces and Xillia have fucking shit dubs. How did everything go so wrong after the awesome Vesperia dub? Did MS help Namco pay for high quality voice actors or something?
All funimation dub work of DBZ material has been fine since the frieza arc. Obviously the ocean dub was tremendously bad, and it took a while for the in house VAs to get their voices alright, but from the android saga onward (including all material made after the fact), the quality of the voice work has been fine. Arguably better than the originals, in some cases.
>DBZ abridged has frieza sound nothing like regular English frieza
>DBZ Kai has frieza sounding like the Abridged dub
Was this a coincidence?
I still think grandma frieza is best frieza
Even if it wasn't intentional, I think it achieved a cohesive effect with Frieza's physical appearance. The whole point was that he was a small unintimidating looking alien that was unfathomably powerful in an incomprehensible way (at least, before they actually started fighting him)
>bad voice acting makes a game unplayable
I don't see how voice acting can kill a game anon.
>possible to listen to it the way it was meant to be heard
I'm not sure one can say that there is any way that the creators think it was meant to be heard. If they say it must be listened to in Japanese fine, but otherwise I don't see this.
You didn't even try to explain how its better. Worse yet you insulted the fans of the Japanese voice acting.
Delusions of western DBZ fans ranked from least to most cancerous
>Faulconer's music is much more fitting than Kikuchi, he really captures the epic fighting and power leveling that Dragon Ball is all about
>Japanese voices make every character sound gay! I much prefer Sean Schemmel and Chris Sabat voicing 3/4 of the cast themselves
>I wish the games would return to the greatness of 90 character rosters like Budokai Tenkaichi 3
>I prefer funimation's mangled translation and character assassinating dialogue over the original
>GT wasn't that bad tbh, I thought it was great
>Team 4 Star is hilarious! I watch EVERY episode.
Young boys usually sound like girls. Goku is supposed to basically a kid in a grown man's body. Ergo, Goku has a light voice. Only Funifags have trouble understanding the concept.
>Stiff dialog is better than dialog written by actual americans who know how to properly speak the language
THEY COME TOGETHER
THEY PULL APART
AAAH OH NO
EVEN KAMI SAMA HAS IT ROUGH
>Implying one person doing the job of several voices is bad
Billy West voiced a huge part of Futurama. Doesn't stop Futurama from being good. Just goes to show you why western VAs > weeb VAs.
>post an anime reaction image
>everyone flips a shit regardless whether or not the text in the post is related to the board/thread subject
>this only happens for anime reaction images
>any other image that's not board related is deemed acceptable and the norm
It'd be like me flipping a shit every time someone posted costanza or wheredoyouthinkweare.jpg claiming /tv/ is contaminating everywhere (which it is but said images in this case aren't how they are).
>mfw every general on /vg/ has been permanently ruined at one point in it's history by a single hyper autistic weeb and 1 or 2 of his friends that shitpost 18 hours a day in that general until it dies
It used to be a decent board, but that's what happens to smaller, singular communities. I just wonder why it's ALWAYS some moonspeaking weeb that does it
Xillia's dub was much worse than Graces, IMO
and I liked Asbel's voice. I will agree that Tales dubs have been getting worse since Vesperia but Symphonia 1 remains my all-time favorite, even if Vesperia is a very close second. Let's not talk about that piece of trash sequel though. What a piece of absolute dog shit.
Doubt MS paid though, Tales has always used non-union performers since Vesperia and the director (both on the VO and the Namco US side) was the same. My personal theory is that the old Tales localization director, Peter Garza, played a big part in the quality of the dubs through Legendia through Vesperia because he had a background in theatre and was there in the studio with the actors and the voice director. He left after Vesperia.
>DBZ english dub
Burn in hell weeb.
>Implying I'm talking about reaction images
What are /a/ threads, thinly veiled /a/ threads, whyfoo shit, blatant porn threads, etc.
And this shit happens on EVERY fucking board.
/a/, why are you even here, you hate DBZ, so why would you - oh wait.
You do know that they change the dialog completely in a lot of scene. And I mean completely. They add a bunch of useless shit and make the characters talk even though there's no dialog there. Funi Dub is beyond shit. Get educated, you pleb.
You have to be careful about this.
The english dub of DBZ up through the ginyu saga (the ocean dub) was intolerably bad. Censorship out the ass (including the cut of like, 20 episodes worth of content from the first 75), terrible voices, script changes that made the plot make no sense just to avoid explicitly saying that anyone died, terrible soundtrack, basically the worst dub of any anime ever.
Once Funi took over it immediately greatly improved. It still wasn't very good early on, it took a few dozen episodes for the VA to really get their voices in, and early Faulconer team music was both unfitting and overly utilized, but script changes were largely eliminated beyond what was necessary for comprehension, and they stopped with the censorship. By the android saga, it was probably as good as a dub could be (which is to say, some people won't like it, but only because of qualities inherent in a dub). With the sole exception being that they never really got over playing music a little too much. Ultimately this problem would be somewhat "corrected" as the in house composers became more skilled and more prolific, giving them a larger and better selection of tracks to play too much of. (Compare buu saga Faulconer team music to that of namek, unquestionably better "objectively" and better fitting)
It was ok. The best part was that it seemed to be the only game that was 100% cel shaded instead of this characters are cel shaded everything else is realistic crap.
But in terms of what people expect in a DBZ fight, it falls flat and looks nothing like the fights in the shows.
If I buy a licensed game, I want to experience the IP as closely as they can virtually. You have to admit even hyper dimension plays better than super.
>People have tastes and don't settle for inferior quality voice work in the shows they watch
>"Y-You guys are weebs!"
Hear that? Those are the raging death throes of the typical /v/irgin nostalgiatard.
The german DBZ dub is the best dub there is.
Both the jap dub and the end dub are shit, I have seen both. The german dub has even much better dialogs and the superior japanese music in it. The eng dub is pure trash just for the music editing. They seriously changed the music every 3 seconds and it never stopped playing.
>"whyfoo" shit is an /a/ exclusive thing
>porn threads are an /a/ exclusive thing
>out of god knows how many times people have posted an anime reaction image never once has any of the posts been constructive to the thread topic
Sweeping generalizations, as expected of /v/.
If a person posts an on topic posts with an anime reaction image and someone proceeds to go "fuck off weeb" or whatever the person responding to the post is derailing the discussion, not the one who posted the image.
>It's because /a/ is full of assholes.
So is pretty much every other fucking board on this site how is this something worthy of being noted?
All I got from that post is
>why is this polished turd better than that one
Might as well start talking about American president while we're at it.
Why is Obama better than bush?
>hire a 50 year old woman to play goku when he's a child
>Continue to let her play him when he's a grown man
How do you defended this? An Adult male can convey the same emotions and honest/child like nature of Goku, and can display that quiet rage.
It's not a sweeping generalization when every single intentional shitposter on /vg/ is a gigantic weeb
You're making the implication that it's agreed upon that the DBZ jap voice work is good. It's not. The best of it is bland, the worst of it is atrocious. Comparing the voice work of DBZ to even the modern "big 3" and it's obvious how poor it is.
>Young boys usually sound like girls. Goku is supposed to basically a kid in a grown man's body.
>in a grown man's body
So he's a man in every way except his vocal chords? Fuck off.
The most undeniable part of the dub's atrocity for me(pre Kai) has to be the moment Goku spares Vegeta's life out of mercy, painting him in holy jesus light. They not only missed the mark so badly but they also dumped him into a character trope he's probably most well known for in the US to this day, despite the better dub being out.
That is not Goku. Goku let Vegeta go to satisfy NOBODY but himself, so that someday he could actually fight somebody who could take it and not be alone with his freakish strength and he fucking sacrificed the entire world, even his own wife and child to some extent, for that wish. THAT is Goku.
Here's the correct, simpler version.
God, when can Toonami Ball Z fuck off?
>The german DBZ dub is the best dub there is.
You've never listened to the Mexican dub. It's amazing. It sounds like they got telenovela stars to voice everyone and it just fits so well.
I wonder why they decided to make every single DBZ character into an 80's movie thug on the dub.
Actually those tracks, while a lot of fun, weren't really what I was thinking of. More of their atmospheric stuff.
For example, at https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=yNoB3nW7o0o#t=898
They did a really good job of setting the tone
>Not understanding the the essence of the character.
What are Dubs fags so retarded?
Does it really matter what language the characters are speaking?
>Not understanding you can make a character childish an innocent without making him literally sound like a child
Not my fucking fault faggot retarded chinks don't know what subtly is.
The manga is far superior because it isn't stretched the fuck out. You also can imagine your favorite voices for the characters.
It's not surprise that the japanese are such brain dead subhumans, seeing how shitty their goku voice actor is.
Why they havent made a completely new DB series with new character and story? Make it a fee hundred years into the future where the old cast of characters are legends and start fresh. I am tired of all of these new DB games retelling the same story over and over again.
It's harder to tell if a voice actor is shit if you don't speak the language, so weebs percieve it as being better.
Basically, if characters are going EEEEEEHHHHH? Then it's a shit jap dub.
Although I learned to love the Japanese voices, I still have a lot of love for the Funimation cast.
Who's ready for Battle of Gods dub next month in theaters?
>I don't see how voice acting can kill a game anon.
Voice acting is a big deal in games and can totally ruin the experience by breaking immersion.
Canadian Goku > Jap Goku > Other Canadian Goku > Taking a long strainful dump that's so huge it stretches out your anus after 10 minutes of sweaty groaning and straining > American Goku
I can't watch the entirety of it, but from what I saw it's just.. okay. Better than the French version at least, but the Mexican and Italian dubs would like to have a word with you.
Japanese always tops them though.
It's fucking Toonami's fault. back then, I could get Dragon Ball VHS for either Spanish or Japanese.
Then Toonami came along, cut and censored most of the scenes, replaced dialogue and placed shitty stock music in every fucking scene.
Watch Nappa vs Goku in Japanese and tell me that isn't god-tier. especially that Kung-Fu music.
The dialogue/script wasn't as good. That's a given.
But the VA was miles better.
There's no point denying it.
There's also no point denying that arguing anything past Frieza saga is beating a dead horse.
>english dub had worse music
Now you're just being autistic.
Being able to use your imagination doesn't mean it's not more entertaining to see action in motion. I mean, if you're making that argument, I could say you're a retard for needing even the manga, just imagine your own stories!
Limited for like a week. Luckily a few theaters including my closest one are showing it.
Try clicking the link I posted unless you don't want to spoil it.
A bad adaption is not recommended though. Some faggots may argue that the hours of powering up and shit has its own charm but the manga was just far superior and had far better paced fights.
The first thing is true though, if only because the english OST offers actual variety. From what I've seen of the Jap OST it uses the same few songs for everything. How do you not get sick of it? A scene isn't nearly as amaxing when you hear Generc_BGM#2.mp3 for the 27th time in the series. The English OST aimed to give every moment its own little tune; it sticks with you better that way.
Look at this fucking shit.
How hard is it to just make Tenkaichi 4
And don't forget the original characters (do not steal) exclusive to the game.
What a fucking joke
But jap DBZ is fucking terrible. Literally the only things that made the series tolerable are the corny dubs and Faulconer's music.
If you honestly like DBZ for what it is in it's purest form alone then you desperately need to get some good taste in anime
>The epitome of autism
I can see why it fits.
Ah I see. Well that's cool. I live an hour away from one, I may consider it. Though I'm going to need to find some buddies who are nerdy enough to go with me. I don't want to be that one faggot going to a movie by myself.
The person I responded to was only saying "porn threads and waifu threads" the first is indeed off-topic to any non-worksafe board (which may not be specifically /h/ since /h/ is just for hentai, not western art or 3D porn models which get posted just as much as hentai on /v/) but the second? Fuck no. People can have video game "waifus" just as easily as others can have animu "waifus". Whether you like it or not waifu threads pertaining specifically to video game characters are infact on-topic and for the most part only on-topic for the video game related boards.
Other boards have their own "board subject" waifu threads and those are all related to their board subjects too.
Also if you're going to samefag please atleast put a little effort into making it less obvious.
I honestly don't see that happen very often, I'm sure it does but I haven't seen it happen as often as /v/ like to over exaggerate about it.
>every single intentional shitposter on /vg/ is a gigantic weeb
Okay, for one that's /vg/, not /v/ so it is completely irrelevant but assuming you meant /v/, I can name 3 well known intentional shitposters who aren't weebs or don't flaunt it for the most part: Manly tears, Quentin, SLBC guy (though he's somewhat debatable).
>Detective Conan gets localized
>English Dub is actually pretty amazing
>people still complain because "muh name changes"
>Literally was requested by the creator himself.
I fucking hate sub fags.
Most of the people who say they speak japanese don't, or they pantamime from anime and never took any lessons.
Not making any implications or accusations.
But there's people who just watch a lot of subbed anime and then say they speak japanese or are learning japanese.
You are watching something in another language and then repeating it back like a parrot.
>All the shit taste ITT
And then people wonder why Toonami wasn't wanted on /a/.
Except you can't, because whyfoo shit is /jp/ cancer.
Oh please, tell us what you watch DBZ for then you enlightened fedoratipper. The brilliant story? The 3-dimensional characters? The clever dialog? Get your head out of your ass you fucking weab. I can understand not liking dub DBZ, but liking the original DBZ is just about the most retarded thing a human being can hope to accomplish in their life
Anedoctal, appeal to authority, with a bit of no true scotsman. There is your argument.
I can't say I'm fluent in Japanese, but I understand the sentence structure and the inflections. That's really all there is to know. Japanese DBZ is godly for what its meant to do, deal with it deutschy.
POST YOUR FAVORITES FROM BRUCE FAULCONER
That's why I'm telling you that the german dub is superior. Both the english and the jap dub are shit.
So having a strong fictional hero as a hero in your childhood is the epitome of autism? I think you mean being an over 20 year old neckbeard that watches chinese cartoons is the epitome of autism.
No you fucking spud. The context of the game indicates that sarcasm would be out of place.
>kill world ending evil
>hot chick throws herself all over you
>her line is "You sure saved the day!" or some such
>English VA reads it sarcastically
I didn't say the faulconer stuff was universally bad or worse than the original soundtrack, I said that funimation abused it. They played it, loud and constantly, and in a couple of egregious instances in the cell saga played MULTIPLE TRACKS AT THE SAME TIME.
That being said, the Ocean stuff was really bad and early faulconer stuff was poor. The dub soundtrack did end up being alright, and by the buu saga was definitely at least "pretty good", in some ways better than the original. But it took half the franchise to get to that point.
>You didn't even try to explain how its better
He really doesn't need to. Anyone who's heard the Jap dub will agree that a fair few of the characters sound like total shit, mainly Goku because he's literally played a 50 year old woman.
Even besides the fact that it doesn't fit the character at all it just sounds like shit.
>Frieza's native language
UUUUUGGGGHH, no way.
He was just laughing originally, the animation was super awkward...
It's so funny how DBZ has the worst quality dub for a translated anime series but for some reason people say "ANIME DUBS SUCK, except DBZ, it's good when they change the dialogue, story, characters, names and remove the original charm and replace it with shitty jokes, it's perfect!"
They didn't even try listening to the original version.
That's all you can shit out from your head. It's well-known for being comedic and adventurous, that shitty dub that you felt "badass" with is Funimation's failed attempt at being serious.
Want proof? listen to how he says the "I am Son Goku" speech, blatantly sounding like a stale Superhero. they HAVE no emotion, they just ride on cheap thrills disguised like it.
>those Kid Pix sound effects
>KKKKK KKKK KKKK KKKKKK KKKKK KKKKK KKK KKKKK
>that completely bored, uneventful music
How do you fuck up the most intense moment in the series so bad?
>remove the original charm and replace it with shitty jokes
I personally thought that it added a different charm. Different vibe, and undeniably not the same as the original japanese, but entertaining nonetheless. Only deluded weebs don't enjoy Goku's "I AM" speech for at least its cheesy charm.
At least you faggots get your good video games. Dragon Ball, Naruto, Jojo and One Piece are all in good standing in that front. Being a Bleach and Claymore fan is suffering. I get nothing worthy.
A mentally inept hero was a better character for kids first anime than an a dumbass fight-autist who just happened to end up fighting a bunch of really bad guys. And even the japs played him off as a hero in the movies.
Kinda, Dragon Ball isn't Dragon Ball in English, all the charm is missing and the characters all have the same voice, plus it's super inconsistent in the DBZ portion.
All the funny sex jokes and weird Toriyama-esque humour was removed because it's not suitable for Cartoon Network I guess.
>So having a strong fictional hero as a hero in your childhood is the epitome of autism? I think you mean being an over 20 year old neckbeard that watches chinese cartoons is the epitome of autism.
So? you pay $300-400 for plastic toys and games and the complain that they don't cater to your needs.
Hey now, don't say bad things about the DBZ sound effects.
I like the dub version better, musically too, but the music there is definitely good, and I don't even think the Japanese soundtrack is that great. I also like that roar they put under Goku's voice right when he transforms. I prefer the more "manic" way Sean Schemmel handled it overall, though.
>It came from japan so clearly the spoken language should be Japanese
Do you want the text to be Japanese too? Because you can't understand that either.
And if you can, why the fuck don't you own a Japanese system or import on region free systems?
Goku is an allegory for the monkey king for what the story was originally an allegory for journey to the west in the first place.
And the moral of THAT story in the first place was, "always strive for better/stronger"
>Goku sounds like a dying girl
>So does Krillin
>Gohan's voice makes me want to kill my ears
I don't care how much 'better' the dialogue sounds in Japanese, their voices are painful as fuck to listen to. If there's an option between watching subs or the dub I'm choosing the dub in a heartbeat.
DBZ sucks in general. Making it goofy and campy as hell was the only way it was ever going to be even halfway entertaining.
Jap DBZ just seems like a failed attempt to recreate hokuto no ken.
I'd only like a dub, if
1. They actually STICK to the original script
2.They put effort into their character.
Prime example is: Steve Blum and Crispin Freeman (if they ACTUALLY let them expand his ranger), Laura Bailey, JYB, Todd Haberkorn (10/10 Watanuki voice), David motherfucking Kaye and J.Michael Tatum.
I really don't mind any voice direction, so long as you do good in it.
I guess autism is the same as us.
Again, no one was talking about reaction images. We even followed up posts further explaining that for you mentally addled weeaboos.
I know you dropped out to watch anime all day, but come on. You likely had SOME formal education.
If its shounen it is automatically bad. I am sorry but its true. Every damn anime in the genre is the same. What we need is more slice of life video games. Just comfy cute things.
>Posting anime images is weaboo
No, anon, that's not the point. It's not the images, it's the huge sub vs dub argument that's happening in a thread vaguely related to the subject, thought, OP was baiting.
>Again, no one was talking about reaction images.
I see people every day whining about seeing anime images of any kind on 4chan.
Reaction or otherwise.
Don't tell me that isn't a problem.
The "I AM" speech was pretty lame
There were some other changes that were better though
For example, compare the original dub script to kai's more direct translation in this scene
Although it's worth noting that this was early on in the funimation dub (they only started doing it themselves late in the ginyu saga), so the original dub voices are unquestionably poor at this point.
Gohan's voice is pretty much polite child Goku, and Goku as a child sounded adorable.
DB is nothing like HnK, it's a comedy series that mostly parodies Asian stories, HK cinema and Hollywood.
>tfw dubs are always my first choice
Like, I'm fine with subs if that's all that's available, but I much prefer the spoken language being English and not having to be watching the bottom of the screen 70% of the time. I'm still mad none of the recentish Ippo stuff's been dubbed.
I guess I just have low standards.
There you go, that's the stuff
That post came off as sarcasm to me, but there are plenty of weebs that actually think that way and post non-stop about it on their little forums and twitters
>If its shounen it is automatically bad. I am sorry but its true. Every damn anime in the genre is the same. What we need is more slice of life video games. Just comfy cute things.
So, I guess Hokuto no Ken is the same as Hunter x Hunter. I guess Magi is the same as Sengoku Youko.
And you're a goddamn hypocrite for complaining about something being the "same" when you're wanting exactly that with a different audience.
Hey /v/, guess what tonight is?
How hyped are you?
I think the bitching -is- unwarranted when you bitch about reaction images or seeing any anime images at all; considering why 4chan was made.
It would literally be like going to discuss video games on ponychan while hating /mlp/.
"But they have a video game board!"
I felt like the Budokai games had good voices. But I also played them when I was young and might not have noticed.
DBZ: Battle of Z however is complete shit when it comes to the voices.
I read about the story, and watched the
Hello Kitty's retelling, please don't hit me.I know there is a more accurate Anime about it (not talking about Saiyuki) but I really can't find it. Also, reading the original novel online would be cool.
>weeaboos try to justify even fucking say their shitty version of DBZ is better than the based Funimation one
Get the fuck out.
There is one thing about the DB dubs that nobody can deny
Mexican dub is the best dub
You're making the assumption that the primary purpose of this site is still anime, when that's not really the case. Certainly, it's still a big part of it, and always will be, and bitching about anime in general doesn't make sense. But anime is not some integral driving force behind it, compared to say, MLP and ponychan.
The dialogue might have been worse in the original dub, but at least goku doesnt sound like he is gargling cum bubbles like the kai version.
And maybe its just the nostalgia goggles are too thick, but faulconer's music is what really adds the weight to that scene. The kai music is so laughably generic it could be added to almost anything and be ok. Its like the guile theme.
>Bleach is losing its audience
>New idea to get it back
>Make Orihimes breast larger
>Hates sex and poop jokes
I bet you agree with Anita.
I was actually saying the funimation dialogue was better, in that scene, just that krillin and gohan's VAs did a poor job.
Faulconer's music was in good form in this scene, and most of the big important ones, especially later on in the series, but funimation really pushes and abuses it in slower parts.
I don't see why /a/ is complaining anyways. people are gradually going more and more into subbed anime thanks to Crunchyroll
I know, I know. >Crunchyrollbecause dub actors nowadays are fucking stagnate.
Hell, even Funimation has their own channel for that. It's not like back in the 80's and 90's where everything was more scarce and needed something to attract the attention of the west.
>There are real people who tolerate women voicing adult men
A woman shouldn't be voicing a male character whose age is past 17, and even that's pushing. By that point, boys sound like men. The Jap's need to get over their youth obsession and realize that changing voice can sometimes be okay.
>liking that awful English Roshi voice
It's sounds so forced and sounds like a kooky old man voice all the time. It lacks the depth the Japanese VA had so when you're supposed to take Roshi seriously it's impossible to do. It's almost as bad as King Kai's english voice.
Exactly. It's common sense. Testosterone is what develops the vocal chords through puberty, so unless you were eating shit to diminish testosterone and eating estrogen pills like candy, there'd be no way to sound like a woman ever.
You know I was gonna argue against this with
But now that I've listened to it again, it isn't that good either.
Both are probably better than the original japanese opening though.
>They're not the names of the characters though.
The characters are called what they are called. Might as well call them something that's not a mouthful to say and actually sounds good.
He's trying to distract the final boss so they can land a hit.
Not even joking
Please elaborate. I remember /a/ sucking dick to some custom subs making fun of the thing they were supposed to translate with some meme jargon thrown in. Are you sure you're not trying to trick me?
/v/ used to be a smaller board.
Smaller boards are better.
And yet people will still scream, "SEKRIT CLUB" at you when you try to point out that trying to keep 4chan small might have been a better idea. Or that more traffic isn't beneficial.
I can't really judge it because I didn't spend the necessary time on every board on 4chan. I just know for sure that /v/ is the worst board and that /a/ is pretty bad too, but not nearly as bad as /v/.
>another idiot that thinks kai was censored
stop watching it on nicktoons and 4kids you fucking mongoloid
nothing beats this
>Wanting to her an old hag sound like she's taking a shit over hearing a superhero
Goku isn't a fucking superhero, you retarded fuck..
Jesus, Toonami has your balls by nostalgia.
Thank sweet baby Jesus for Anthony Del Rio.
>has literally said in the story that he's the hero of Earth and has a form called SUPERhero
>NO HE ISN'T A SUPERHERO YOU STUPID
As a guy who prefers Jap VAs in almost all circumstances, the Jap VAs for Dragonball are just plain garbage. That being said, the English soundtracks are fucking awful, they never fucking stop with the background music. A whole episodes feels like a fucking 25 minute music video, and it just ruins the mood for big scenes when they used the same track for so many nothing scenes. the Japanese soundtrack knows when to stop for the nothing scenes, and the scenes with music seem much more important because of it.
Best combination is English Dub with Japanese soundtrack.
I'm getting sick on /b/ nowadays. Even if I started out on /b/ years ago I just can't stand the gore anymore. Some of the resistance is still there but I can't bear it for long.
The point is it sounds like that all the goddamn time. So when he's being serious like taking on Piccolo Daimao or feeling the premonition of the Saiyans you can't take anything he says seriously.
I didn't like battle of gods, but for those of you who did, here's a sample of the english version. it's pretty decent but i think chris sabat is trying a bit too hard with vegeta when he's only talking. his powerup sounds great though in my opinion.
I like it for kid gohan, since he's only about 5 or 6 years old in that scene. but once he gets out of the time chamber he should have had his dbz voice.
And only in half of those episodes are the themes played, and only for a minute or two.
With the english soundtrack I hope you enjoy hearing nonstop music for the full duration of the episode. I dare you to find an english track episode on youtube, and find one moment in ANY episode when background music isn't playing. It cannot be done.
Goku sounds like a squeaky old lady, are you joking? The voices only "fit" in your head because you're either used to them, or you're full-bore weeaboo (which should be considered a mental disability).
>Toriyama is not some infallible entity.
If he were infallible, he wouldn't have forgotten about launch's existence and would have had goku use kaio ken even as a super saiyan
I also thought that /b/ has lost its bite, but when I visited it a few months back to see how things have change it was just disgusting. Gore threads everywhere and I have even seen CP. Really, I forgot how disgusting real CP is and that subhuman lolifags really can't be put in the same league as pedos.
But he didn't sound kooky when he was taking on Piccolo.
You have to literally be autistic for this to bother you at all. Do you sperg out over the BGM in vidya too for being there all the time?
There is a big difference between video games and animation. When you have a cast of characters sitting around a table just talking, nothing serious is going on, no bad guys are threatening anyone, You don't need fucking music playing during those scenes, there is absolutely no need, it doesn't add anything, it just takes from it.
DBZ is one of the very few cases where the dub is significantly so much better than the original voices that it's unfunny.
I can't honestly think if this is a b8 thread or OP is just literally pants on head retarded.
4chan is for otakus.
Or what you would probably call weeaboos.
I'm going to pretend you're not very quick for a moment:
Whenever you see a board on 4chan, pretend it says,
"For weeaboos" after it.
That should make more sense for you.
>As a guy who prefers Jap VAs
No you don't you fucking liar. If you really had an active or even passive interest in Japanese VAs you would hear the talent in DBZ. It had veterans at the top of their game (Nozawa, Furukawa, Horikawa, Gori, Wakamoto, Nakao, etc) and up and comers doing great work (Kusao, Midorikawa, etc)
There was more than just one song for the japanese soundtrack, granted there were fewer than the english version, you also have to take into account that the english version songs you would hear 24/7 throughout the show.
Assuming you've never seen the show before, the difference between the two is this.
Every fight scene, even the nothing fights, had music, you have no audio connection to the show because of this, it doesn't cause any emotion to happen when an actual story-important fight or confrontation happens because a large percentage of emotion that a show causes is from the soundtrack, but since you hear these songs throughout the whole episode when something important is happening you are slightly more disconnected than if they didn't play music through the nothing scenes.
Everyone assumes it's customary for actors to stay on as the character in Japan, Masako Nozawa and Mayumi Tanaka were probably the first to stay on to play the adult versions of their characters and now they do it in Naruto and One Piece.
I nearly said that Mayumi Sho played Chichi as a child and Naoko Watanabe played her as an adult, but that's wrong, Sho played her in the first quarter of DBZ too...
Goku doesn't actually sound like an old lady, she's doing a spunky kid's voice. She sounds surprisingly good as Tullece and Burdock too.
>DBZ is one of the very few cases where the dub is significantly so much better than the original voices that it's unfunny.
No, it's not. each voice actor has the tone for it, but doesn't have the acting down for shit. Sean is awkward as all hell and Vegeta is practically the butt of every joke, thanks to Team Fourstar.
Cancer through and through.
He's a pretty selfish character. He only defends the Earth because he wants to protect his friends but mostly because he likes the challenge of battle. Superman's powers don't make him super, his actions of trying to actively do good and prevent evil make him super or at the very least a hero.
Vegeta, Piccolo and Freezer have the BEST Jap voices.
