D2 was kind underwhelming. Sure, Cheat Shop was amazing and they made a lot of things less frustrating to do, but the lack of a Dark World was pretty shit. And having to do something for reaching the Land of Carnage was... well, something to do. No, Disgaea D2 turns int oa mindless grind as soon as you beat Xehanort. Nothing to do, just grind your characters and your items.

Also, as of now the japanese aren't too fond of the PS4 because it doesn't have enough games to get their attention. NIS isn't a biggie, so they aren't likely to focus on a system like that, at least for now.

For people who think that person on the poster is Laharl. It is not. The only similarities are hair color and the scarf.

The eye color is different.
Laharl's hair antennas are missing, that is one of his trademarks.
And the scarf is normally giving to the main character, AKA Ashe from Phantom Brave has a red scarf.

The amount of asspull was beyond my suspension of disbelief was willing to take me and I have beaten most NIS games. I kind of wish NIS would make more Tactic games that were more strategy than grinding. I doubt Disgaea will ever break out of the whole "Big Honking Number! So Crazy!" gimmick, but it definitely has a very fleshed out class system. I always felt it was a bit underutilized, but the cheat shop could solve a lot of the imbalance issues by adding options to limit grinding and stat/equipment abuse. Though, that would require a lot of damage formula changes, so that's highly unlikely.

Also, less story/unique units. It's almost as bad as FFT as far as the Unique:Generic ratio goes, but at least the story characters still have to abide by the class system.

Make monster class interesting again, like, on their own and not by becoming "power ups for human classes".

kinda expected for a fresh new studio, the spritework for a disgaea game is horribly time consuming, since you have to draw each character in 4 angles doing each emotion loop and you have to cover all the position/emotion of the game because in Disgaea most move are generic and thus you need to be able to run the animation on anybody.
In 3D, you just literally create a collection of models with roughtly the same proportions, then work on one bones and apply it automatically to everybody. What takes months in 2D can take a week top in 3D

For example you'll probably encounter this bitch who has the running joke of trying to be the main character of a videogame (she was apparently supposed to star in "Makai Wars" which never happened).

Part of the joke is that she tends to not get memos (her Disgaea 2 sprites are her smaller Makai Kingdom sprites, and her initial Disgaea 4 sprites are low-res regardless of setting), and her voice actor and personality change with each game.

The game starts out simply enough but has increasingly harder difficulty. Basically you can pick whatever path you want, with each level having a different version of higher difficulty as you continue.

The final boss of 1 basically requires you to use a button mashing trick if you want to beat him before time runs out though.
