If Stewart Copeland is so god-tier, then why did he sit back and let Sting compose almost everything while he was in The Police?

Checkmate, atheists.

Why are western games' music so fucking boring a derivative every time an orchestra is involved?

American composers have been making great music: www.youtube.com/watch?v=ynEOo28lsbc

And yet most western video games produce dogshit that sounds like something Two Steps from Hell shat out.

Modern "epic" music fucking sucks.

I'm confusing it with nothing. He's not very good with melody. He just strings together pleasant-sounding chords and harmonies awash with serene effects. Technical skill has nothing to do with it, he is creating mood for video games and is completely successful at doing so, in fact better than most other composers at it.

>Uematsu is leagues more adept and versatile.

Because he's not afraid to mine other sources for influence and inspiration. He's the chameleon while Yasunori Mitsuda's style is more personal. Both are ace composers though, I pity you for having to prefer one over the other.
>>
>>253972649
>What else do you need exactly?

Well, as Mozart said, melody is the essence of music. Without melody you just have...harmonies that sound nice. Creating nice harmonies is actually very easy to do; I encourage you to try some time and see how easily it comes if you dabble a little bit.

Coming up with a distinct tune, that you can whistle or hum to yourself, that stands out completely independent of any backing, is a much more admirable feat to me, and therefore I consider composers practiced in this kind of art much more talented. Otherwise you just have generic fantasy music. Go see any big-budget Hollywood movie and you'll see what I mean. It's just bland and forgettable.

>Being this tone deaf

Bobby Prince also changed the pitch and key of some of his plagiarisations you know. But to clarify, I still think Yuzo Koshiro is pretty awesome. Took his favorite mix tapes and turned them into kick ass Beat em Up soundtracks. And has made some ring tone tier tracks in between as well.

His new album is shit though. Trying hard to get back to his metal roots. Ironically undertow is the best track.

It's not even just the key, the tempo, mood and overall composition are very different in a lot of the tracks despite some similarity. Seriously, calling the vast majority of these "plagiarism" is wrong. Hell, even saying he got inspired by some of the tracks is a stretch.

Mein neger.
He's pretty much godly with NES music. He wasn't bad in the GB/GBC days as well.

I also like Eveline Fischer, Graeme Norgate, Yuzo Koshiro, Grant Kirkhope, David Wise, Nobuo Uematsu, Tim & Geoff Follin, Jun Ishikawa, Hirokazu Ando, Hip Tanaka and Kazumi Totaka

She hasn't made a single bad track.

Her work in KH is especially impressive with all the overarching themes and connections she draws between tracks.

Kenji Ito, who I remember working on a lot of the SaGa games. Pretty sure he did work on other Square games, too.

I like him but I wish he wouldn't play guitar at the live shows... he's a better composer than he is a player.
Also they need to hire a better mixer when they release live stuff.

all he did was mash piano keys in respective chord progression in and then quantized everything to make it not sound absolutely terrible.

if that makes someone a good composer i could make spyro tier music with my eyes closed.
>>
>>253976776
I love his jazzy music and his pop is alright, but his work on the Persona remake was a bit much. Still liked it, but "Live is ballin manly" is probably not what the the developers originally envisioned as music to accompany demon busting.

That reminds that Kenji Ito also worked on Devil Survivor 2 and composed my favorite song in that game.

It's very unique, especially for a SNES game. There is a full translation patch for it somewhere.

It's really good, lot's of missable content in certain chapters. Use a guide on the second playthrough to get even more out of teh game.

>>253978249
>first song
>30 seconds in, a bunch of the same notes after the other, with 2 lower notes, then repeated in a different key

yes, that's mashing notes. If you don't know what quantize does, it basically organizes notes by certain timing to make it sound cleaner.

All the technical shit about music goes over my head, for the most part.

All I know is that Spyro has gud music, which makes Copeland a gud composer in my book.

His chiptune stuff is amazing, and I love how he can compose at the other end of the spectrum as well with Mighty Switch Force.

>>253978978
i think most of it sounds like shit from a laymans perspective and a technical perspective. he even gloats in the behind the scenes footage for making spyro music about who he gets paid to basically throw bullshit into a program and make it sound half pretty.
