okay like this. could this be art? not saying this one has to be I'm just saying, can you open up new pathways to emotional receptors in the brain by all the distortions involved in the photography process? can you open up new windows to the soul or whatever?

If you go into the console, disable the HUD, and take a screenshot, sure. If you're using a fucking camera phone, you're no better than those who take angled shots of their Coke cans.

I think the fact that you are questioning this makes it art.

Not that it is something to be proud of or whatever.

>>
Personally, I think it looks really cool. Probably more of a novelty than anything else. Definitely not something I'd consider 'art' unless there was some sort of meaning behind the photo.

OP, go take a picture of a game over or a victory screen or something. That might be interesting to see through the 'filter' of a photo.

OP instead of trying to make art try to make something people would enjoy instead.

I know you're going to say you're just trying to start a discussion but the real reason is that you're just looking to be special.

you realize there are just about an infinite many ways to take a photo of any given game right

just because some guy arranged the art assets a certain way doesn't mean they made all the resulting images

that's like saying a photographer taking a picture of a building is just taking a bad pic of someone else's (the builder's) work

Nah, that's a terrible analogy and you know it. Taking a picture of a screen is an awful idea in the first place because of the lighting and glare.Have fun, sorry I don't like your idea though.

>>253834356

that's like saying a photographer taking a picture of a building is just taking a bad pic of someone else's (the builder's) work

that's exactly what it is

show me an amazing photo from a video game that makes me praise the photographer and not the people who made the game

lmao what does that even mean

>implying visual imperfections can't enhance the look of the photo

>>253834871
if you're taking photographs for praise, you're doing it wrong

the point is to give you a response

if a photograph makes you think "my God this world is amazing", that's a good photo, regardless of what you think of the photographer. who gives a shit about some guy with a camera. the point is the picture

that's pretty much correct. Unless the artistic merit of the photo arrises from something other than the building itself (perhaps it's a macro shot, the building itself is compared alongside some other thing in an interesting way, etc) then you're just taking a photo of a building
>>
>>253835192
>if a photograph makes you think "my God this world is amazing", that's a good photo, regardless of what you think of the photographer. who gives a shit about some guy with a camera. the point is the picture

Then all these photos are shit
>>
I guess what you're doing is art, but it's not very good. Most of the time, taking a picture of the screen adds nothing interesting that a screenshot wouldn't have. Unless you're contextualizing it in an interesting way, it's worthless.

Good examples would be showing a game running on an arcade cabinet that you built yourself. Or showing what Metal Gear Rising looks like on a CRT. If the screen matters, or what's outside the screen matters, than it's a worthy reason to take a picture of the screen.

>>
>>253835192

I agree that photos should not be taken for praise, but for one to not seek praise for their work is uncommon. There are people that paint, make music, etc. all for themselves and feel no need to share it, but most fall also under being entertainers, people who want to display what they have created and hopefully impart emotions to whomever is taking in their work.

You posting your photos (assuming such) is showing that you fall under being an entertainer and are seeking a connection with someone through the photos. If they make you happy, by all means that is fucking rad man, I love when people are passionate about anything at all, but don't expect people to find contemporary art pieces in camera phone shots that someone could recreate in those games in very short time.

A photo is good to me when it conveys an emotion or captures something that you cannot see in everyday life, first for yourself and then possibly to a viewer, because most people do have a an ego that must be waxed from time to time to not make us feel insignificant.
