I played Pokemon Blue back when it was new.

I've only been getting 50-70 hours out of Pokemon ever since gen 3. Playing the SP is pretty much all I do, maybe a Pokemon battle or two with a friend. I play them mostly because I like catching Pokemon I come across. I'm not at all competitive.

I use the explore a lot in games trying to find shit like this and that so I guess I sounded like that kid a lot of the time. I never lied about it though.

But I would tell stories with my games, I would treat them as my bros and go on adventures like they did on the show. That was the appeal of pokemon for me, and why every game after Sapphire has been disappointing.
I didn't look anything up, so you had to actually waste hours trying items on pokemon to see what made them evolve, and junk like that.

I just can't picture 1000 hours. That's a fucking lot of time. For reference, I think it took me 40 hours to beat LeafGreen, which was my first pokemon experience ever. I had no idea what I was doing and I definitely wasted heaps of time doing things wrong as well. But I clocked it. I basically only put it down after I got sick of looking for Suicune well after I'd completed all of the story and leveled my 6 to the point where it got tedious.

i then went on a bit of a hike through a cave with them, then swapped them out with other pokemon to explore lumiose, that giant-ass hub city in the middle [in which i'm /still/ finding things and got it not long after release] - we went to a restaurant and climbed the eiffel tower. i never would've really done it without him "guiding" me there. it was the most fun i've had with pokemon in a very long time.

maybe i unlocked a bit of my inner autism, maybe i unlocked a bit of my inner kid, but the thing is, it's still totally possible use your imagination; in fact, now there's even more stuff to do.

Yeah, the only games I had back then was Jungle Book on the SNES, Donkey Kong 1&2 on SNES, and Red.
I got Silver eventually, but wasn't as into it. Kanto seemed lifeless and I sperged out at all the problems so I finished after I beat Red on the mountain. I remember I found a level 7 fearow near Viridian City and I was convinced I'd fucked up the game somehow so I reset it.
Then I spent heaps of time with Sapphire too (probably 200 hours or thereabouts) because I loved the environment and making secret bases.
