>tfw there will never be Nexus 2
Not him, but damn are playable borg overpowered. I read that the playable version was brought down from the bossmode ai borg, so I thought I'd give them a try.
They're only kind of weak in the early game where all your shit is so slow you can't properly defend yourself if you are even slightly offensive. After that you quickly become an economic god with pretty much unlimited resources, and once you get a tactical cube, the game basically plays itself. Send that shit over to the nearest pirate base to eat it for levels, and it can solo everything.
>Implying I don't turn assimilation autocast off on everything because assimilated ships are wasting fleet cap on what could be more spheres
If it's not a capital ship it's not worth keeping
From what I recall, they tried to get crowd-funding for their games twice before, both times before the whole craze about it started, asked for around 400k euros and both times failed to reach the goal.
Sad really, when you see what other kinds of shit got funded.
Also, I much preferred the ship we had as the main one in the early missions than the alien one.
It was at the same time as a couple of other kickstarters. I tried starting a thread about it but it just died off instantly because not enough people have played it to recognize it.
Nexus 1 hard mode is suffering
Rebellion to my knowledge.
Although i think you can find the mod available for the other versions too.
After a check through moddb, it seems that the only version of it currently around is the one that requires rebellion.
I loved the amount of detail they dedicated to it, like these rotating rings which helped maintain artificial gravity in ships.
>there will never be a Babylon 5 video game that lives up to the greatness of the series
There aren't much reasons to worry, it already delivered a whole fucking lot. Just see webm related, released just yesterday.
Yes, that's from the game.
It's supposed to release at the end of the year with 25 ships from small fighters large haulers, war vessels and even a cruise liner.
Also pic related.
>sexy taiidan ships
God, Homeworld ship design is the most beautiful I've ever seen
I agree, it's lovely. You should look up an artist names Peter Elson. He was one of the main sources of inspiration for the ship designs - they actually named a character in the first game after him as tribute. His art is pretty cool.
I loved this ship. Played the demo no end and when I got the full game, didn't want to leave it behind
From what I see around here, it's always been mainly the Elite people who are busy trying to kill SC. As far as I'm aware SC fans are perfectly content wildly hyping themselves SC.
Station landing, and other tedium has always seemed neat to me. I love the immersion of that.
I know. It's niche as it is, I'd rather not see similar fans start shit flinging instead of chatting about space games
Most Star Citizen backers are just in because they played Freelancer, or followed the hype. There are few people among them who even know what Elite is, just like few actually are interested in space sims. They think it's all a war and are fighting as if there was an overabundance of space sims.
That's why there's such a "war". Most Elite Dangerous backers on the other hand are true space sim lovers and backed both, and don't really care to argue about anything, precisely because they know we've just been through 12 years without a good space sim.
They removed the holographic weapons from the HMD and cleaned it up a bit
This is the closest I've got to an example. Still needs some work.
>try to start space thread where people guided me through a match
I dont get it guys.
Besides adding new models and your typical old factions (Taiidan, Turanic, Kadesh, Progenitor, Bentusi now?), nothing much.
I personally prefer both Complex and Simplex mods, but I loved the old PDS mod, especially during 1 on 1 capships battles. All those bullets, missiles and flak explosions, it looks like a game directed by Michael Bay.
It reintroduces the Taidan, Turanic Raiders, and Kadeeshi fleets and lets you play as Progenitors.
all you fags need a REAL spaceship, not some fancy airplane with rayguns taped on
Considering how old the backers are, I'm more inclined to think SC also has a sizeable proportion of true space sim lovers.
It's alright, I guess. Needs more shit blowing up
H-here I go guys. Wish me luck. I'll keep dumping my match as I go.
Should help keep the thread alive
At this point I think it's inevitable there will be an Edison Trent NPC in the game
There have been Elite generals?
No wonder they die, there are too many kids on 4chan that they would even know what Elite is. Though I guess there's much talk these days considering Elite Dangerous is coming.
Thanks will do.
Another artist who I found makes some cool ship designs that definitely belong in vidya is manchu
Why does this thing have wires all over it?
Yeah, it's looking pretty good for pricing. I'm going to drop $75 or whatever it is for standard beta at the end of the month as a birthday present for myself. I hope they follow up with player established strutcures for expansions, I'd love to get a group of bros and fuck off to the other side of the galaxy and just wait for others to come. Make mad dank bucks on fuel and ammo
When is the beta for Elite going to be accessible for normal backers?
And why did Space Engineers waste a second thursday update to implement more fucking wheels in outer space?
Aegis Masterrace don't need no fancy hologlobes
Or much of anything
>tfw no more Space-FPS
>no more floating around, powered down, pretending to be a corpse
>no more EMP-ing people to make them helpless popsicles
>no more, calculating in weapon recoil before firing
>no more using minimum gravity as a facor for bullet-trajectory
It was just a setpiece for the SQ42 campaign, which starts on a mining station but then they decided they might as well find a way to let players drive it for real in SC
> They think it's all a war and are fighting as if there was an overabundance of space sims.
As far as I know, there is no war. It's just one or two shitposters who like to instigate and stir people up. Also Elite Dangerous only has a general sometimes, so their dudes come into Star Citizen General and fuck around.
This game had a shitty fate, it sucks that they updated with new weapons, that really took away from the purpose of using the environment and 360 degrees of movement tactically, the weapon didn't matter.
Sadly it's fucking dead as hell now and bot matches are just not fun after a while.
They should have just released it for free, but it's too late now
the Angry Birds developers own the IP and bought out Futuremark Games Studio
>so you can NEET while you NEET
They have a different balance, but so far they do the exact same thing.
The only key difference is that in Elite, secondary thrusters have fixed positions, while in Star Citizen, many actually rotate around a pivot point: this makes the simulation more complex, but it's not the kind of complexity that make it "better" or "more interesting", it simply makes ships handle differently.
17 days, better than expected.
Gatling gun and rocket launcher, plus automated turrets if you count them as weapons.
Still not much to use them on, wish they'd add AI to factions.
Well the old elite fans have typically backed both games and are excited for both.
The ones who favour ED on its own are typically younger ones who don't like multiplayer games since ED will let them dodge player conflict.
Meanwhile SC will have a fuckton of player conflict capacity.
And guilds. Which ED does not have.
In effect Frontier are trying to make a singleplayer game with multiplayer elements.
>there will never be a modern game set in the distant future where mankind has unlocked FTL travel
>where you can get a ship on the cheap and take missions
>where the galaxy is open to you and plays sort of like a sandbox exploration game
>your ship is your home base, and can be renovated, retrofitted, sold, destroyed, etc.
>several ship types and designs
>be a merchant-explorer, guard for hire, raider, pirate, soldier, etc.
it doesn't really seem that fucking hard to do, what's the deal?
I'd even be happy with Euro Truck Sim (in Space)
ED and SC both offer that in different ways
You need Elite Dangerous in your life.
Wait until the beta is released on the 29th though, it's not worth getting now.
>Infinity: The Quest for Earth will never EVER be released
>In effect Frontier are trying to make a singleplayer game with multiplayer elements.
I am ok with that and I am 43. Wouldn't mind if they made it more cut-throat, but I am glad they are focusing on SP.
I backed Elite only. Definitely gonna try SC when it comes out, though. I can see they are going to turn different enough for me to play both,
>this used to be a crawlspace
Goddamn Avenger is like some kind of goddamn TARDIS
I need front, top, bottom, views, cross-sections, measurements, you're talking to a dorf-fort vet here, not some minecraft kiddo!
>Your collar begins to emit a high pitched beeping noise...
I would post those but that's all I've got.
It isn't unless you're playing Taiidan and know what you're doing. Anyone else will get raped.
In some of these mods the Progs get a light granule, which is basically an OP ball of light that moves faster than any other ship and blows up any capship in one shot except a mothership.
Their units are shit though and dont have much variety. That's their weakness. Othewise they rely on Dreadnoughts and Sniper ships to beam you from far away. Break their defenses and you'll shit on them. Their units cant fight well up close.
Out of all the absurd images I own, I prize this above all others
Holy shit, it's like an oil tanker in space. Is it as big?
SC is a full singleplayer Wing Commander style game. And an MMO currently in alpha, with playable multiplayer dogfighting mode. You can walk around in any of your ships, float outside of them if you like, etc. It's a giant space sim. Expected final release next year.
Elite Dangerous as I understand it is an MMO focusing on procedural generation to make a galaxy of content. Where you can just go jump into a random system where a battle is taking place and help out or not and etc. It's currently in beta much closer to release than SC. Expected final release much closer to now.
Speaking of Elite, does anyone have experience with Elite 2 on dosbox? I lose control of the ship the moment i go in the options and enable the music. And i really need the music.
I'd say it's a bit smaller, but still quite impressive.
It runs kinda bad on DosBox. You could try glFrontier, it might run better, though I don't play Elite 2 much myself so I wouldn't know: http://tom.noflag.org.uk/glfrontier.html
And then there's Pioneer, an Elite 2 remake with very good graphics: https://youtu.be/1aVf-8qVdsg#t=126
Get it here: http://pioneerspacesim.net/
You also have an Elite remake, Oolite: http://www.oolite.org/
With plenty mods: http://wiki.alioth.net/index.php/OXP_List
Or you could play Elite 3: http://www.eliteforever.co.uk/files/ENCOUNTERS.rar
With an updated engine: http://www.frontierastro.co.uk/Hires/hiresffe.html
But don't bother too much with the old versions.
When will ED release? As far as I can tell their website only says 2014
How will it play? Will I be able to organize a group of bros, like 4-5, and cruise the galaxy looking for trade opportunities? Will we be able to explore for the sake of exploring, like will there be interesting things worth finding? I just wanna chill out in space with some friends
Is the ED 'expansion pass' really trustworthy? You have no idea how much content they are going to put out. They would have to put out another whole game's worth of content to justify the price tag of it.
You don't understand. Thea are not EVE. They are EXACTLY what you asked for, what you described.
You will be able to play Elite, absolutely alone if you want, the way you want it.
They planned it for the end of the yearn might coincide with Elite or Elite 2 anniversary, though that would mean a late september/early october release, and it's unlikely.
Otherwise there's everything you want: there's an MMO part, you can form groups with friends, cruise around, explore... we don't much about the game though, they're very secretive. We should know more once the beta is available at the end of the month.
>They would have to put out another whole game's worth of content to justify the price tag of it.
That's kinda what they want to do. Planned expansions are:
>Landing/ driving / prospecting on airless rocky planets, moons & asteroids
>Walking around interiors and combative boarding of other ships
>Combat and other interactions with other players and AIs in the internal areas of star ports
>Accessing richly detailed planetary surfaces
>Availability of giant ‘executive control’ ships to players
They're quite ambitious with it. It'll be worth the money for sure.
>It's a $15 sub tag, instanced space "dungeons", no trade, no ftl.
this is exactly my fear when I hear about some new space game
it's always a fucking MMO and that shit is always plagued by garbage like this
Well SC sells spaceships, so I guess the point is moot. ED is sold at the standard price games are sold, so it's not like it's a ripoff.
Plus countless people been saying for years they would be ready to pay a whole fucking lot for a new, good space sim. Well, here it is.
I'd love something like that but set in our solar system.
Like the mid-period in our space exploration and travel, were we've colonized the solar system up to the closest Kuiper Belt objects.
Just total mastery and human colonization of the solar system, with hundreds of moons settled, asteroids, planets, deep space colonies and stations, etc.
The big thing in the background as you play is that there is currently an orbital yard building a massive starship for the journey to Alpha Centauri - sorta like in Planetes but not bound for Jupiter, the Jovian moons are filled with human settlements, this ship is bound for another star.
But otherwise there would be pirates too and bandits and outlaws, especially out by Pluto.
I want to get my fill of space age escapeism, any suggestions?

>Aurora is at the very bottom of the list
Had me worried for a minute.
>noone ever mentions Starry Night
So what if it's not officially a game, i had fun with it as a kid.
This design has really been growing on me.
>high fantasy medieval era game
set on a massive space colony
Dumping spess folder
>he thinks heagomonia was worth playing
That game bored the everliving fuck out of me.
Now Master of Orion, THAT shit was challenging. You really gotta know what you're doing.
I'm shit at all GSGs though.
Is it not? Picked it up from the crazy GoG/Steam summer sale battle.
Bro it's hard as shit. I always die in 100 turns.
It was one guy viraling his wiki. Then SC shitposters went monkey see monkey do. Anyone who isn't fucking retarded is looking forward to what both offer. I'm just mad I could only afford to back SC at a level where I could play the alphas/betas. I'm just going to have to wait out Elite.
Has anyone been following the development of Galactic Civilizations 3? Is it any good?
>"ohey, it's star wars and some star-trek"
>one of the smallest ships is Enterprise
>The black super star destroyer is 17,5 km
Shit I really hope Elite Dangerous has some of this. Seriously, this is the kind of shit they love, I totally expect them to do stuff like this.
Their stations are already built on that, and there are outer rotating rings with cities and rivers, pic related.
You just can't fly inside, but shit, I hope there'll be bigger ones where you can, it's just too awesome.
Yes it runs on AP and its good to use as a new player. I get bored of all the X-series in a few hours though.
>play EVE instead
Here's what I want to know, and I haven't been able to find videos on this.
At it's current state, does Space Engineers allow you to build a ship in multiplayer, where the game is stable enough to allow your friend to walk around the ship while you pilot it?
For some reason I'm fascinated by the idea of space games letting me walk around on the ship free-form, and I know SE let's you create a ship of virtually any size or shape. Problem is, I don't know if it would lag horribly if you had someone try to walk around while doing business as usual.
First videogame outside of Mass Effect I ever see these glorious fucking space colonies in, that's awesome
Usually it's ringworlds or nothing in vidya
>tfw a Forerunner Fortress-class ship from Halo would be twice as long as the entire image
>tfw Onyx would be six million times as long as the entire image
Yet more proof Halo is the best series ever created.
If I get bored with both means I'm either out of my Sci-fi summer cycle and more into fantasy, or something else.
My gaming tastes move with the seasons, sir.
I love that fucking movie
>tfw no early space age games
>tfw the first Nexus chapter was waaay too short
>so many 40k ships
>no Emperor class
>no Apocalypse class
>labeling the battle barge as "Eternal Crusader"
>that's just the name of one battle barge
I read the main story summaries on Wikipedia about a month or so ago and some of the stuff sounds incredibly intriguing. Maybe I'll start it later tonight or in the morning then.
Fuck that entire series' ending.
I love Clarke's Third Law.
Someone told me to read them in the order they were written but should I read them in-universe chronologically?
LOTGH mod, greatest mod
This list is missing something
>Error: Your image contains an embedded file.
For fucks, sake.
>another Halo Homefront fan
my utmost african american compatriot, i want to hug you, i knew i wasn't the only one
Is anyone else afraid that the Earth might be destroyed any time by events far beyond understanding? I often have dreams that the sun just falls out of the sky and we're left to die on here, or we crash into some horrifying space object.
Then I calm myself by saying that the Earth has existed for billions of years and such a thing happening in my lifetime would be like winning (or losing) the lottery.
I don't care if it's not /v/ related, I was hoping this thread was going to go in a different direction.
I only recently found out that if you live away from civilisation you can see amazing things at night.
It sucks that I happen to live in an area where all I can see are a few white dots.
even lower chances than the lottery, bub. those guys have like 7 digits at most, in space, youve got like 15, more even, depending on what you fear. taking an astronomy and astrophysics course puts things into perspective
No, proper zombies. Infections, madness, the works.
I'm thinking L4D, Killing Floor, some survival elements of DayZ.
All in glorious multiplayer.
>final part of the game takes you to space
Why is this such a common trope?
I really liked the BSG mod for nexus. I didn't play the mod or the vanilla game that much really because there was a pretty fuckin steep learning curve from what I remember but it was pretty fun even if i didn;t know what i was doing really.
Heard no mention of this so far.
>inb4 early access
Its been progressing really well so far. Its shaping up to essentially be singleplayer EvE with spore style ship creation
>you will never explore the galaxy
Ah. I bought it during steam sale, just haven't gotten around to playing it yet. Looked at the ship designer and was like "TOO MUCH SHIT FOR ONE DAY, NOPE."
Will try again once I've cleared a bit more backlog.
>presuming that it's not entirely rational to be frightened of the fact that almost every facet of outer space is not only inhospitable to life-itself, but the fabric of space is actively hostile against it.
Cling to one's that love you, anon. Nothing else in the universe does.
>our own solar system doesnt count as the stars my life isnt star wars
Fuuuck you so much. I joined the air force for the sole purpose of getting into nasa, and I am going to explore the stars god damnit.
We're on the edge of an orwellian reality, Im doing my best to change that, but truly these times are shit, mostly because it's a limbo between the old society and a futuristic one, we have the worse of both and none of the advantages.
People like you are the kind that would never explore the stars even if you were born "in the right era"
You make as many excuses as possible to avoid accomplishing your dream.
I'm living mine, stay jelly.
>fill with water
>swing around in circles vertically
>water stays in bucket
Creates a force of gravity essentially, I think. I'm probably explaining it like a chimp though, ask /sci/.
centrifugal force occurs when an object is send away from the centre of rotation. in the case of ringworlds, the rotating ring causes objects to be forced to the outer edge. it creates an artificial gravity of sorts.
it's not gravity
swinging the bucket creates centripetal force, where the velocity of the water is directed towards the bottom of the bucket at all times
the direction of motion is at right angles to the centre of the circle that is described by the motion of the bucket
imagine if, near the top of the swing, the bucket suddenly vanished
the water would fly off diagonally upwards
therefore, the bucket pushes the water back down with an equal and opposite reaction to the velocity pushing it in the direction of motion
WHY WONT THEY REDO STARFOX INTO A SANDBOX SPACE SIM?
>implying you can escape Jews even in space
We don't have the technology for that either, and it's way less interesting, and perhaps similary dangerous if not more than exploring space.
And generally there is no interest from corporations and shit to explore the deep sea, while mineral extraction on asteroids could become a reaility in a few decades.
fill giant torus (donut) with air and point one of the poles toward the sun. only a torus would be capable, as without a form of containment, rings would just let everything out into the vacuum.
Man, Star Fox 2 was excellent. Never would have expected it to be so strategic.
there are at least several billion galaxies in the universe
once we figure out how to create any atom we need from base hydrogen, a galaxy sized starship will be possible definitely
Mass? There is more than enough to build it, however, controlling it and actually building it? It would take thousands light years to travel from one end to the other, so from that point of view i'd say it's impossible
Would you play a game based on Space Dandy where you comb the galaxy like your pompadour on the hunt for aliens?
>That fucking sense of scale.
For what game? For rebellion the latest version on mod db is working fine for me, remember to disable the cosmic anomalies if you have the DLC
I looked up a rough estimates online.
If you take NASA's estimate for the mass in the universe
And estimate for the sake of argument the ship has the density of water on average (considering it is made of both metal + air)
And take the volume of the milky way galaxy
You see all the mass in the entirety of the universe could make a ship 1/1000th the size of the milky way galaxy.
What games are these mods for? I love me some LOGH.
I still need to get through 110 episodes of the OVA. Jesus christ help me.
I want to see a game based on the largest ship ever created
there was some sort of catastrophe and communications are dead, everyone is cut off from each other and resources are scarce
you were in cryosleep, but you were woken up after being discovered several months after the catastrophe to assist a band of survivors in attempting to find an escape craft
there are wormholes all over the ship to travel effectively from one section to another, but they're working erratically, requiring you to find alternate routes or restore power to them to progress
the only foes are environmental hazards from the decaying ship and other bands of survivors who will kill you for your supplies
>no interest from corporations and shit to explore the deep sea
Quite contrary - deep sea mining is extremly interesting to corporations and a growing industry sector. Contrary to space it's also possible to be made profitable (space travel still suffers from the fuel efficiency issue).
If you are really up for adventure look to the oceans. It's more likely you find a paid job there than related to space travel/logistics.
Sins of solar empire games, for Rebellion the latest in the series the mod was updated a few months ago to just work with it, there should still be the original versions for the older games around though.
That's quite an interesting concept I would play a game like that add some of this >>252877872
and perhaps the ship itself could be simulating life on a planet in some sectors, so that people wouldn't even know they are on a ship
