I've thought of how to remove legging. Instead of killing the mech when the legs are destroyed, it should just make them limp and move slower. Combined with a VTOL that can lift damaged mechs back to base for repair, it wouldn't be seen as much of a scrubby tactic.
I want to like the MW4 series but I absolutely hate how much they dumbed down the weapons. Literally everything except missiles became fucking hitscans! AC20? Nope, it's just 1 fucking hitscan. In MW3 it was a badass burst cannon with every shot individually modeled. Why was 4 such a step back?
Still far better than MWO though, I must say. Still handles like a dream with HOTAS.

Sorta. Weapons mounted on the arms can turn pretty much instantly, while your torso catches up. Either way, it's unwieldy as all fuck, because they're on two separate reticules.
I wish it was like MW3 where they both shared the same reticule and torso weapons just wouldn't fire if your reticule was too far to the sides

Verdict Day is the alive game, and the mobility is less about constant boosting through the air and more about jumping off surfaces like mechanized ninjas.
It's also not as fast as For Answer so you don't have to worry about twitch reactions.

Titanfall is pretty damn good. Just bought the season pass and I'm loving the new maps. Gameplay on foot is great. Gameplay in the mechs are great. Its just great all around.
This, besides, balance is the least of my problems with MWO. I just don't like how it handles compared to the originals, how your view doesn't actually bob around with your mech, how turning your legs is instant instead of ramping up (preventing small adjustment), and how people have talked about already where using a joystick is shooting yourself in the foot.
Do they have other gamemodes than 1-life shit yet? You tend to die fast in MWO, so I don't like having to sit out the rest of the round, I wish it was like in MWLL where you just go back to base and have to buy a new mech with in-round currency

No, V. Did VD change the default mapping? if I remember, it had boost on LB and boost charge on X. Going to say again that you can remap controls however you want. Unless they took that out of VD too.

V and Verdict Day don't have framerate problems on my PS3. Definately start with 4/4A if you are new to the series, as they play similar to the previous games (though there are some big differences).
V is even more different and isn't a good first AC game. Only fans enjoy it.

In my opinion V was a bit more like the PSX/PS2 era titles, striking a balance between the quick boost hell that was ACFA and the slower paced old games.
I really wanted to like V, but the frame rate problems got me and the online died way too early. Really shitty for a game that was focused even more on multiplayer than previous ones. Even some of the main story missions are actually impossible to complete with a close ranged tank mech (can't reach some areas) and without other people to play with you're pretty much forced to play a medium weigh, bipedal, jack of all trades type mech yourself.
Pretty much. There's a good chance you'll enjoy playing the starter mech, and it's not that much grinding to get the monies for your first mech purchase. So unless you're autisitc and will try to get every mech and not pay, give it a shot.
Worst case you just uninstall the damn thing.

Armored Core is really hit and miss. Old AC were huge, impractical and generic, New ACs are too stylized and impracticable. Some of the MTs are good.
Personally I thought Heavy Gear made more sense as a setting than Battletech

Lore-wise Heavy Gear is kinda lame though. Battletech reminds me of 40K. There is no infrastructure or technological advancement, everyone is constantly fighting for power, and every side is an asshole.

Legging is disallowed on SJ's server, but everywhere else, it's generally ok. Sadly, SJ was the only server populated for a long time till it shut down.
Ramming Jets is pretty stupid though, suciding into someone's torso should be a kill since it makes sense, but there should be some sort of punishment attached to it like a rank demotion. Otherwise heavy and assault mechs just wind up useless because 30k C Bill Sullas will just keep ramming them.

What you're seeing in the arm is again and Votoms thing, it's a pressurized cylinder that allows the mech to punch with great force.
Many of these games came from a place of Japanese game developers being unable to make the licensed game they want so they ended up making a 'similar but intellectually distinct' approximation.
They couldn't make a Mobile Suit™ or an Armored Trooper™ game So they make a Assault Suit or Armored Core game.

Not necessarily. I suppose my view does place "mechs" closer to simulation than "mecha", though it needn't be an actual sim.
The distinction that used to be prevalent is that mechs are slow, lumbering vehicles that could be generalized as tanks with legs (similar to your pic), whereas mecha are typically characterized as being much more agile, and dexterous, like giant armored humans. Compare Gungriffon Blaze to Zone of the Enders. Saying they're the same because they both have giant robots is like equating Rainbow Six to Halo because they both have guns.

Not really, battletech is pretty standard as far as things like Macross, Gundam and Votoms go. Anything with a large Metaverse tends to get all the nitty-gritty details worked out in supplementary materials.

My point isn't "hurr every game is every genre because my autism says so". I just wanted to point out that some genres, namely rpgs, have really dumb names. It would be like having a specific film genre called "film with dialogue". It's such a common element. At least "action" games, for example, are mainly focused on hectic and intense mechanics, whereas the term rpg is so much more broad and doesn't refer to the central points of the genre.

Preferably no flight or jet boosting/rocket shoes or jumping around. Those are fine in their own way, but I'd like something like what mechwarrior is.

Because armored troopers walk slow as fuck, but can skate around nimbly, terrain permitting.
Then again it can be a fun break from what I usually do, which is to just tape a bunch of shotguns on top of a fast wheeled platform.
The front plate is a shield; it protects the generator, legs and cockpit from damage. The cockpit itself is located behind the legs and is supported by thin metal struts.
The stuff up there is a series of SMGs and shotguns... I think. They're mounted way up high to allow the mech to fire over obstacles.
Eh. That's skating the line there (pun), only for short bursts. For reference: Armored Core 5 is too fast, and 4/FA are obviously way out.
I want lumbering mecha. I'd like to be piloting a mech which is a tank on legs which shakes from side to side as it moves. Skates remove that.
