What is a comfy space game to play, /v/?

I played the x4 stuff, but the rush to expand in Sins and the like makes me feel not comfy. Strike Suit did the space thing pretty well by feeling like 3D, no-gravity space without any "up" or "down," but it's just an arena combat sim.

I want a game where I can go around space, explore, maybe customize a bit. I don't mind the battles, but I want that freedom and comfy feelings. Does anything come to mind?
>>
Freelancer is the only space game with exploration, play it.

Wat. You aim the mouse at a place you want to go, it's like in War Thunder for example.

There is a very basic cockpit view

On a similar but reluctant note, how is Alpha Centauri as a space game? I just bought it yesterday.

Does it feel like a space game, or does it feel like a Civ game? More importantly, is it comfy?

Space rangers, it's on Steam, but you should pirate it first to see if it's your thing.

I like it, but don't the ships cost real dosh? Is it worth playing right now, even without "open universe trials"?

I've been looking at kinetic void for a long time now, and I still can't decide if I should jump in or not. Have you tried it? You can customize your ship in it, right? Different parts doing different things? In it's current version, is it fun?
>>

Oh wow. For the purpose of this thread (and what I want to do tonight), that's not what I'm looking for at all, but even so, that game seems really neat. Definitely keeping it on my radar for later.

Not really, it's just a dogfighting arena currently so they can tweak and test the flight system.

expansions.

X3 is the original that came out in 2007. Terran Conflict is the first expansion that came out in whatever the fuck 2010? Albion Prelude was the final expansion that came out in 2013. They're stand alone so feel free to pick whatever you feel like.

X3 is a bit of a mess but loveable. Terran Conflict is a direct improvement in every single way. Albion Prelude is optimized and has lots of nice stuff but the campaign is a bit shorter.

When I say a bit I mean you'll only get like 300 hours out of AP and TC has an immense amount of shit. Then again there are mods that port the missions from Terran Conflict right to AP.

Is Reunion part of that same cluster of games? It says X3, but it's dated at 2005 so I assume it's somehow not related to Terran Conflict/Albion Prelude. These naming conventions are a little borked.

Elite: Dangerous is in beta, and Star Citizen is not even in alpha yet. Installing the DFM brings up giant letters saying THIS IS PRE-ALPHA, that and there's tons of material from the devs that the thrusters aren't working correctly yet because the IFCS is so ridiculously complex.

It'll probably be pretty cheap during the sales to just get the gold box and all 3.

If you're on the fence, just get Albion Prelude. Each of the games are stand alone (think STALKER, expansions to the main game and games in their own right but all built on the same engine and basically the same game).

The only reason you'd play X3: Reunion at this point is for the story, which is a typical space drama. Terran Conflict is fun in its own right and Albion Prelude is the pinnacle of the series.
>>
>>248789026

Yeah, I don't like it either that much but it fits with their Augmented Reality design that they choose.

I just hope they let us choose something more minimalistic in the future when it releases or atleast allow interface mods on the official servers.

Flight model is pretty shitty, I agree, hope they listen to the players before release.
The turret control thing is for mouse control only which some people said gives an advantage to players with a mouse because its point and click as compared to targeting with a stick.

Anyway they have a lot of work to do, hope they are successful as I love space games and I will be playing both E:D when it comes out (not giving $150 for beta, sorry), S:C and whatever else comes out inbetween.

Not turret so much as the actual weapons, but how the ship flies. SC's controls are based on pitch and yaw with little roll. This results in the ships very quickly spinning to face each other so they look like turrets in space. I assume capital ships will be different, but to me its a very unappealing way for fighters to act. Realistic perhaps, but boring.

So this is why I hate SC, you can't criticize it without the fanboys jumping down your shit. Chris Roberts has said he plans to put ads in the game, and the forum crowd practically cheered him on, he also failed the one time table he gave the community, and you know he's going to take twice as long getting this thing out the door because he has refused any new time-tables basically giving him another 5 years to make this damn game. Everyone acts like they're entirely cool with that when it's complete bullshit. He needs time tables so he can muster his people to get this project finished. It seemed for the longest time he wasn't really doing anything and he just now got arena commander out the gate after 2 damn years of talk. Any other game would be vaporware by now, and I suspect SC is going to be released in a really unfinished way that will make you want to play battlefield hardline.

I'm not sure what you mean by "battle simulator".

Basically you have several ships, can outfit them and micromanage them quite a bit (down to aux. power distribution), and fight through various scenarios.

There is some economy in that you only get certain amounts of modules and ability to change them out (only so much man-power, I guess).

Based on the customization and a couple missions where you do infact have to explore / find things I though it fit in with the OP's suggestion.

Master of Orion II is great, but i managed to outsmart it's AI on Impossible on my third game. Considering that i gave up the first game early after I found out where the important techs are. You could say that I played only twice.

No seriously, those fuckers were suiciding ships on my space bases while i had 0 combat ships. If they had sent all the ships at once instead of 10x 1-2 at a time i would have lost

Now, masters of Orion III is everything I was looking for after Star Ruler and Distant Worlds, although i only played 3 hours of it yesterday

Endless space was comfy but even though it's in space you don't much of the ships ect

No don't hype, be realistic.

It will be fun... but
Flying will be too arcade like or
there will be nothing to do or
random generation will be too similar across worlds or
there will be things to do, but they will be repetitive with no real rewards or
you will just want coop, but no way to meet up with friends

Well, it does...

Freelancer is possibly one of the most comfy space sims. The radio chatter and NPCs that actually go and do their job really add to the feeling of the game.

yeah, these trailers always make the look better than it's going to be. All that coordination will never happen either

>getting hyped in a post-Spore world
Absolutely not.

Been messing around with Star Conflict. Pretty fun if not a bit grindy when you get into the higher tiers. I never get hyped, but NMS looks pretty good, but it's a trailer. I'd play Star Citizen if it wasn't p2w and had a solid release date.
