A Pokemon MMo actually has the potential to be the only real good MMO. Because Pokemon itself is really just a single player MMO forcing you to interact with NPCs as if they are real people. Playing this quazi single player MMO experience for 70-80 hours until you reach the end game and actually get to talk to real people via the link up feature.

A real Pokemon MMO would simply replace those NPCs with real people. Real battles in the wild. Real people to trade items with. etc. But yes, Nintendo probably would screw it up and gimp all the features terribly. Just how dim are you? I was making obviously making an overt reference to the Pokemon meta. The point is that right now there is the single player, which is a journey with natural progression, and there is the meta, which is highly restricted technical arena. If I want to play the meta I can play the meta. If I want to use my favourite Pokemon, or fuck around with random ones, I can play single player. So even weak Pokemon can have a use.
If you make the "adventure" mode functionally equivalent to a meta where you walk around a bit before starting fights, then you might as well delete 90% of the fucking Pokemon in the game because they will never, EVER be useful. There's no point exploring every nook and cranny to find new and exciting Pokemon because the whole fucking game world is just smogon with grass and hills. Catching Pokemon you like and playing naturally gets you stomped, the only way to progress would be to look up which 30 Pokemon are uber and just stick with a handful of them throughout the whole game. It would sap every fucking drop of adventure and wonder that Pokemon has left.

The last one was Snake Eater 3D, which is over two years ago. And besides, Nintendo got 5 MGS games in the span of 27 years, all of which are non-canon. All the good (aka canon) games are on the only consoles that matters. Shame Nintendo won't get anything more than non-canon remakes or spinoffs, but at least you guys get Snake in a party fighter.
