This one is actually /u/ though, more so than Shinmai Shimai, or that Dead Brother thing by Kurushiro which I always see mentioned here. I wonder if /u/ always conveniently forgot that because of the raging hate boner we always have for Auri.
>>
>>2410323
>the raging hate boner we always have for Auri
Do we even? For most people it's a raging 'meh' boner. She's certainly capable of outright yuri, looking at some of the oneshots she's done, the fact that MnT was so underwhelming just makes it seem like a waste of effort.
>>
>>2410327
I will never stop be salty about MnT. All that wasted potential, and even more so because I see a little bit of myself in the MC and to see at the end she is still a fucking bum and is capable of making decisions which matter infuriated me so much.
>>
>>2410336

>>
>>2410182
All that said and done, Shinmai Shimai is actually far more likely to get an anime adaptation than YagaKimi. It just seems like the type of manga which will get the most sale boost from an anime, a comfy food anime and such.

I really want an anime for YagaKimi but seriously it's just too niche.

>>
>>2410465
The one and only yuri relationship I've ever disliked is from Aki Sora. The relationship between Kana and Nami was dumb and by that point they both had so much sex with the MC I didn't care anymore if they got together. It was a disgusting portrayal of lesbians and in the context of the story was dumb and forced. Only time where I ever hated a yuri pairing in my life.

Oh, that. Jesus, Girlfriends is such a nice little self contained story, the scene where Mari confesses to Akko in the Karaoke booth, but starts to drop her spaghetti until Akko kisses her is so incredibly heartwarming. And I can't order it in the same store I ordered Citrus because it's so old, rip.

Also, I thought Akko became super cute as that story went on.

>>
Welp, that's Kannazuki no Miko finished, think 12 episodes was too short for the story they wanted to tell, Chikane's 'master' plan was too quick and they didn't develop the relationship between Himeko and Chikane enough so for 10 or so episodes we have Himeko falling in love with Souma and then practiclaly right at the end Himeko realises she loves Chikane 'just as much'. However...in a bubble, those last two episodes were great, I felt really bad when Himeko started to break down in the final moments with Chikane, asking why they can't stay together.

It's a fucking crime how miserably it failed to live up to either the Yuri, Mecha or Magical Girl tags though.

>>
>>2410587
At least they portray it in a bad light in NTR, in the Feelings We all Must Endure there's something really wrong going on and yet it seems no one minds it and treat like it's normal
>>
>>2410700
(cont.) Honestly if the main pair had broken up I'd actually like the manga, it'd have shown the MC is not a pushover and the slut would have gotten what she deserved, instead I ended up hating both of them
>>
>>2410703

Isn't it a bit unfair to hate that kind of character? (the pushover)
>>
>>2410705
If the pushover gets character development and becomes a better person I don't think so, but in this case she ended worse than what she started as
>>
Why is there a really severe lack of asexual male characters in yuri manga and anime? I think it's a better choice than some random guy who fucks the MC for drama, fujo homos, or a perverted fag who gets cucked. It would work well because they still can cause some small drama out of jealously or misunderstanding, yet not threatening for the yuri romance itself.

The only character I can think of is Tomoki in Watamote, if that counts as yuri.
>>

The male counterpart is presumably about onsen-themed ninjas with all that implies.

The female counterpart is about female onsen spirits becoming Idols to make Onsen popular again. Think Love Live but replace school with Hot Springs.

Damn, you got me.
>>
>>2411697
It would be a useful term if people didn't misuse it to refer to teasing.
>>
>>2411706
It's really not, it's just uninformative bitching. If you're going to talk about the canon level of yuri content, then do that.
>>
>>2411706

How is that not yuri bait?
>>
>>2411718
I assume it's that anon who vehemently asserts that yuribait should only be referred to as such if there is hetero content. They're convinced the "bait" can only refer to "bait & switch", and therefore if there is no "switch" then it's not bait. Which is bollocks.
>>
>>2411718
It's divined through intentions and whether there's actual follow through/up or not. Unfortunately it, as a subject, happens when things are in the middle of being done, so it becomes more of an attempt to infer how things will play out. If more people used learned from experiences that burnt them and remembered gratuitous examples of actual bait they'd be able to spot it better but that also means being able to infer actual subtext. It becomes an issue then of how experienced the viewer is in inferring and literary/story knowledge, until telltale signs from the content creators become overt. Its very much a process, discerning between teasing/subtext building through teasing and actual bait, that isn't readily confirmed until it ends. Of course by then you have hindsight brigade acting as if they knew all along despite them most likely dropping it within the first quarter because they couldn't see build up, they weren't particularly invested, or some other subjective use they might use to back decrying something they gave up on.
>>
>>2411728
>divined through intentions
This is the biggest problem with the term, because it's almost always people just making assumptions about authorial intent.
>>
>>2411725
That anon is not the only one who thinks so, and it IS the mainstream usage of the term yuribait.

"Yuribait" originated from yurihaters who use it to taunt yurifags. Acussing yurifags of being "delusional" for interpreting a subtext ship as gay. This is the most important reason why "yuribait" had always had a negative connotation, equals to "there's no gay, you've been trolled by the author" (a.k.a. bait-and-switch) or "it's just friendship, take your goggles off."

Nanoha and Madoka are the two most prominent franchises accused of being yuribait by yurihaters, and yurifags disagree with that sentiment, because it's plausible to interpret HomuMado and NanoFate as gay, as intentional subtext. They are thus not yuribait, but ambiguous works up for interpretation.

Know the history behind the language, understand the connotation. Stop using it wrongly just because of your newfaggotry. It's like those uneducated creationists who bark "but evolution is JUST a theory" without knowing what "theory" means in scientific language.
>>
>>2411777
What are you talking about? It's adapted from queerbaiting.
>>
>>2411777
>it IS the mainstream usage of the term yuribait.
It's not though. It's commonly used to refer to anything that doesn't "deliver", whatever one's definition of that may be. "Bait" just refers to the fact that it's supposedly intended to lure in yuri fans.
>>
>>2411812
>>2411824
"Queerbaiting" and "doesn't deliver" both carry negative connotation, i.e. you're expecting something but it turns out to be something else. If you watch a show and knowing full well it won't have text lesbians, then it's not "yuribait" unless it turned into hetshit.

Any show that intentionally put yuri subtext in there (Izetta, FlipFlap, New Game, Symphogear, etc) and remain plausible to interpret yuri are thus not yuribait. Shows like Hibikek is yuribait.

>>2411845
It's doing the first one just fine. You also can't really win anything. Sure anon was wrong about etymological roots but that doesn't prevent his post from having good points.
It'll shit it up because newfags don't lurk and never will and then ask inane questions they could easily pick up if they did. Sage needs to make a come back though so this shit doesn't get placed front and centered because an idiot adds nothing to it.

Mouretsu Pirates was pretty cool, but not as gay as I had hoped it would be, based on the OP (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XINutEdZVcg).

I would have liked more action or yuri or dark, but at the same time I feel like adding too much of those might have hurt the overall charm of the series, with it's strengths being the upbeat tone and verisimilitude of the setting.

It did still have a maintext side couple who kiss on screen so that was something. And Kato and Chiaki seem like might be very slowly be becoming a thing, but the series ends before it gets there.

Anyone know if it is any gayer in the novel/manga?

Not yuri (wait for it) but Munou na Nana is a reminder that I should never ever look at comments and user opinions. The story is about a girl who kills the supposed male 'MC' in the first chapter and all the people are extremely angry that this adorable and well written girl 'replaced' the annoying generic retard boy.

No wonder there is so little yuri when the average stupid person is so desperately opposed to competent and well written female MCs and instead wants generic self insert garbage male MC #297464. It truly makes me sad.

I guess they had to compensate live movement capturing with graphics. I believe the seiyuu's had to dance around for the MV, saw on twitter somewhere. I'd rather they animate it like the Love Live MVs than this, but maybe they were low on budget? I think the whole point was that the seiyuus themselves have a part in this whole thing so they decided to go for motion capture as opposed to pure animation.

I don't know what kind of budget they are working with but we've grown up in a world where blockbuster budgets can buy the best and nearly photorealistic characters from motion capture technology.

Yes, Akimoto's project does not have the budget of LOTR or King Kong but if the best can buy you that then surely a more thrillshift budget can still buy you something decent or at the very least something that doesn't look like it was made by MMD.

I do not watch the anime but I have read the manga till 40 or so chapters in. There is a confirmed villain yuri couple further in but even though it is a central element of the biggest plot so far it is, how do I say it, kinda very short and 'undeveloped'? Girl loves other girl (unrequited), gambles with protag, they both offer what is most valuable to them, to her it is the love. Afterwards she gets a hug from her crush and I can't remember, maybe a quick kiss? And that's the extent of all yuri.

Meanwhile it has this token self insert loser boy following around to the bitter end. And he even has a crush on the protag girl even thoug he himself admits he has no clue why protag girl keeps hanging out with him.

The boy reminds me of Bakuretsu Tenshi. There too the story starts with a boy who is supposed to be the "gateway" normal guy for the viewer to get into it. Except that Bakuretsu Tenshi was much more yuri, had more likeable characters and the protagonists unfortunately did not have plot armor. I have no idea why this is even a thing.

I wish I hadn't waited this long to check out Princess Principal.

If I had just seen that it was the studio that did FlipFlap, or that it was original, or that Yuki Kajiura was doing the music, or the GITS director and premise of steampunk spies, I would have checked it out day 1 even without yuri. And it has yuri.

If any of that interests you then check it out, it's pretty cool.
>>
>>2412897
so not yuri.
thanks anon, sounded like a pretty boring premise so wasn't gonna bother unless it was gay.
>>
>>2412904
Yeah there's a reason why I haven't even tried the anime. With the manga it is neat that you can just rush through and skip the boring parts. However, it is not the premise that is bad. What is done with it is bad. I am all about characters and I did not like a single one of them. It just turned into escalating gambling, where more and more and more is put on the line, the game rules are explained, then TWIST the protag girl has figured out how the opponent cheats or some other trick which needs lots of explaining and then she wins and even her opponents are spared and do not have to die or even worse. It is still entertaining at times and some side characters get interesting and important roles later on, which I like.

So yeah, if you can't handle this kind of sillyness, don't bother because there is enough good stuff out there.

>>2412902
I am glad you enjoy it. There's even a thread for it: >>2402423

The only thing of your list that I like is >original. I wish there were more original anime or while based on other material, completely changed. They turn out to be the best.
>>
>>2412914
Well its less that it sounds bad or boring, and more it sounds like literally every highschool based shounen manga ever made.

Might try it just for a competent female MC which is rare in shounen manga.
>>
>>2412918
Once a chapter is 80% explanations and accessory talk it kinda gets boring. Also, it is I'd say 90% female 10% male. The first ~40 chapters could be considered season 1, the student council, which still has a male. In the second 'season' when new baddies arrive, they are 100% female only and the self insert token is the only guy remaining.

Sorry, I am kinda all over the place with my posts. I am tired.

Anyway, I absolutely love competent MCs. In my personal experience there are a lot more competent female MCs because male MCs are often not actually competent but wish fulfillment. If you are looking for something specific maybe I can rec you something.

Well its /u/ so i don't want to get too carried away.
I just like when you have good female MCs who stand up there with both men and women and compete competently at it.

For example ezra in fairytail competes with the strongest characters of the series and actively gets to show off and be awesome. As opposed to the shaman king where the girl is super strong but gets sidelined because "men are fighting". murcielago might be a good example of things I look for, but its a bit on the more edgy side of things.

I just like seeing girl MCs actually get shown to be strong in a shounen esque environment. Things like gup are nice too, but i'd of preferred a coed cast.

Yuri is definitely better and I do prefer it in those things as well. But arguments aside I like when my yuri takes place in thatish type environment.

you'll have to excuse me as well.
I'm a bit out of it atm.
>>
>>2412924
>yuri shonen with female MC but mixed cast
You are asking for the impossible.

I'd love to say Oban Star-Racers but unfortunately that turned out to be het, the only problem in an otherwise great series. I'd love to say Soukou no Strain because none of the het gets anywhere, it has an openly lesbian side character and a yuri-esque ending. But while the main girl is great, she carries an otherwise trashy series which is not really shonen. I don't know. Kill la Kill and Ga-Rei: Zero don't fit either. Then there's Air Master, very trashy and you need some intense yuri goggles for that one. I could go on but the more I list the further I go down the abyss.

Then of course if you broaden it to side characters there are many. However you are far away from any yuri by that point.
>>
>>2412938
There is always Gamma.
>>
>>2412938
Honestly for this for me yuri is less of a sticking point which is why i might try kakegurui. Its just a very nice side bonus.
There have been a few yuri ones that do fit the ticket though, they usually get canceled though.
other than murcielago I can think of mahou shoujos(covered in them, but might not be entirely shounen), saki is pushing it in the coed department, but is technically a mixed cast.
there was that one vocaloid inspired anime that aired awhile back with the MC that was a lesbian, but i don't know if it ended yuri since it was throwing up some red flags. I dropped it due to boredom though.
akuma no riddle technically was a mixed cast, but once again pushing it pretty hard there.

I see them pop up periodically, most get cancled or are pretty short though, thats why i kinda went for the hopeful request attempt.

If Saki fits your criteria then why not give Kaleido Star a try? One of the very best products of entertainment that exist, even far beyond anime, it is about never giving up, hard work, overcoming terrible odds, creating your own path and pushing your talents to the limit. While not explicitly yuri, it has lots of girl interaction. And while several men are fond of the main girl, she stays completely het free and the series is certified safe to watch.

The payoff is huge, it has one of the best endings I have ever seen and it is full of great characters. If you don't have shit taste you will love it.

>For example ezra in fairytail competes with the strongest characters of the series and actively gets to show off and be awesome.

Erza is fake strong, she was made damsel in distress at least twice, despite of how strong she's supposed to be, and never did nothing relevant at the point I read it. I did drop it after some 100 chapters, so if you says she gets better, I can only trust you.

As for shounen with competent female, I'm not a shounen fun, but can think of two: Noragami and FMA. Gintama on some arcs fit. None of them has yuri, though.

Watched first 4 episodes of Kakegurui due to the post asking, was already planning on it but decided to push it up my queue a bit just to see if I could answer. Next three eps not available how I want them yet, or I would have watched them. >>2412897 already did a good job but thought I'd toss my two cents in. Adaptations can be different, after all.

My /u/ relevant impressions so far:

Main character is the gambler chick, it seems the dude tags along for no purpose other than to be a sane average person's viewpoint, like onee-san said. Reminds me of Raki from Claymore, but even less relevant or interesting.

Most of the cast is female thus far (but still a few prominent males) and they all seem to be incredibly turned on by humiliating and dominating basically anyone, but due to the gender split it seems it will tend to be females dominating females. If you dig that, then I guess that's kind of yuri in a way?

Seems like the student council president is probably gay, if the opening is anything to go by. But the promotional artwork and OP has loads of gay looking stuff in it and I can't tell if that hints at future gay or is there just because a third of the show is fanservice. For example, it seems to start by showing the order in which opposing characters are revealed and the second rival is kissing the main girl's feet rather provocatively, despite no sexual tension during their match beyond the typical orgasm faces everyone gets when they humiliate someone, and she seemed to stop being relevant after that match. Don't know if that changes down the line. OP here if you want to see it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4pcGJKm2rQU

So pointless male tagging along, uncertain possibility of future yuri, no shame in lewd stuff of either yuri or het, and constant domination. I'd compare it to No Game No Life. It's okay. So far my highest hope is that a girl will make a perverted bet with the main girl and win.

That was longer than I wanted it to be.

In the language of flowers, white lilies represent purity.
As to why lilies, it seems that at some point of history since BL was "bara" ("rose", bara being a subgenre of yaoi featuring muscly hairy dudes) the fandom agreed that GL should be "yuri". That's history as I understand it, it could be wrong.

Just wait until you get to episode 7. Midari orgasms all over the table after Jumeko wins their game and expresses her profound disgust at Midori's very existence. Jumeko so utterly mentally dominates Midori that Midori pledges her soul to Jumeko and basically declares her to be her goddess while drooling everywhere. Good stuff. Besides that, Jumeko and Mary have some nice scenes together, and the student council president is definitely gay for the secretary.

Suzui is little more than the audience surrogate. At least Raki got buff after the time skip and learned to hold his own.

I think it's pretty interesting that when it was standalone it felt like it ended on a hopeful note, but with the tank placement it turns quite melancholy.

Sorry if I hurt your frail sensibility, I'm just tired of people taking meaningless english titles out of their ass. I don't care if you or someone else created it or even if it's on the official cover, even if it is it's nothing but a subtitle. The title of a series is only one and there is no need and no reason to create another one, it only makes things more complicated, like in this case. And 90% of the time they don't even have nothing to do with the real title like "eventually I will become yours" or your "welcome to last wednesday", they only create confusion.
And there is no need to use kanji, you can just write in romaji so everyone can read and can do their researches. The same goes for Vampire-chan ga neratteru that fortunately I already knew, because "vampire is aiming" is another research that brings to nothing, I just tried.
>>
>>2413210
If the original Japanese cover had an English title alongside with the Japanese title, I see no reason why the English title cannot be used.
>>
>>2413210
Just learn to ask favors instead of being a dick about it.

Aside from that. titles like "Welcome to Last Wednesday" are not just subtitles. Objecting to someone using it is simply wrong. Series do not have just one title. Like Aposimz is the correct English title of 人形の国.
>>
>>2413215
>>2413219
d/a; using it for English scanslation is debatable, using when discussing an untranslated manga is dumb because that "title" is generally not referenced anywhere except within images (sometimes it isn't even added until the tank). Which means nobody else is going to know what you're talking about unless they've already read the manga. Even if they have seen, say, the artist talking about it on twitter or a magazine advertisement for it.
>>
>>2413266
I firmly disagree with anyone who thinks it's dumb to use these English titles that the creators have officially come up with, and it's by being used that people will come to know what they mean and that they end up in search results.

I do realize that they're not a great search term when a manga is obscure and not talked about in English, but I was just using titles off the top of my head when writing a post rather than doing it for the sake of search terms and checking them (but it's funny how Google gives me better results, including a hit for "Vampire is Aiming"). If someone asked me for the Japanese titles I would have been happy to give them, but I'm not going to help someone who doesn't understand how to ask for help.

It isn't written anywhere. Not in the official page of the series, nor in the author's twitter/pixiv, it's only drawn on the pages. Nobody is using it. No wonder google couldn't find anything. The one and only title is "Suiyoubi no yoru ni wa kyuuketsuki to shop wo" that doesn't nealy mean "welcome to last wednesday". You're only creating confusion and dividing an already minuscole fandom.

>>2413294
>2DK
Do you mean "2DK,Gpen,Alarm clock"? Because that's the "official romaji title".

I've never seen anyone using "love bullet" because "it's a total another title written small under the real title and it's in english". What about "the J.K. of the vampirelady"? Why didn't you use "Ms. vampire who lives in my neighborhood." and "God of the moon high school"? And "Room for two persons"? And I could go on with a shitton of other examples but wouldn't be from yuri series and you already don't know what half of those "titles" refer to because those are just small subtitles nobody cares about. And this is a ridiculous talk I don't intend to drag on anymore.

>The one and only title
You're just persisting in being wrong.

I have not ever argued in favor of only using the full English alphabet titles, I'm just saying it's wrong to object to their use and I will not stop using them. I'm also in favor of shortening and using the shortest valid option.

Somewhere you are still more likely to have my help if you manage not to be an idiot about asking for it.

>The protagonist of the story, Filena, is the surviving princess of a kingdom called Filosena, which is wiped out by the Empire in the opening moments of the story. Raised as a boy, Filena fights as a Battler, using her wits and speed to compensate for her small stature and lack of strength. With the help of friends, including her "wife" Lila - another slave - Filena must outwit and outlast her enemies in order to reclaim her destiny and her throne.
6 episode OVA of that one old thing got subbed.

I would say that asking if something is worth watching for the yuri is a good use of the general.
It's not exactly recomendation, and who wants to invest 23 episodes to a couple when it ends with last-episode-surprise-arranged marriage?
