As much as it'd probably be funny to imagine Michael Chu dying inside while the higher ups force him to write the thing the fanbase actually likes, everything that involves actual writing from Overwatch has been shit at best, where they think shoveling bad things and trauma in a characters' plate is an interesting development/backstory and have done fuck-all with the setting.

At this point I'm more content with the sort of ethereal "here are two characters you know about, in a video game you put a few hours in, doing gay stuff, cuddling or whatever."

Emily was never as fulfilling as Amelie. I would've rather had more comics of Widowmaker and Tracer having violent showdowns and antagonistic exchanges than Tracer being gay with her own Moneypenny at home while she goes off shooting Korean teenagers in Egypt, or Pharah and Mercy being gay or whatever.

We've talked to death about how inconsistent they've been with Widowmaker, how every aspect of what makes her Widowmaker, is retooled and retconned as needed for whatever is going on, whether it be for a goofy in-game verbal exchange or some going-ons in a comic.

Imagine Tracer tracking Widowmaker in France, as she's leaving her husband's grave. Tracer can't comprehend how nonchalant Widow can be about committing heinous acts like assassinating a religious leader. Now imagine, Tracer has to reconcile her perception of Widowmaker, what she may or may not know about Amelie, and her witnessing a more human and vulnerable Widowmaker, and how she proceeds with this. The yuri fryers are revved up. Nothing they make will live up to what you're imagining.

It's the uncanny valley of yuri. Things are better when you have gaps to work with, like Touhou. Sure, it means we get lots of Pharah/Mercy working at Starbucks and singing Bruno Mars songs because your average tumblr girl won't know any classic rock songs outside of Journey, but you gotta take the bitter with the sweet.

I mean, if you break it down like that, of course it sounds like autism powers.

It's like that famous SF3 video, Daigo vs Justin Wong. Yes, the absolute precision needed for that comeback sounds insane when you deconstruct it to frame-by-frame fundamentals, but it's refining it into subconscious, instinctual maneuvers that's where it counts.

Being able to access different routes or cover territory is great, but keeping it in mind as a fundamental part of the arsenal to run down equally mobile entities like Scouts or Demos in the heat of a skirmish is where rocket jump practice will really shine.

She already has a lot of mythological figures in play. Zenyatta has Ra, but her default stuff is basically Horus, the raptor headed god who much like Ra manifested or bequeathed the divine authority of the pharaoh, and was also the god of the sky, war, overcoming great evil, and other fun activities.

Anubis is the obvious one. Much like the valkyrie, he is often portrayed as a psychopomp, appropriate for an offense hero, and also a guardian of tombs.

And last but not least, the Thunderbird, a dispenser of justice, that prevents evil from overrunning the land and protects humanity, depending on which indigenous American myth you're into.

I'm not sure about any specific historical figures, and what other Egyptian gods of note can be used for Pharah. Portraying Pharah in Hellenistic attire or as a GrecoRoman goddess to accompany Mercy is a popular topic recently. I'd love a Hoplite or Centurion-themed power armor, personally.

Random thoughts while working earlier:

-There was talks on reddit about the nature of Amelie's conditioning into becoming WM, and that it seems like her old personality peaks through every so often (vising her late husband's grave), and that the process to condition wasn't perfect. Personally, I like to think that whenever the WM mask slips or cracks, she has to get mandatory recondition to reapply the mask, but after Doomfist's and his cohort's hostile takeover of Talon, they killed the ones responsible for keeping her in check. Pure headcanon on my part, I know.

-Tracer would not make for a good sub (or would make for a terrific one, depending on who you ask), cause she'd want to be punished for failing to save Mondatta, and she wouldn't shut up about it.

Event's been out for like a week. If twitter can yield 40 fucking pictures of Pharah in a soccer uniform dry humping Nike!Mercy we should be able to find summer Widow, relaxing by the pool, being doted on by maid Tracer. I kinda toyed with the idea of a time-controlling support. Holding Shift produces a small aura that speeds up ability cooldowns for everyone who's standing in it and drains the character's power charge, E resets cooldowns for one teammate, ultimate decreases cooldowns by 90% in a large area (about the size of Centaur McHorselady's ultimate) for six seconds. The assumption is that for Widow "following orders = feels good". I'm saying that the "feel good/alive" comes from the blood rush she gets in her normally numb body when going on a mission, thus her actually enjoying going on her missions. Not because Talon's conditioning told her thats how she is supposed to feel but because she likes to feel blood rush. Like she also screams "I feel ALIVE" when Ana pumps her body with nanoboost.

Piecing together all the info we have it looks like the "supressed, broken and reprogrammed" is either irrelevant anymore just as their initial claims that she has no emotions, or only reffering to Amelie at the very beginning of Talon before she killed Gerard.
It's pretty clear her ego is not so supressed anymore with how she, again, visits her husband's grave and now we learned she uses her actual maiden name and decided to buy the home of her ancestors. That sounds to be pretty at odds with her allegedly being reborn as an assassin with no connection to her previous life.
It seems like at this point she is just a regular Talon operative that they obviously trust enough to be on her own. You even see it from how Doomfist talks to her, praising her effectiveness and saying how Talon could use more people like her, that's not how you talk to a subordinate who has no autonomy.
