It wasn't even a big uncharacteristic thing, either. It was the first time they'd ever got to hang out without the spectre of Mako or world war (equally terrible) hanging over them. After the brief glimpse of their chemistry at the race track in season one, it felt natural to see them getting on so well when Mako wasn't around.

Gonna be a bunch of LoK/Avatar presentations at SDCC, too. So at least Nick is bothering to promote it somewhat.

From what I've seen of the previews, the comic is definitely better than the awful AtLA ones.

Looking at the comic here versus a cap from the show, its seems that the color that used to be the highlighted portion of Korra's hair is now being used to show the darkest part of her hair that's in shadow.

The editor is Dave Marshall, and the assistant Editor is Rachel Roberts. If you ever watch the Diversity & Comics youtube channel, you'll see the male editor/female assistant editor is an all too common theme in comics. The male editor tends to do fuck all, while leaving an unqualified diversity hire young woman to do all the work, and badly.

But boy, am I glad we got an Asian lesbian to do the artwork. That's much more important than the quality she produces. Annoyingly, you can see from the OP image that she's capable of better than she produces for 90% of the comic. Same with the poster she released as SDCC last year.
I still prefer her to Britney Williams' style, who would have made LoK look like Teen Titans, but at least Williams had consistent line-work.

It's frustrating that we appear to have gotten a finely-written comic that blows the Gene Yang stuff out of the water, only to have gone backwards in the art.

Srsly. though, apparently, Koh only got the job in Spring 2016 and had it finished by Summer 2016. Nick being Nick then fucked around for another year.

Koh admitted that Bryan was very critical of a lot of her art, and made her do redrafts of a bunch of it. I suspect she wasn't his first choice.

I'm still going to buy it. I knew when I made the bingo card that we'd end up wishing Bryan drew it.

I'd say that's likely. For the poster; she probably tried to make it look more like the show's style. But for an eighty page comic, if you're not going to be using your own style, then why were you hired in the first place?

I like her style, but it it doesn't transfer as well to the AtLA universe as well as Gurihiru's. Even then, Gurihiru's art was very bland for the first few volumes. It was only when we got to the tragically poorly written "the Search" that Guruhiru really nailed down their Avatar style.

Seeing these two images right beside ne another, I think I've figured out what's missing from the comics: the backdrops. The show had some of the most stunning background paintings I've ever seen. They put Avatar's to shame. But you can't have a crazily detailed, dedicated painting for the background of every comic panel.

I feel like this is less of an issue in comics. Barring huge design changes like turning an athletic character into an obese one, seeing the characters drawn in different styles makes comics interesting to me. I prefer it if they don't try to perfectly emulate the show's style.

That's why I expected that who was picked to make the comics, we'd still be disappointed that it wasn't Bryan.
As is, the comic looks fine. It'll look a lot better when holding it, instead of zooming in on grainy, 500pixel, leaked or watermarked scans.

Bryan said he'd review the drafts and flow in an unofficial capacity. From Irene Koh's own words, he was apparently very tough on her.

But if he had wanted to look just like the show; he should have done it himself. I guess I don't blame him. This was all confirmed back in 2015, and he was burnt out on the Avatar universe.

I'm talking spine-breaking, "look viewer as I bend over, somehow shoving both my giant butt and ballooning breasts right at your face!" Or "check out my manly abs, all 16 of them, clearly outlined through my bullet stopping kevlar armor!"

Remember, most of what we're seeing are from low res previews or grainy leaks resized to fit tumblr dimensions.

Ditto. I enjoyed the world of the series, and I'm an inveterate Korrafag. I'll take more if I can get it.

There's nothing to suggest it will. Book Two was a disaster where they tried to give us half a dozen different monumental story threads. The only thing that landed was Tenzin and his siblings getting over their issues.
The comic's story is much smaller scale.

>Rehousing the displaced RC citizens in the face of the destruction and Raiko being a shit

There's something about Bolin wanting to prove himself as a cop, but a tacked on Bolin sideplot in a LoK story has been law since 2013.

As for makorra - I sadly used to ship them a tiny little bit when they felt on. Mako showed his ugly face way too soon for me to fall hard for them. Ever since then I was in between korrasami and Korra Alone. Book 2 was a disaster and I've lost my hope for a good ending so I read pleasantly surprised with book 3 and korrasami build up there. Too bad this ship isn't nearly as popular as clexa. I'm such a fanfiction whore... Maybe comics will wake some great authors up and they deliver again.

There's been a lot of fan theory about that idea. Some suggest it would have been a way to give Asami more to do, but I disagree. She absolutely had a great story, but Book One was focused to a deranged degree on Mako. So when she should have been recovering from turning on Hiroshi, instead we only got to see what she thought in response to Mako pawing and eye-fucking Korra in front of her. From the time Asami electrocutes Hiroshi, we got zero damn discussion of how she felt abut it until the group split up for the final battle.

I'm guessing the URN was a Republic is name only for quite some time. There was clearly an upper class (FN colonists) and a working class (EK natives) that didn't disappear when Aang surrendered the land to Zuko.

I wish I could link it to you but it looks like they deleted the vid. It was in english. Tokuga is an interesting character and I wonder if he had any connections to Amon, Korra is a hug giver (as always), she's socially awkward (seriously, the moment she had to go and inspire people was hilarious), Kya is a sweetheart, Raiko is an ass. I don't want to spoil the story so I'm not saying anything else. But it's something I want to know more about right now and I can't wait for TW2.
