To be fair Highway Blossoms is a kinetic novel and the writer's first released project, and it shows. I think he started in The Human Reignition Project earlier but is still working on it because it's a full-length VN.

Hopefully these devs will continue honing their craft and eventually make something more memorable.

Kindred Spirits came in before Highway Blossoms though and the dev was still convinced. Also, even without factoring Kindred Spirits, there's still Flowers, Nights of Azure, Life is Strange, Valkyrie Drive and (in terms of player count) Sakura Dungeon off the top of my head.

It was certainly enjoyable, but I'm not sure how anyone could have thought it was going to be the greatest Yuri game of 2016 with or without Kindred Spirits.

The premise isn't catchy enough for big studios and Kickstarter doesn't really work if you're both a noname developer and trying to start a new IP, so most KS devs stick to VNs and similar easy-to-make genres. Fear Effect has an advantage of being one of those nostalgia trip games, which helps immensely. Although I'm not sure whether non-yurifags are going to be interested in it. Hopefully, gameplay is going to be fun enough to cover for that.

Katahane is not a pure yurige, and that's fine. It's a slice of life adventure mixed with historical political thriller in the middle. The way Shirohane and Kurohane were rather crudely glued together indeed invites some valid criticism, but, well, I liked both, still one of my favorite VNs. Can't deny that J-MENT's storytelling has its quirks and is very hacky at times (and jeez those non-endings in almost every game of his), but for me it's worth it for the settings and characters, the writing itself is solid, too.

Not sure if anyone is interested (you should though, it's one of the gayest fighters out there) but Arcana Heart 3 Love Max Six Stars Steam port got successfully funded on Kickstarter. Six Stars adds pic related and she gets rescued by Petra which is pretty cute since Petra had no prominent ship option until now and had to piggyback in between Elsa and Clarice.

Also the stretch goal for Parace, the final boss of previous games, got reached and she'll be a playable Arcana. By the looks of it they might even reach the first new playable character - Shark Girl and her story will be that she was created by Parace who will also serve as her default Arcana.
