Quartet and Shinbo aside, they only have so many animators and other normal crew members to go around.

They're honestly dropping the ball on this. I remember back in like 2008-09 before Haruhi got a second season where people were discussing the logistics of just sitting on your hands when you have a moneymaker of a series, and that regardless of how popular it was in its heyday if you don't follow up as soon as feasible you're going to lose all of that momentum. And that was only two-three years after it was a thing. Sure, KyoAni went even more pants-on-head retarded than just sitting on the series for as long as they did, I still think the basic principle applies to what's happening with Madoka. A concept movie and mobage aren't going to keep the momentum flowing.

I'm legitimately getting worried they've basically dropped it and are just using it for franchising and getting some bonus dosh that way. I don't want this to be the truth, but after almost four years of nothing it's getting hard to hold on.

Even if there's never a continuation, Rebellion was in a way conclusive.

Kinda, yeah. About as conclusive as if they had taken episode 10 and turned it into a single anime. You would know the problem, and know Homu is trying to fix it, but you don't know the result or how it will be reached. Like a "And so the hero of the story did a big deed and kept trying to reach their goals" ending, the kind of thing that would happen when you adapt a chunk of an ongoing manga.

We know the new world isn't sustainable and Homu's already terrible mental state is declining even further, so obviously a new conclusion must be reached eventually. And all the pieces are set to start something new, another rebellion. We just don't know when or how it will come about.

A shame that in order for the sequel to happen, Homura must fail deeply and horribly yet again. I wonder how long the world will last? Maybe as many years as it takes for the sequel to come out. Maybe she's struggling to keep the cracks in her world from getting out of control as we speak.

Felt like doing a brief review for the new character songs if anyone can't listen for whatever reason at the moment.

Naturally: Nice and dancey. Good chemistry between Aoi Yuuki and Eri Kitamura. It's nice to see this duo, because sometimes it feels like the fact these two are best friends is kind of glossed over in preference for the two main couples.

あこがれ咲いた: Bouncy and an engaging chorus, but Aoi Yuuki sounds more mature here, especially compared to Mata Ashita since that's on the CD as well (Naturally sounds almost between the two, interestingly). Interesting what six years does to a voice.

Mebius Ash: Kind of got a funk vibe. Persona 5-y violins. You can tell Chiwa Saito isn't of the younger idol-like seiyuu crop the others are, she strains a lot in her higher ranges.

ユメおと: Aoi Yuuki goes back and forth sounding more like her older Madoka stuff and the more mature tone. Sorta sounds like an ordinary anime OP or ED. I'm sure it's perfectly gay, but it's not as charged as I'd hope a MadoHomu song would be. Maybe lyrical context would help.

Stairs: Now this one is totally an ED and you can't convince me otherwise. Curious about the lyrics - not a pairing I like, but I wonder what angle they're going for here. The musical bridge is honestly the most interesting part musically.

tl;dr none of these are as interesting as Mata Ashita and And I'm Home (in particular, but I love Wowaka's stuff so take that as you will). Lyrics may make them more engaging, but as it stands these songs feel like they were just made for the sake of having something new to put on a CD.

(Something sounds different about Colorful, additionally, like it's more somber early on - I may be misremembering, though.)
