Yes, Akko can certainly have an attitude/tantrum but I'm sure if she was actually mad at Diana she could eventually get over it - even if Diana went to Amanda for a small fling (not that she would, necessarily). Akko, for better or worse, has the emotions of a child - she'd probably get over it quick enough if Diana did something cute/was actually sorry

I don't think Jasminka has much potential to be anything as she is now. She's not developed, but I doubt that anything was even planned for her. Amanda was already an important character in Enchanted Parade, possibly serving as a vent to write a bit more of Ryuuko after Kill la Kill was over. Constanze's tech gimmik is a lot of fun for both writers and animators to work with. This is why she got her own Gurren Lagann episode.
Jasminka just feels like she was added to the trio to make it a trio. They didn't give screentime to her because she had nothing to fill the screentime with, aside from excess body weight.

Made it all the way to the bee episode and losing faith by the episodes. I'm not really a big fan of wearing goggles just to see /u/. Cmon now, don't get my hopes up for nothing.

To be more accurate: Andrew was initially intended as the love interest. However, when it became clear that the entire audience hated him, his plotline was dropped. Hard. They didn't have the time to replace it with anything either. The story with him goes nowhere and he is just pointlessly there in the end.

Yoshinari confirmed that Akko and Andrew's relationship to be a "sort of playful guy-guy relationship" during an interview. That so-called romantic subplot between Andrew and Akko got scrapped way back then and now the two are just bros.

Then the producers of LWA then said that people can do whatever they like with DiAkko because "their relationship is hard to define". Let's not forget Megumi Han being a huge Diana fangirl and outright saying that if Akko is to have a romantic plotline, she already has Diana and Ursula for that.

I was worried about Andrew but if they're just keeping him as Akko's guy friend I've got no problem with him. And I think he was an important bridge to the political stuff, without him there all of it would've seemed even more tangential.

And I actually like that Diana never considered Akko to be her rival. In a way that actually makes her a much better rival for Akko, since deep down she kind of considered Akko to just be beneath her. I really like that they didn't have a more typical rival dynamic, makes their relationship feel more unique and genuine to me.

I agree about the improv approach though, the show definitely has its problems. I still like it though. In spite of its issues it has stuck with me surprisingly well since it ended and I'm looking forward to a second season.

Are we watching the same show? He only appears for like two episodes and a half. The ones who kidnapped the show are Chariot and Croix, who are both my favourite characters and whose arc I don't even dislike. But it still is the most flawed and badly executed part of the show, because, despite being 5 episodes long, it still felt rushed and underdeveloped.

Well, both possibilities are equally ruled out, at least for now. Though Trigger has stated that they would like to expand on Andrew's story in the future, so if there's a season 2 you have to keep that in mind.

Yes the initial Akko/Andrew plan was dropped in favor of keeping it platonic. That doesn't mean automatic Akko/Diana, but they've gone on record telling fans to do whatever they want, as "[Diana and Akko's] relationship is hard to define anyway". Basically just keep on shipping.

As others have said, Megumi Han (Akko's VA) is a massive Diana fangirl and she ardently ships Akko/Diana. Plus there's a couple of official animators that drew Diana and Akko together while the show was airing.

You gotta keep in mind that she's pretty high up in the chain. If she says anything risque then people will just take it and run with her words even if out of context. Since they're deliberately trying to keep romance out of LWA's atmosphere it might quickly go out of control. Animators can get away with doing innocent fanart however they like because in the end they are still fans but a producer has direct control over the project.
I really like it better this way. LWA shouldn't delve too deeply into any unnecessary romance, especially with the main character. It's about a believing heart and magic and all that happy jazz. I'm absolutely content to keep all the shipping to fanworks as they say.

I don't know if defend or not Hibikek, on one side, anime Kumiko is consistently gay and there's no guarantee the movie will be a Love Story, on the other hand the novel always existed since before the anime aired.

The other thing is that people were shipping Dianakko since the day the first OVA came out, so they had plenty of years to decide what to do with it in the anime, they already knew fans opinion on it beforehand, and they know what would happen if they betray their fans.

How could it be fine in the end? The episode I just watched pretty clearly showed that they're normal young girls who talk about boys and get all dokidoki around handsome men. I'm the kind of yuri fan who is cool with subtext and I pair girls together if there's enough between them. I don't expect cannon kisses and confessions but this was definitely het. There needs to be very, very strong subtext with Dianna in the next 15 episodes for me to try and let this slide. Either way this is a huge disappointment.

I felt the same way as you did when those eps were airing, but they really ditch the het screen time later. Andrew is still around sometimes, but he barely interacts with any of the girls, and the majority of screen time goes to Akko/Diana, Ursula/Croix and even some Amanda/Akko.

The climactic final battle has Diana and Akko fighting side by side, for example.

In the end the show has much more yuri subtext than het (although it never goes as far as some recent shows, like Flip Flappers), and the Japanese fanartists are drawing plenty of yuri for it. There's already a Chariot/Croix doujin on dynasty.

6 was actually a great episode with Akko coming to terms with her lack of talent and the beautifully animated Polaris fountain scne that I couldn't see any attraction from Akko and episode 10 had her reacting aversely to both Andrew and Diana so it doesn't mean shit. Lotte is the only one who seemed definitively straight hat episode and that's fine by me.

I lost interest in this back at the skeleton episode, how did the show turn out in general? Those were my two favorites as well so I think you've seen the best the show has.

It's pretty inconsistent up until the end. Some good episodes and some boring ones. Finale was really good at least.

Overall the show is a mixed bag, and when I'd just finished it I was pretty meh about it overall. But after a while I realized it stuck with me more than I expected it to, and even inspired me to get off my ass and start working on some art stuff I've been meaning to do forever. So I recommend it, but Dianna was one of my favorite characters and she gets more focus near the end so take my recommendation with a grain of salt I guess. Maybe don't rush to finish it, but keep it on standby for times you feel lazy and don't want to do anything for twenty minutes.

Same anon here again. So I went and finished it and it was indeed a great show. Andrew did end up being cool after all but I still feel justified for ranting about him after episodes 6 and 10. It really was not necessary to add shoujo shit to an otherwise good series. I mean, this is /u/ and we're supposed to enjoy yuri here so I do think he is a legitimate complaint. I do indeed think Diana and Akko are cute together but they really needed more screen time together. Was reading this fic that had a Chariot/Akko/Diana love triangle. Seemed interesting at first but now it's very clear what the endgame is. Diana is uncharacteristically evil and already dating Akko since chapter 2, and Akko prefers hanging out and being close to Ursula so I guess it's more of a cuck fic.

I like to think their bathing trips are full of little rituals, like lighting candles, undressing slowly and tenderly washing each other's hair and bodies.
