How has KiraKira been? I forgot about it around episode 5 or 6 and I'm thinking of picking it up again.

It's okay. The subject is silly, but it's still fun. Yukari is the best character.

Yuriwise is a little weak, though. Even though people ship Yukari and Akira a lot, there was only one episode focusing on them both. Most of the time they don't even interact that much.
Maybe now with Ciel and Ichika it gets better on that.

I followed an interesting discussion about the fic on twitter yesterday
She asked about Hacha, Gopri, Maho before and it looks like the whole fictional system she is running will be at the limit with 36 slots
So any more additions and (probably gonna change, maybe not) the whole thing starts putting girls into stasis, decided by lottery. Apparently real lottery, so not by author but RNG.
Four from Hacha, four from Gopri and two from Maho makes ten girls that are getting forced in stasis at a time.
I honestly don't know how to feel about that. How much more work can it be to just add 10 characters? There's already 36, not counting the dark precures.
They were also talking about 'relationship entropy' and how she doesn't want to arbitrarily ruin relationships just to make more singles available and how the stasis system will be a decent middle ground for that.
This I think is just a cop-out. Relationships breaks all the time.

Each of the 36 have two or three names (name, last name, Cure name) and two or three defining characteristics. That kinda gets hard to track. Same with their relationships.
Having to put girls on ice still sounds somewhat undesirable if tolerable to me. I hope 4.0 (if that ever happens; and if it happens it doesn't look like it'll be any time soon) increases the char limit.

I think adding more characters = older ones go into stasis at random is more about not making the chapters be 100000 words long a few seasons down the road

The way I understand it, she wants to add the new characters because people want but she doesn't want to end up with 100 (eventually) Cures all active at the same time.

Hime and Megumi are screwed over pretty bad but Tender gets screwed ten times as hard and by extension, Iona.

She always makes a preliminary backstory set after reading about the characters on wiki and talking to people and then adjusts it after watching the show.
The "punished for het" is really strong in this set. So strong that I feel it is kind of unwarranted.

I am 100% on board with the Maria/Iona incest idea by the way.
On the scope thing one last time, sometimes absence makes the heart grow fonder. If we don't see NagiHono for a while, it'll be nice to see em again for example.

I'm guessing that was the troll reccomendation. While that series has a few nice moments, it definitely has the strongest focus on straight romance.

In terms of starting on the franchise, it depends which way you wanna start. I feel Heartcatch is probably the best starting point in general thanks to its stylish appeal. I'll leave it to the other anons to suggest which have the most gay, cos it varies depending on the type of gay you're looking for (eg. Dokidoki is harem gay while Maho Girls is married gay)

Just to warn you that while Futari Was can be pretty googgleable, the protagonist is in love with a guy and it's a plot used quite often.
If you want a het free series, it's better go the some newer ones. Doki Doki, Go Princess, Mahou tsukai and so far KiraKira are all het free. Heartcatch the protagonist does have a crush on some "boys", but for several reasons, it's never a problem.

Interview with directors and the producer.

Akira and Yukari were created because they wanted the show to appeal to older audiences. When reading the script for episode 25, the producer thought to herself if "is this really OK for Precure?" They actually have plans for Himari, it seems like her celebrity career will be expanding further in the future. They kinda new from the start Yukari was going to be the top popular character but even then her intense popularity surprised them. Yukari and Akira's relationship will evolve after episode 25.

In the first draft of the story, Pekorin was going to become the extra Cure but they decided on a new character, someone that represented looking at the sky and aiming for a dream.

The second half of the series will be darker as it will explore the negative feelings of people, which Noir wants to use to cover the world in darkness. New enemy generals will also appear. Elysio is the first of them.

The relationships between the characters will also be shown ever more deeply. They don't want to leave any Cure behind even if they have 6 of them.

- Akira & Yukari were originally intended to draw interest from _grown-up/adult_ audiences, though they aren't surprised by their popularity among little girls too, as they were very much intended as those big sister characters.
- Yukari in particular was a mix of high girl-appeal elements (her color, animal and hair especially) but they still were very surprised at how well her merch sold.
- The theme of having animal-like personalities has been especially resonant with kids, and works even better when their appearance matches. Team has been working hard on that character consistency between episodes (like Ichika hopping like a bunny when she's excited). Nothing about the absentee animal-based combat affinities, though. Maybe that's too boy for them.

- The scale of this battle will grow, but they want to make sure the show still remains upbeat and positive and fun.

I am curious that, since Toei's got the trademark to this instead of Saban, if they'll take a different approach to the localization (would it be too much to retain some of the original soundtrack like the first series' Ocean dub?) I knew the mangas threw out all pretense of subtext, but I didn't think they were going to be this obvious.

Although guess I shouldn't be surprised, since Maho is blatant in its subtext, so the manga just pretty much throws all pretense out the window about subtext.

And with what we know from the Doki Doki manga, it honestly makes be wonder about the other Mangas.
Maybe the Happiness Charge manga ditched the pointless romance, and it we have a fully established Megumi/Hime subtext present. Or the very least, I can dream.

I'm watching PreCure over the summer, currently on Yes! Precure 5, and I'm wondering if every series has an really annoying mascot appear half way through? Pollun in the original, Lulun in Max Heart, Moop and Fuup in Splash (although these are better than the other midway mascots), and Milk is Precure 5.

Well, it's not like het crushes makes Precure shows inherintly bad (Futari wa, Splash Star and Suite all had them (also Fresh, but mostly from the other gender)). Yes and Happicha's one's just felt a bit awkward since they typically involved older men (most of which were also squirrels).
Of course, this is putting opinions on writing quality aside, and if you don't like the seasons for that either that's fine.

In general terms, the quality of the two seasons is not very good, although I am not as long as both seasons also have episodes with poor quality drawing

But their stories are not very good either, especially compared to Suit Precure, which is a fairly beaten season, especially not being Heart Cath, but Suit is better maintained as a Precure series and even the final stretch is quite dark, even has Blackmail and attempted attempted murder

Maybe I'm just angry as elements that are hated in Suit or Smile, are praised in Yes or Hetcharge (a villain and a non-leader character are more popular in Smile is a bad thing, happens the same in Hetcharge and that's a good thing)

Well, the crushes in Futari Wa, Splash Star and Suite were easily ignorable, since they don't really intrude on the plot.

The most irritating of the het crushes I'd say is Kanade's on Ouji, since he literally adds nothing to the plot. The one Futari Wa adds to Nagisa's character development of learning to grow up, when she let's go of wanting to go out with him, and Splash Star's adds a new angle to Mai's character since he's her older brother.

Ouji really shouldn't exist, since he adds nothing. Plus he intruded on Hibiki's personal time with her mum.

Haruka is Minami's knight, so there's no subtle,its still direct.

Now I'd like to defend Happiness Charge, but only in the sense that all the Cures are very good characters, and are written fine, its just the plot threads given to them were shit.

Literally remove Seiji, and the plot improves 100% because there's no needless love triangle bullshit. Blue being there is still annoying, but you can easily ignore him, cause Megumi and Hime now have nothing getting in the way of their subtext.

Pass on Yes 5, I have no stakes in that series, I gave up on Rin/Nozomi, even though I still want it to happen. And sorry Karen/Kurumi just isn't enough for me.

I was also a little confused on the first viewing as to why Ciel got so much attention in the climax. I suppose the official explanation is that July 30th was Ciel's birthday, but let's face it, it's because her rainbows are the perfect compliment to everything else in the episode.

Gay parades on the west tend to be loud and scandalous, the gay pride thing, while Japanese gay parades are very rare and quite for not bothering others, Japan is a society built on shame. Well, I'd say HeartCatch is better written the Suite, only in the sense that HeartCatch kept its tone consistant, and all the Cures were all introduced easily, and on one faded into the background like in Suite, cause I feel once Ako joined the team, Kanade and Ellen kind faded into the background a bit.

But Suite is one near as badly written as Happiness Charge.

Now this is my personal opinion, I think that Suite, Doki Doki and Happines Charge are the 3 least well written seasons. Also the order from worst to best is Happiness Charge, Doki Doki, Suite.

Also the reason why I think Doki Doki is weaker then Suite, is cause I feel Ace was badly written and introduced, where as Ako was just more of she made the writers to give Ellen and Kanade the fair share of screen time.

They impressively kept Regina's "I love you" though.

But yeah, they opted for a mishmash format where they sew together multiple episodes instead of cutting out individual ones, which really screws up the pacing. One example is that they start off episode 2 but right after the whole "you shouldn't tell Rikka/Rachel", it skips straight to episode 3's story like "kek I told her". We also get to miss the meat of a lot of episodes including Rikka's "let me be your swallow" moment and Makoto (who gets the dubbiest name ever dubbed) and her cooking fiasco.

At least they dropped the vignettes and creepy bootleg CG dances.

I just finished Heartcatch and I'd rank it below the original, Fresh, and Yes! S1. However I can definitely see why people enjoy it so much.
