On the one hand, it's easy to see Mitsu as your average tomboy/yamato nadeshiko and childhood friend kind of /u/ relationship, but there's enough nuances to both characters that there's really something special between them as a pairing. It's hard to put my finger on it, but it's great.

Their dynamic in general is really great. There's the childhood crush thing, aspects of the bodyguard crush romance, a girly girl/tomboy romance thing - in some sense they're a bunch of tropes put into one in a really great way.

I've never really been able to pair Mugi with anyone in the group, for no real reason. I like her dynamic with Azusa, but the YuiAzu pairing is nice too.

I can see where you're coming from, but I don't see it the same way myself. In fact, the "ritsu discovering her desirability" thing I've seen done well in Mitsu works where Mio has to point out that no, she isn't the only attractive or pretty or "good" one of the two.

Lucky Star and K-On both seem like series that could use college versions. Lucky Star however seems pretty impossible because the series is set during 2007 to 2008, iirc. Which means a sequel would need to be set right afterwards unless they just do a straight up timeskip to late 20s Konata. K-On thankfully doesn't seem to be as corely dated as LS and thus they could retcon the girls ages.

Recently finished the anime. When I was looking through the ships, I was surprised that Yui/Ritsu wasn't more popular.

I understand how Ritsu/Mio and Yui/Azusa are the main ships. But Yui and Ritsu interact the most frequently throughout the show because they share similar personalities and are often the main mischievous pair in the group's antics. I thought there would be more shipping of them.
