But that would make Asami Mamoru.

I much prefer Makomaru with Asami being Rei in a world where Korusagi realised a teenage infatuation was not not the groundwork to set a relationship upon.
>>
>>1901514
It's isn't a straight up crossover obviously, since Asami and Korra are clearly Haruka and Michiru.
if anything Opal is the Usagi to Bolin's Seiya and Kuvira's Mamoru.

>a teenage infatuation
Which is funny since Usagi clearly had a small infatuation with Rei in Crystals (one of the few good things outta that one I guess)

I didn't think such pleb taste was possible.
>>
>>1902008
I'm actually thinking of Mako and that Fire Nation princess. Mako/Lin can't even work because of what Bryke said. That when we finds his true love he won't make the same mistake as with them. That alone can't be Lin because she obviously loves the bottle more than him. The relationship would already be doomed before it started.
>>
>>1902013
They bottle noodles in this setting?
>>
>>1902020
Very much so.
>>
>>1902013
Bryke do tend to try and fit their previous ideas in in some fashion. Originally the Water Tribe Civil War was going to be in the first season of Korra. Then they slapped it in season 2. Wan was put in there too rather than them making a comic about the origin after AtLA ended back when they apparently had the idea during Earth.
The "high-tech" future seems to be happening that Avatar was originally before the Fire Nation sent things back. Tech is a thing and science is trumping bending.
Fire Nation princess seems like a high enough possibility given that they'll need to make up reasons for Mako and Bolin to keep tagging along with Korra rather than just live their own lives.
>>
>>1902053
Yeah that was my idea as well. Besides I want to know how she'll look. Inb4 she looks like Suki.
>>
>>1902056
She'll look like Azula both for gratuitous fanservice and because Zuko has been keeping the bloodline pure.
>>
>>1902079
That's too easy. A granddaughter can realistically look like the sister of her grandfather. Looks sometimes skip a generation.
>>
>>1902081
>Looks sometimes skip a generation.
The phrase "skips a generation" triggers me every single time
>>
>>1902085
Welcome to the Avatar thread on /u/. Everyone is triggered by the most pointless shit here.
>>
>>1902086
Having actual training and education in genetics is the source of me being triggered by that so it's pretty specific and I understand why no one else is. Still not as bad as referring to evolution as a ladder or anything like that though.

As if the royal family will ever let Mako marry into the family. This isn't like the Bei Fongs where they clearly will look past someone nouveau rich like Bolin to marry into the family. At the end of the day, Mako is essentially a commoner not worthy to seed the bloodline of Sozin.

They'd logically come to the conundrum of how Asami shows FN and EK phenotypes but never realized her WT genes.

Which actually allow her eggs to be fertilized with Korra's much more easily due to genetic compatibility, siring eight embryos.

Six of which are to be intentionally aborted. And another mysteriously aging a lot faster than the surviving twins.

It's good to be among such c/u/nnoiseurs. inb4 janitors deem this into the trash because context is irrelevant to the page index.

I completely understand Linako/Min is the quintessential crackship that, despite being a hetship, /u/ actually approves of. Still, I feel honored to be part of and witness to something as farfetched and one in a googol chance as this pairing to find traction in the most unlikeliest of places.

That's less about giving a shit about Mako than ignoring what her mother wants becaus dear mommy doesn't want her daughter to hook up with some peasant. See? All about rebellion.

Izumi would insist she hook up with a water tribe peasant to make amends for the attempted genocide and diversify the Fire Nation.
>>
>>1902468
She falls for his sob story like how Korra and Asami did. Bonus points if Bolin introduces her to his brother.
If Mako was really smart then he would have just taken Bolin and lived out on Air Temple Island once they recovered from the shock of watching that Zorro movie and then going into that dark alleyway with their parents.
Mako must tag along with his friends at all costs while Bolin goes off with Varrick and Zhu Li as their adopted kid and gets showered in money and praise.
>>
>>1902482
See, and Honora won't stand for that because that's bullshit in her opinion and everyone can take their "six gorrilion" and shove them where the sun doesn't shine because it wasn't HER that killed airbenders so she doesn't see why she should be the one taking responsibility for it.

They're not wrong though. ATLA was a pretty great, subversive, and innovative series. Though I can't imagine Aang literally falling on his sword in the second episode when he realized how profoundly he had disgraced himself and that everyone he knew as dead was easy for Bryke to right around. That's probably why ATLA was so short, honestly.

And it doesn't change the fact that the response to the initial replies to the troll was more of an overreaction. Besides, my reaction was "go away." Hardly as hysterical as you're making it out to be. The other nee-chan was a bit more touchy, sure.

Huh. Maybe it was Concerned, trying to throw us off his scent by not even bothering to feign as a fan, and instead trying to disguise himself in badly conceived suffering.

Also may I submit that your response to the response to the initial response is the overreaction since how much an overreaction something is is apparently a function of some kind of weird recursive conversation fractal

>Yes, Kuvira's a villain-sue. There I said it

I think she has enough flaws to disqualify her from that position. BUT, she does seem to have access to the script.

>"All the world leaders here plus a cadre of metalbending police and airbenders, and hundreds morei n the city? I'll just illegally declare myself Earth Empress in the capital of a foreign nation. Surely my dozen troops, three of whom are nonbending scientists and one a RC native will intimidate them into inaction."

>"Oh, the near invincible demi god that I last saw tearing mountains in two is about to annihilate my army if I don't resolve the situation peacefully. Though a real threat to hundred thousand strong army, she looks more tentative than usual. I guess. I've never had an interaction with her before, so I really don't have anything to go on. I'll just challenge her to a one on one duel and risk losing everything."

>"I've just conquered Zaofu, so lets strip its domes for platinum to build an impossible robot that can only run on a fuel source that hasn't yet been discovered to work like that and to house a weapon we couldn't possibly have conceived of yet."

Amon was OP as fuck, and Hiroshi had presumably been planning for years, so the Equalists always being a step ahead of the heroes was understandable. Unalaq seemed as confused as the audience. The Red Lotus, as powerful as they were, endured several setbacks, could fought off, and always avoided a fair fight with Korra.

Kuvira, despite being the weakest villain, has everything consistently fall her way until the finale. She's not a Villain Sue, but she's the beneficiary of what TV Tropes would call a Diabolus Ex Machina.

She has a broad base of support and just arresting her on the spot would probably immediately send the Earth Kingdom back into anarchy and potentially lead to rioting instigated by her brown shirts in Republic City (which had already been shown to exist).

And that it actually matters as anything but a joke. I'm sick unto death of "this adheres to x, y, and z pages and therefore I am correct" when the categories are broad enough that literally every concept in every piece of fiction ever made can it a at least a half dozen TV tropes pages. It's also part o a general trend of analyzing fiction by codifying it into a series of discrete eternal categories mixed in various permutations instead of, God forbid, letting a work stand on its own and just taking it on a case by case basis.

Do you have that cap from a couple of weeks ago showing the number of subplots Bolin, Mako and Asami each had? I think Bolin had more going on than most of the rest of the main cast combined save Korra.
>>
>>1903794
I don't but I remember it and yeah I think Korra was the only one with more than Bolin.
>>
>>1903778

I think I'd have really liked Mako if his first two seasons had been more like his Season 3 on incarnation, and his subplots were more about him being a detective and looking after Bolin than his dysfunctional relationship with Korra and yanking Asami's chain.

Admittedly, I mostly want that because the idea of not-boyfriend Mako picking up on Korrasami before Korra does sounds funny.

>Srsly tho, do the writing and (especially the) characterisation improve from the first episode?
Well aside from the endings being a bit predictable (but honestly what isn't these days?) but I would say yeah. I didn't like the majority of the cast either when I first played it, but in the end I got pretty attached to them. Especially Chloe, who I disliked with a passion.
So if you want an honest opinion I would say give it a try when you can get the rest of the season for cheap during the christmas sale. It's a rather comfy game for the most part so it works well if you sit down at a cold winter evening, wrap yourself in something warm and just play it.

Also Ashly Burch really kills it as Chloe in the future episodes.

>>
>>1904641
Take a look at the spoiler webm here >>1904232 and look at it until it's finished.
Otherwise them being romantically involved is based on how you play Max, though the game really knocks you over your head that Max is attracted to Chloe, especially later on. And well, theres an end where they are definitely together. Problem is the endings were kinda predictable and DONTNOD suffered from budget problems so the endings aren't entirely what they desired of them.
That being said they are also easy to headcanon the way they are too.

>I recall some pushy hipster fuck from the first ep who seemed nailed on to be the mc's love interest.
Warren? Yeah he CAN be, but that's entirely depending on how you play. Though I think that was actually shoehorned in since most of the time Max is actually a bit indifferent to his advances. There's a reason Warren fans are called Warrenkeks in /lisg/

When was the Witcher LoK /u/'s official game? I think only me an one other anon ever talked about it at length.
>>
>>1905112
There are tumblr characters and sometimes tumblr themes. But I've found it's really easy to avoid them or even enjoying not helping the tumblr characters. Alyssa is one i really enjoyed watching get hurt the whole way through.

I wouldn't call any of the main characters tumblr but they do often say cringy stuff. IT makes them feel kinda of realistic as teens since they're so retarded.

It's a great game though and I really didn't see some of the twists coming... except the dumb last one.
>>
Why won't western devs like Tell Tale just admit they're making visual novels and stop calling them games? There's nothing wrong with it.
>>
>>1905112
I won't lie to you, the game is about an awkward hipster-girl with time powers that is into photography and goes to a college-prep school because of said photography and the class is also filled with a few hipsters (some more so than others) BUT the cast grows on you and Max grows out of her cocoon and becomes more confident due to her interactions with Chloe, who comes off as a tumblerina in the first episode but is more of a punk with abandonment issues (and is actually a rather selfless person in the end).
To keep it short: it may come off as tumblr bait (and tumblr obviously loves the game) but it's a nice game and that comes from someone that hates tumblr.
And it's not shit like "they are gay for gay's sake." either, considering that you can have Max show interest in a guy (kekest of keks) and you also don't need to take the relationship between Chloe and Max into a romantic direction if you don't want to.
>>
>>1905117
Yeah I'm wondering that too. Because the game is rather lacking in /u/ themes all in all.
Now LiS on the other hand....
>>

>Because the game is rather lacking in /u/ themes all in all.

>>

Why not just call the Japanese ones shitty visual novels then?
>>
>>1905127
We talked "game" though. Not books. And the Witcher games have like a few scenes and that's it.
While LiS gives us three (one of them being canon) potential /u/ ships that aren't completely retarded with Victoria coming off as a tsundere, Kate just being a sweet cinnamon bun and Chloe being the obvious designated love interest unless you're majorly retarded.
It's a bit sad for the Warren fans that he has less character to him than Kate, Chloe and Victoria even.
>>
>>1905133
Well I don't consider VNs to not be games as ong as you have a choice. Pick your own adventure books are games too. They're just games with very very few options.

You know I don't know how well that holds up. Life is Strange does have failure states (as well as bad ends). The failure states prompt you to rewind time though and it makes them appear like they might not be failure states.

But if you think about it it's just an in game recreation of the checkpoint system. In most other games you reach the fail state then are returned to an earlier part of the game. The difference is that those games don't have a handy in universe explanation for these transitions from fail state to check point.

Prince of persia actually does something similar but they have a second layer to it so that if you fail in a certain way you're taken back to an earlier check point... which is justified in story by the main character being the worst story teller on the face of the planet.
>>
>>1905147
I know. But that line was what started the whole topic.

Exactly. Having a gay or bi character isn't pandering. Catering to tumblr's persecution complex is. This can actually lead to some wild misinterpretations of fiction. Take LoK for example; when the Red Lotus have poisoned Korra and are trying to kill her; they're attacking the living embodiment of the ultimate institution, who happens to be a sheltered eighteen year old who has been gradually maturing emotionally and physically while faces incredible crises.

To tumblrinas, even the smart, erudite ones, that scene was all about a man, Zaheer, representative of the establishment (white patriarchy), using physical force to "brutalise the body of an oppressed WoC, declaring ownership over her."

They entirely flip the meaning of the scene. A fantasy Asian anarchist becomes an avatar of western patriarchial establishment. He becomes the opposite of what he is meant to represent.

Korra, a caged lion, too powerful to face and only subdued through underhanded means, a highborn member of one of only three real currently equal races, becomes representative of victims; the weak and oppressed, those taken advantage of by Zaheer's patriarchy.

Ignore that Ming-Hua, Zaheer's equal in their group, tired to decapitate Korra in the name of her ideals. That doesn't fit with any interpretation besides internalised soggy elbows, so can be dismissed.

Even if you don't pander to the persecution complex, don't worry, tumblr finds a way.

It's not the only thing going on in the scene, but if you think an older man trying to murder a young woman by violently inserting something into her body is completely incidental to what's happening, you aren't that hot at interpreting fiction either.

Thank you.

I didn't want to buy a title and discover fifteen minutes in that it was "This is what tumblr actually believes: The Game."

I think the point is you can put meaning into any kind of scene if you want to do it.
For me it was hardly "male oppression" but just some rad as fuck villain that was trying to kill the main character. Gender is secondary to me there. But tumblr likes to make everything about gender, sexuality and race these days.

It's funny though since most people refer to SJWs as marxist but as soon as a character like Zaheer comes along and points out that Korra is keeping oppressive regimes in power and is in every way pro equality and anti capitalism he's still the bad guy for having a dick.

You should ready yourself for a good dose of suffering though.Max sure doesn't have it easy.

Not to mention 2 of the 5 nations are run by women and the universes god is currently a woman.

If tumblr had it their way Izumi would be trans.

Imagery evocative of rape =/= patriarchy/misogyny.

It was unpleasant and intentionally so, but to suggest Bryke were intentionally hinting at an underlying issue heretofore untouched in that season is being disingenuous. Especially when you have to remove the context to make it fit.

Or how about instead of "older man" why not call Zaheer "a well intentioned but misguided revolutionary". Instead of saying "violently insert something into her body" why not say "magically poison"? Sounds a lot less justifiable when you put it that entirely legit way.

for all we know she could be. She has like 1 line in the show.

You saw that post, too?

>for all we know she could be.

Zuko calls her "my daughter." He had enough insanity to deal with in his family to ever want to facilitate it in his children. I don't think he would call his son his daughter no matter how much he complained.

Marxists don't exactly like anarchists, you know.

The rape imagery is actually quite persistent, starting from season one and Korra's attempted duel against Amon. It's also probably not an accident that rather than being treated as an "ultimate institution", Korra has to deal with far more disrespect and doubts about her worth than Aang. The subtext is definitely there.

That must be why there was so much rape imagery related to Aang.

Rape allusion =/= patriarchy.

>It's also probably not an accident that rather than being treated as an "ultimate institution", Korra has to deal with far more disrespect and doubts about her worth than Aang. The subtext is definitely there.

Okay, you're fucking retarded. She was being compared to Aang. The peacekeeper, the saviour of the world, the man that built Republic City. It was a primary theme of the entire show. Aang and Wan are her direct foils. Hence outgrowing them at the end of Book Two.

If you saw sexist attitudes there, it was because you were looking for them. Korra is derided for for immaturity and lack of spirituality; never for her sex or for her lack of conformity to gender roles (except by Mako and Grandma Yin, who are presented as being immature and antiquated respectively).

>That must be why there was so much rape imagery related to Aang.

Held captive and on display by Zhao in kinky chains? Giant vagina faced monster tries to consume his very identity? Is powerless until the female spirit of the Ocean subsumes him?

You can make any old shit into rape imagery if you're looking to.
>>
>>1905295
>Rape allusion =/= patriarchy.
It generally does.

>She was being compared to Aang
Yeah, and Aang wasn't compared to his predecessors much and he wasn't worried about his own adequacy as an avatar, aside from being too young. He doesn't have to worry about others dismissing him or being violated. It may not be what's literally happening in-universe, but Bryke clearly gave Korra the kinds of challenges and fears women in our world face.

>>1905299
The Zhao and Ocean spirit examples don't use rape imagery as far as I remember, but there is a bit of a pedo vibe to Koh. It's likely why he's so memorable, but do note he isn't a major villain like Zaheer and Amon.
