Yes, everything will be GENKI DESS. 11 was sure non-stop breakdowns and development but they had a lot to fit into the space left before the end. Don't think it was really rushed as such but originally they were a bit more separate arcs that gave you time to come down again.
Just ignore Mii-kun's breaking the fourth wall more than zombies break everything else with her comments on the novel. That was funny and dire at the same time.

In the anime, Miki got lucky that zombie Taroumaru didn't attack her. Is there even a reason for that or?

I don't think it's really much of an asspull, the zombies have thematically stuck to places important to them, still doing routines from their lives like going to school and seeking shelter from the rain. I guess the ones on the roof were a sort of exception since they don't have time to animate a whole helicopter crash arc separately from all the other chaos they fit into the time. That or some were the horticulture club and zombies really love destroying things anyway.

Plot armour aside, pretty much the above posts. I expected Taromaru to create a distraction within the episode so that'll probably happen next time. Maybe finds a box of ping pong balls again. Zombies sure love ping pong and classy music.

Similarly, Megu-nee in Kurumi's zombie-fever dream really happened, but at the time, she still had the sentience to stop, turn away from the door and go to the shelter, then keep writing teacher reports and notes for her students in the book. Taromaru and Miki made up, but Kurumi had always chased it around threateningly with the shovel so what little memory and instinct it had wasn't going to default to good will for the evil shovel girl.

Speaking of shovels, it's a shame we probably won't get to see much to any of Miki's borrowing the shovel developing into being Kurumi's kouhai ship like later chapters. We already won't get the parking lot or rooftop time they had together.

Hmm, I hadn't thought about the difference of Taroumaru's relationship with Miki and Kurumi, but it makes some sense. Maybe in his zombie mind, Kurumi looks actually dangerous rather than just playful. Besides, maybe the zombie virus works a bit different in dogs than in humans? Talking about it, they would be soo screwed if a pack of zombie dogs attacked them, or zombie cats and rats, since they seem more agile and sneaky.

Yeah, hadn't thought about it much until there. Zombies being aggressive is normal, and running past Miki was quick enough to not worry about given everything else but there's some sense in it.

I don't know about affecting them differently beyond dogs and animals behaving differently to humans to begin with but yeah, animals are great disease carriers, and it affects all mammals in Gakkou. That's probably a very general zombie fiction thing that comes down to focusing on human epidemic makes it more personal and intense than getting attacked by a pack of rabid dogs.

Also makes the gang up on and "eat" Miki art a fun thing. There needs to be more sexy sex ghoul zombies like that.

Well, time to watch the RAWs I guess.

So yeah, bit of a tearjerker this one. They decided to go with a more sombre resolution to the whole school full of zombies thing, with a rather teary closure to Taroumaru's arc that sorta incorporates what I predicted, just in a differnt way. As a closer to an anime adaptation, it works pretty darn well.
Also a mystery girl appears, but I dunno if it's one of the uni chicks we've seen in the manga or someone completely new.

Birds are immune so I guess it's not airborne but yeah, with what little we know, it's a pretty bad affair that seems to have really gotten out of hand. Nothing on how widespread it is.

Manga is a long way off the company behind it all but we know the school and university was built or renovated under contract as a shelter, and that really didn't work out.

Maybe insects don't detect zombies as a source of food. If I'm not mistaken some insects are guided to their targets through sensing their heat, zombies don't have that, so insects wouldn't notice/be attracted to them.

That would be interesting, maybe birds and insects (and all animals who don't zombiefy when infected) die if they get infected, so they avoid it, thus not spreading it to healthy people. It is better to think that way, otherwise people in every single zombie media wouldn't have a chance against infected mosquitoes/insects. I already have some trouble believing the GG girls haven't been attacked by zombie dogs/cats/rats, who are faster and sneakier. I know the focus of zombie apocalypses is on humans, but you can't just ignore the infected animals if you stated them to exist. It looks better written if you give some reason/excuse for them to not be seen/attack the survivors as much as human zombies.

I don't think there are that many rats infected. Rats are fucking smart and any weird change in their surroundings and they flee. Another thing they do is to scarify the weak to prove on the unknown like "poisoned food." Cats and dogs are generally faster than a human, they would usually outrun a zombie.

I know it was an anime-only thing, but I got curious anyway. So Taroumaru died after he got the vaccine, but we know the vaccine is not a permanent cure and you have to take more shots again later in your life, so the virus probably doesn't leave the infected's body, maybe it just goes dormant or something. So, will Taroumaru revive as a zombie again?

Probably not. This is more of a "the infected become zombies" thing rather than "the dead come back to life". As such, since Taroumaru passed away, even if the antidote were to wear off (since they don't have time to cover it in the anime I don't it would factor into it anyway), he'd still be dead.

Made me go back and check, and now I really don't know what to think of this quick scene at the end.
I think it's too light/fluffy to be Taromaru, so this was the dog they were talking about? But also Yuki buried the hat. I'm giving benefit of the doubt that it wasn't a consistency error and either dug it up for easy reference of "this is the grave with the other dog keeping Taromaru company" or something. Or it IS Taromaru which is a really bad implication for Kurumi's future in the manga.

Beyond that, the shifts and changes to the end were interesting, given the author was very involved in essentially editing and redesigning this edition, I wonder if it says anything about future interactions, like Mii-kun going back to being more of a thing with Yuki, or Kurumi being closely involved with Rii-san's developments.

Not much for /u/ in chapter 40 beyond building more cast and Uni arc groundwork. Seems the front gate group are all girls too, if not very bright.

As for the series, they made a big thing of Taroumaru dying, but very little of the car passing by zombie Kei.
I know the manga doesn't make anything out of it either, but it would have been at least some sort of closure for Miku.

Oh true, may have been a translation blip or that one is male, wasn't present but named Kougami. I could be wrong about the right one being a butch tomboy but she even has a beauty mark under the lip. Calling the high school girls "new things to share" seems silly, and you're hardly going to seem hospitable chasing them with helmets on, regardless of if you were using them for your own safety beforehand.

Given how the episode ran, I think it was a bit stronger closure than the manga's scene there. All the present zombies had gone home, so Kei was only now reaching the school for the first time, rather than a hairstyle in the crowd that could have been anyone.

Still a shame the scene passes so fast, yeah. I guess we're not supposed to dwell on it that firmly the same way Mii-kun lets it go and lives on for her sake.
