Most of the good ones have been listed - along with The Shining, The Exorcist, The Omen. There's a few I liked, like 13 Ghosts, and The Cabin In The Woods. Maybe throw in the old Hammer films, and stuff like The House On Haunted Hill. The original Wicker Man. Rosemary's Baby was good.

GOAT. I watched this for the first time recently and it surprised me with how fucked up it felt. The first kill especially was brutal and felt real.

The sequel is a lot of fun as well even if it's a completely different vibe. Dennis Hopper chainsaw duels with Leatherface.

It's great, but it's typical slow pace for the time frame.

If you're a horror and modern classical movie fan, it's worthwhile.
If you like (((horror))), you'd probably not enjoy it.

Looking through this thread, most of /tv/ doesn't watch horror outside of mainstream media.

Guys, who remembers an old horror film where a man/woman is having an NDE. Basically, he/she is in the hospital -if I remember correctly- and you can see the person floating through a hellish tunnel. Shadow figures grab the person through the tunnel. This goes on for a while and the shadowy figures become more violent once they notice the person doesn't wanna go through. When the person gets back to life, there are hand markings on his/her arm.

>>
>>87849350
Buy the bluray with the theatrical and the "Version Nobody Should Ever See" it's really great and has a bunch of extras.
The theatrical version of The Exorcist is literally the perfect horror movie. Even The Shining doesn't quite reach that mark even if it comes close. Go out of your way to watch it.

Sidenote: that white demon face that shows up 60+ times in the director's cut only shows up 3 times in the original (in a silent flashback dream sequence, recoiling in pain after being doused with holy water, and half of it superimposed on Regan's face.

I don't get why people keep saying Pontypool is great. I was attracted by the idea of being in a radio booth as the zombie apocalypse starts and initiation the build up is quite good but then the entire second half where zombies start to get in, as well as the ending itself, is so shitty and boring. Conceptually I kinda thought the way the infection works was interesting but the execution was lacking.

NOTLD 90 is great but it would rival the original if they just didn't fuck with the story. The Phantasm movies were also among the rare horror films that I actually enjoyed.

The House from 85 is fucking amazing. It's like if someone turned Silent Hill into a comedy.

A lot of fun if you're a horror fan and/or enjoy Raimi's other stuff

Well-regarded classics:

28 Days Later
Alien/Aliens
Blair Witch Project
The Exorcist
Jacob's Ladder
Rosemary's Baby
The Shining
The Thing
Videodrome

Lesser-known gems:

Altered States
The Descent
The Invitation
Possession (the one with Sam Neill, any other films with this name probably suck)
Spring

These are just my main favorites, there are obviously tons more. The Cabin in the Woods and Scream 2 are probably my favorite horror comedies.
