They are paying homage to the old Raimi movies, which mind you, Sony made and owns. So technically, even if you don't want to give them the benefit of a doubt, they are copying their own homework, not someone elses.
>>
>>87602732
Homecoming is an inferior movie to Spider-Man 1 and 2 in every conceivable way though.
>>
>>87603012
LOL sage
>>
>>87603012
They are stealing Raimi's shit because the new director is a literal who hired to do Pascal/Feige's bidding.
>>
>>87602732
In what way is a scene where Spder-Man tries and succeeds to slow a train down, the same as trying and failing to stop a ferry being cut in two?
>>
>>87603275
You can't steal something that you own. Raimi doesn't have the rights to his Spiderman movies, Sony does. That's like saying whoever directs Avengers Infinity War is stealing from Joss Whedon if he decided to make a call-back to any of the previous movies.
>>
>>87602732
How can the suit on the left look better than the suit on the right, despite roughly 15 years of advancements in CGI? I seriously have no words for how fucking hideous it looks
>>
>>87603443
The suit on the left is actually real. That's how.
>>
>>87603443
Probably because the one on the left isn't CGI. They just needed Maguire to stand in front of a small train set and look like he's in pain.
>>
>>87603500
>>87603541
Alright but that does not explain why the suit on the right looks like it was ripped from that Spiderman game on the Playstation 2

There's actual tension in the train sequence which keeps building up throughout. You don't know if Peter will manage to stop the train in time.

The ferry scene is so fucking laughable, it has no weight and looks like a video game cutscene. It's predictable too because you know Iron Man is gonna show up any minute to save the day.
>>
>>87603421
Sure if you're that cynical and claim anything a director ever made is corporate ownership sure.

I guess any director working for New Line Cinema can go and steal LOTR shots and claim it's fine because the company owns the film. Doesn't make the stealing any less shit.

Raimi one is made with care and had probably undergone several revisions before they settled on something that looked good for the camera.

The MCU one is just a CGI suit they outsourced to India to hastily animate so they could meet their unreasonable deadlines. You can't rush quality.

No, only the director who would be tasked with directing a LOTR reboot.

In that image the bottom one looks better though. Like the classic cartoon costume whereis the Raimi one is very 90s edge looking. The new suit only looks worse in a handful of select still images.

>In that image the bottom one looks better though.
Nah it looks fucking garbage. The CGI is so unneccessary and lazy.
>>
>>87602732
what game is the right one from?
>>
>>87603797
The Raimi costume is CGI'd to hell and back in that promo shot though. The new one actually looks more realistic in that particular comparison image, almost bland in a way, like something out of a low budget TV show.

I've seen SFM porn with better, more fluid and less robotic animations than that shit

In Spider-Man 2, the scene serves to show how Spider-Man is being pushed to his limits but manages to rise and meet the challenge, and in the following scene, Spider-Man is lifted up and praised by the people as a hero.

Homecoming takes this Spider-Man scene and twists it into something new. You expect it to play out the same way, but ultimately, Spider-Man fails to save the people, who would have died if Iron Man hadn't swooped in with the save. In the following scene, he's forgotten and abandoned by the people (who stop chanting his name and start praising Iron Man) and then lectured by Iron Man. This works really well to establish that this Homecoming Spider-Man is different from the Spider-Man of Spider-Man 2. The Homecoming Spider-Man is younger, less experienced, and less capable. He's not yet able to deal with what the older, more experience Spider-Man of Spider-Man 2 went through.

The scenes also serve different functions for the different Spider-Men's stories. In Spider-Man 2, Spider-Man gives up being Spider-Man. He throws out the ol' Spidey suit and retires. The train scene is a redemption for Spider-Man, it's him refusing to give up even when pushed beyond his limits, even when it seems like he's going to die. Homecoming Spider-Man's story, meanwhile, is about him trying to prove himself, and him failing in the boat scene shows that he still has a ways to go.

Ultimately, I really appreciated that they included this iconic scene in Homecoming the way that they did. It was really clever, and it's a bit oafish to just disregard it as a "rip-off."

They used motion capture for any of the action scenes that it was easier to do.The actual live action costume doesn't look that bad.

The train scene has tension and the outcome isn't certain.

The ferry scene has no tension and the outcome is very predictable, i.e. Iron Man showing up to save the day.
>>
>>87604502
The outcome in Spider-Man 2 is certain. It's pretty clear Spider-Man isn't going to die and is going to save the day. That's how they set up that scene. In Homecoming, they set it up the same way like he's going to save the day, then pull a spin on it, even if you "saw it coming" (but didn't see it coming in Spider-Man 2?).

>>
>>87604565
I didn't say he was going to die. He was torn between pursuing Doc Ock who holds Mary Jane captive and stopping a speeding train full of innocent civilians. At any point he could have given up, seeing it as a lost cause or he could have simply failed to save the passengers. There was no help coming.

It's marvel/disney- everything revolves around corporate ownership to them. Their understanding of movies postdates a time when superhero directors or cinematographers were relevant to the artistic process of their films
>>
>>87605347
So you thought Spider-Man was gonna go "seeya!" and leave a bunch of innocent civilians to die on a train? Alright.

>>
>>87602732
WTF Raimi is also paying homage in that scene
>>
>>87605469
Well maybe not, but there was still a possibility he could fail, because he was being pushed to his limits.
>>
>>87605863
There was no possibility that he could fail. It's a fucking kid's story, mate. They're pretty straight forward. Good guy saves people and beats the bad guys. There's no mystery there. There's not even a hint of it. That's not to say there's no tension, just that the tension isn't in whether or not Spider-Man will succeed. The tension is in watching the sequence play out where Spider-Man has obstacles thrown at him over and over. It's going along on a roller coaster ride, even though all the riders know more or less where the ride ends up.

In the original Sam Raimi movie Peter abuses his newfound powers to get money for a new car so he can impress May Jane. He becomes arrogant and selfish. After uncle Ben's untimely death he becomes a responsible young man, willing to put himself in harm's way for the greater good.

In Homecoming he's still a dumb, irresponsible faggot, even though uncle Ben's death was implied already in Civil War ("When you can do the things I can, but you don't, and then the bad things happen, they happen because of you"). He doesn't care as much about the people of New York as he cares about winning Tony Stark's favour. He's so fucking naive, he got talked into crashing Liz's party by his fat friend so he can raise his social status. At the end of the movie, he declines Tony Stark's offer because he doesn't want to miss out on his teenage years (as indicated by a scene during Liz's party), not so much because he wants to be NYC's vigilante.

Also, did that hack Jon Watts forget that Spider-Man has spider-sense? Or that he lifted a fucking gangway in Civil War? Yet for some reason he couldn't lift a pair of air conditioners in Homecoming.

There wasn't even any web-swinging through NYC. It's like a Superman movie where Superman doesn't fly.

Fuck this turd of a movie.
>>
>>87606615
>there wasn't a web-swinging through NYC
