Awful thread so far but I'll post anyway: I'm pretty hyped for this. Gosling and Leto have both shown they can do roles like this pretty well (gosling moreso but I think Leto can act well if he's given a decent script). It looks really nice from the trailer, and it's being directed by someone who's already made some good shit. The guy who wrote the original blade runner and the guy who made american gods are the screenwriters on it, so it's probably not gonna be lacking in that department either. I honestly thing it'll be really good.

When you have these big names known for their skill within cinematography, you don't really want to restrict their creative freedom.
I feel like Blade Runner isn't as much about its visuals as it is about its atmosphere.
I am more than confident Villeneuve and the talented people he is working with are perfectly capable of capturing that emotional neo-noir feeling the original had without completely recreating previous elements.

He wasn't fired you dumbfuck, Zimmer came in way late in the post production process and not just him but Wallfisch also, probably because a few scenes didn't work out as they wanted in the editing room so they came in to rearrange a few already made tracks or so. They mainly worked arrangement and composition in the tracks for it to compliment the original Vangelis score because Johannsson is more of an ambient "one note" composer.

We both know that probably is also untrue. Ford will likely die in the first 10 minutes and the only thing similar to the first film will be use of the words 'replicant' and 'Blade Runner'.
We already know the film is about the Goose, Ford is just going to be exposition for a scene before dying.

While the framing and composition in The Revenant is undoubtedly beautiful, I would still give it to Deakins that year because the visuals in Sicario actually tell a story, while in The Revenant most of it is empty pretty visuals and long take gimmicks which Lubezki has done a million times already.
Not to mention that half of The Revenant visuals are ripped straight from Tarkovsky, especially the dream sequences.

Try 10 years. I remember this was a meme when I was in high school 10 years ago.

Not only clean, but also that shitty lighting, maybe everthing looking sterile was part of the director's vision, but it sure doesn't help make it interesting to watch.

Orange and blue is overused in movie posters and it started to show up on movie posters a decade ago. Shut the fuck up.

Holy shit it's real! I can't believe a building like that exists, in the middle of LA no less. It looks like an ancient aztec temple re-purposed into a mansion.

>>
>>87560780
I'm pretty sure you can pick a few visually non extravagant frames from the original Blade Runner and compare it with some of the more "DENSE" visually pleasing frames from the new one and make the same argument. Nitpicking.
>>
>>87560948
Try it, you really can't. Even Tyrell's place didn't look that dull.
The original had way too much personality in every shot.
>>
>>87560948
It really isn't. The new movie looks too clean, too neat.

Even the scene that takes place in a junkyard >>87560110 looks wrong.

>>87560948
The original is perfect in literally every frame.

I don't know what's more depressing:
-that you actually posted this thinking that cherry-picking counts as an argument since there are several easily-available trailers showing how biased this is
-that people are actually being persuaded by this crap

Just nuke /tv/, it's beyond saving
>>

I haven't, but the warning signs that his movie will suck are all there famalam.
>>
>>87561036
>The new movie looks too clean, too neat.
You're all acting like they wanted to make it gritty and dense like the original and made it "clean" by mistake.
It clearly doesn't try to look like exactly like the original, you think Deakins wouldn't shoot on film on the same camera with the same exact setup if he wanted for it to look exactly the same? And you can't argue about visuals until you see the film and if the visuals fit the narrative, making it look quite empty and clean is clearly a strong stylistic choice most probably because of the narrative which should support it.
>>
>>87561572
Why bother making a sequel if you are not even trying to emulate the original's aesthetics though?

The world that this movie takes place in doesn't look like the world of the original movie. Might as well make a new movie and not a Blade Runner sequel.

Low-key lighting! omg so original and cool!

Case dull outfits that you'd see in everyday life are so much better than original realistic costumes which pop right?

Prometheus was very grey, a very different sort of colour palette and visual aesthetic. It was a good movie though.

>that one soldier struggling to get his NV on
>>
>>87562077
The point is that 30 years passed and the world is a different place now.
The film is still heavily stylized just like the original and clearly going for the same level of visual storytelling and focus on atmosphere with exploring the grey are inbetween right and wrong (like with most Villeneuve films), just a different execution most probably because of the different narrative.

Why would you want it to be exactly like the original? What's the point of making a new one if it's exactly the same thing?
Imagine if Fury Road was exactly the same as Road Warrior.

I don't know why, but the shot of Dave Bautista in the trailer looks most "Blade Runner" to me out of all of them.

He looks like a otherworldly mongoloid, which helps with the whole eerie "unfamiliarity in the familiar" feel.
