>There is nothing clownish about It, which grossed a massive $51 million on Friday from 4,103 theaters for a weekend debut north of $100 million.

>It is shattering numerous records, including landing the biggest start ever for a horror film, not accounting for inflation. And it's the biggest opening ever for the month of September. The movie's Friday take alone was bigger than the previous September crown holder, Hotel Transylvania 2, which pulled in $48.5 million for the three days.

>And its Friday haul almost matched the opening weekend of Paranormal Activity 3 ($52.6 million), which is the current record-holder for top horror opening.

>The movie also nabbed the biggest Friday ever for an R-rated title, beating Deadpool's $47 million. (Deadpool went on to open to $132.4 million, however.) And its Thursday preview gross of $15.3 million was the best ever for an R-rated title (besting Deadpool at $12.7 million).

You should be cautiously optimistic. The seconds half of the book wasn't as good. Same with the miniseries. IT just isn't as fun when the kids have all grown up. Rated R is shit, though. R is voluntarily censored, meaning a panel of people in California including a Rabbi, two Vicars and a Catholic priest or something get to force edits on films to make sure the director (an adult) doesn't show you (also an adult) anything too scary, sexual, or shocking. It's so retarded. I cannot wait until all theatres go out of business and everything is direct to streaming, hopefully we won't have to rate things and we can finally see big erect penises in our movies.

Though, I think it makes sense to rate kids movies, still.

It's not a remake in the same way any Batman movie isn't a remake of the old Adam west show.

Overall It being successful is a good thing. It shows that good horror can do well, that well made R rated movies can make money, and that you don't have to do major summer blockbuster PG13 action shit to get a decent ROI. The movie wasn't amazing but it was definitely solid.

I think it did. It took the material and didn't shy away from it or cheapen it like the TV mini series did. The only thing it should have had was Henry Bowers saying nigger, I really wish they didn't chicken out with that. In the sequel I'm really counting on Beverly drinking liquid shit in Mrs. Kersh's apartment, instead of blood.

The only good thing about the original was Tim Curry. There's so much more going on with the other characters in this movie
>>
>>87521779
>>87521789

>>
>>87525708
>Langoliers

Hmm. A Langoliers movie with a decent budget might actually be interesting. I didn't mind the old TV movie, but for fucks sake the effects are atrocious, even for then.
>>
>>87525541
I bet well get the stand (hopefully an HBO style mini series) and Salems lot. Salems lot seems like it would translate to the big screen really well (haven't seen any of the old ones) and they could even write a sequel considering the book ending sets that up well.

Id also like to see a well done pet Sematary that captures the atmospheric slow burn horror build up.
>>
>>87524293
It would be considered a remake because an original live action movie has already been done as well as a animated adaption. So unless you plan on having a manga based anime about LotR or some other medium of entertainment to tell the same story, yeah it's a remake.
>>
>>87525708
I wish they would Pet Cemetery.

That movie was fucking scary. Ten times scarier than IT.
>>
Stephen King Cinematic Universe when?

Think about it. We get all the classics like IT, 'Salem's Lot, and others with good direction and budgets. Then, after 5-10 years of buildup, we get an ACTUAL film series of The Dark Tower, with all of the elements of the SKCU, like it should have been done.

>You'll never see a white Roland and Father Callahan on screen
>>
>>87525780
I think it's got some big potential too, and it could easily be fit into one film length I feel. I chose those two cause I think they'd try to go for those 90s miniseries next.

Langoliers has a case of the Spider I feel, where their place in popular culture now is how the majority of people laugh at them so it would be interesting seeing them work around that and try to make the Langoliers truly terrifying and move past the Meatwad Pac Mans.
>>
>>87525898
>we get an ACTUAL film series of The Dark Tower

Why a film series? It would be better as a show/mini series.
>>
>>87525825
I haven't seen he movie, but the only scary part about Pet Sematary in the book was the ending.

Salem's Lot deserves some love. Not because it's spooky, but because it's one of Stephen King's best for sure
>>
>>87521743
Who cares. If they make more quality remakes like this, no one would give a shit. The problem is most of it is pure trash and/or worse than the original in every way.

>>
>>87525970
>>Now, let's get back to talking about Bev.

I felt a little weird in the theater because it was packed full of couples. The shifting and coughing during some of those Bev scenes made the awkwardness in the theater palpable. It was like every woman there felt outdone by a 14 year old girl on screen. To be fair though, the movie was trying its damndest to make the viewer fall in love with her by the end.

That might actually make it watchable.
Eminem and Dre have been together for years and would probably have good chemistry on the set of a movie.

Now if only Eminem would stop being such a dumbfuck.

Honestly this is just depressing. A pointless and garbage reboot/re-imagining where you know exactly what is going to happen. It's depressing because hollywood will endlessly churn out reboots and capeshit until the end of time, whilst the cinephile ends up suffering.

>>
Best parts of the movie:
1) Beverly
2) Finn and children interaction
3) Final Boss Fight
4) PENNYWISE. KINO. GREAT ACTOR, GREAT COSTUME. TOP NOTCH.

Things done meh:
1) Individual horrors (like blood in the bathroom and spopy painting. Wasnt scary and wasnt really good. Good've been much better.
2) Adult characters felt underplayed. Could have been more interesting.

Overall it was good. It was clear that director tried and brought soul into it. Didn't feel like a shit flick. But a lot of things could have been much, much better. Wasn't really creepy at all by the way.

We arrived at the theater to find that the 9:40 was sold out and that they opened up two more theaters for a 9:45 and 9:50 showing. Both were packed when got in. Two things are definitely going to happen because of IT being a smash-hit success.

1) WB is going to snatch up the rights for King books that haven't had a proper film adaption like the Stand and Salem's Lot and bring them into production

2) New Line is going to bring that Nightmare on Elm Street back into production but in the line of this adaption of IT, possibly with a younger cast rather than the usual teenagers

That's a $35 million POSTED budget.
Studios usually don't like to reveal the real numbers because they're much higher.
