Light Yagami falls in love with L Lawliet.

Unable to confess, he is gifted by the shinigami Ryuk with the boy's phone number. The Desu No. Never minding the strange area code, he immediately calls him, and is overjoyed to find out that he has a crush on him as well.

But, the next day, when he recounts the previous day's confessions to the master detective, he only looks at him with a perplexed expression. After some investigation, he finds out that the boy he called is not the same boy he fell in love with. In fact, he doesn't exist in this universe at all. He is L's alternate universe counterpart, who has fallen in love with the MC's own AU self, who too is blissfully unaware of his crush.

Hijinks ensue as the two strike up a deal to give each other their darkest, most private secrets in order to equip the other with the weapons they need to conquer the heart of their other selves. While the two chase their respective loved ones, DRAMA ensues as they begin to fall in love with each other instead and question the NATURE of JUSTICE.

its a shame this movie was ruined from the get-go by autismal anime fans, it's a pretty decent flick. nothing i would go on to watch again, but seeing the unwarranted hate it's gotten has made me somewhat invested in it now.

it's genuinely good, i'd say it's far better than the anime but as a westerner who isn't developmentally stunted, i don't hold animes in very high regard.

How would you make an American adaptation of Death Note? Basically the only requirements are that the Death Note exists, there's a Light, L, and Ryuk, and it takes place in the USA.

If it wasn't an adaptation it would have been simply annoying, but with it being an adaptation I knew where they were going with the movie and I simply didn't want to witness that. Seeing that twat purifying the society is not nearly the same as the god complex light doing the same thing.

I would have either stuck to the original plot line, or make a rewrite with different characters. There's no reason to "adapt" a story if you're going to fucking butcher their characters and completely change the rules of the story.
Hell even just seeing a death note movie in a post Kira world would have been interesting
