Watching twin peaks for the first time, what should I expect?
>>87469797
A remake with Idris Elba
Reminder that David Lynch is literally a cult leader (suggestibility.org).
>>87469797
A lot of bad episodes in season 2 but if you stick through it you'll probably be glad that you did
>>87469849
Based off what netflix says the premis is I'm surprised there are even 2 seasons
>>87469797
Watch everything. Don't skip any episode no matter how bland. Pull through. It is a wild ride. Also after you finish season 2 watch the movie, Fire Walk with Me. Then jump into season 3: The Return.
if you can't handle anything unconventional and ambiguous just don't even bother
>>87469797
season 3 is a good starting postion
>>87469797
A bunch of shit that isn't going to mean anything by the time you watch the third season
>>87469904
The watch again Fire Walk with Me, to undestand the real ending of the series.
I also literally started yesterday. Weird that Susan's parents from Seinfeld are both in the show (and not even a couple)
Oh and gotta love when the president of the United States is playing Laura's dad, I literally can't think of anything else when he is on the screen

>art
>meanings, not emotions
Is Bobby this shows megachad? Only about a third of the way through episode one
>>87469968
see this right here is exactly the person who shouldn't watch it.
Twin Peaks is an experience not something you watch to get to some narratives end.
>>87470020
Mike is the man
>>87470032
Shut the fuck up you piece of shit. Let them experience the show on their own.

Finding it strange, but loving it at the same time. You will dream about it.

>>87469904
Yes I recommend this exact thing. Take breaks if you need to but watch everything.
>>87469797
destruction, insanity, death ...
... for you
Is Laura like some kind of pillar of the community? Everyone is almost too heartbroken about her death
>>87469797
Comfy times. Watch this show in the most comfy setup you can. Have some coffee, tea, whatever. Get comfy cause it's gonna be a wild ride.

No, don't wanna spoil it for you but keep watching
Don't listen to the faggots who are looking for meaning. They're still looking for a reason why their shit smells.

>falls for the meditation meme because lynch is an obsessed weirdo
>literally a cult leader
>there's a difference
>>87470317
Nope. Try again. How much did you pay for your mantra?

Agent cooper seems oddly fascinated with the trees. He just showed up
>>87470217
The local "gal that everyone wants to bang or be friends with" got murdered. This is a small town. What did you expect.
And, later in the series, there'll be other elements to explain why everyone was more or less connected with her.
>>87470416
He's a really charming quirky man. You'll probably end up loving him because of how odd he is.
>>87470434
I guess it's just weird to me cause I live in a somewhat big city.
>>87470383
this
>>87469797
First season is maybe the greatest show ever. Perfect balance between crime drama, comedy, surreal, soap elements, all with a wonderful cast and beautiful direction and cinematography.
After, it changes. You may find it good or bad, but it changes, and the balance goes down the drain and the show goes full Lynch.
>>87469847
ahahaha le funny new meme fake site

>>87470497
The original population was supposed to be smaller but changed by the network right? Like 5,000 instead of 51,000?
>>87470852
I dunno about that, but it's pretty well established in the show that it's a small town where everybody knows each other and away from everything.
Just the fact that the show takes place in the eighties but the buildings, the clothes, the mindset of the people are all very reminiscent of the fifties/sixties is something you could really see in small towns that were kind of really far away from any big city, and thus less influenced by cultural and material change.
>>87469847
what the fuck
Just finished episode one. Definitely a slow burn but definitely enjoyable. Love agent cooper so far.
Laura's father is the murderer
Why are you on 4chan asking about a series before you even watch it? Shame on you
>>87471515
My log has a message for you, a warning though you should know better already; "If you persist you WILL be spoiled, repeatedly. There has already been one attempt. Come back when you're caught up or suffer the consequences."
The character of "Bob" enters Cooper at the end of season 2.
Seriously you deserve to be spoiled
>>87469797
>Watching twin peaks for the first time, what should I expect?
Push through it. I had to force myself through the first season, started liking it by the second season, and loved it by the third.
>>87471640
I will heed the logs warnings and return after I watch. I am too invested now to risk major spoilers.
>>87470517
Where exactly is Missoula again?
>>87471640

You can expect to dive into one of the dullest franchises in the history of TV franchises. Seriously, each episode following the boy FBI agent and his pals from Twin Peaks Sheriff Department as they fight assorted villains has been indistinguishable from the others. Aside from the gloomy imagery, the series’ only consistency has been its lack of excitement and ineffective use of special effects, all to make magic unmagical, to make action seem inert.
Perhaps the die was cast when Lynch vetoed the idea of Spielberg directing an episode; he made sure the series would never be mistaken for a work of art that meant anything to anybody, just ridiculously profitable cross-promotion for his meditation. The Twin Peaks series might be anti-Christian (or not), but it’s certainly the anti-James Bond series in its refusal of wonder, beauty and excitement. No one wants to face that fact. Now, thankfully, they no longer have to.
>a-at least FWWM was good though
"No!"
The writing is dreadful; the script was terrible. As I read, I noticed that every time a character went for a fire walk with me, the author wrote instead that the character "had the fury of his own momentum".
I began marking on the back of an envelope every time that phrase was repeated. I stopped only after I had marked the envelope several dozen times. I was incredulous. Lynch's mind is so governed by cliches and dead metaphors that he has no other style of writing. Later I read a lavish, loving review of Twin Peaks by the same Chris Carter. He wrote something to the effect of, "If these kids are watching Twin Peaks at 11 or 12, then when they get older they will go on to watch X-Files." And he was quite right. He was not being ironic. When you watch "Twin Peaks" you are, in fact, trained to watch X-Files.
So let me get this straight, the only people that like this show are people who in the same breath almost unanimously shit on anyone who doesn't understand, "the deep emotions man"
I hate how people recommend this show like it's not a legit 5/10
>>87469797
A boring show considered "art" because people talk in reverse and the autistic detective drinks coffee.

>Lynch is renowned for getting his audience to feel emotion
>the only emotional part of The Return is Dougie
Where did it go so wrong?
>>87472714
I thought it had a couple of touching moments, but it was very cynical with its refusal to give the old cast some sentimental moments.
>>87472529
>>87472529
>meme spouting faggot
how tiresome
>>87472820
Cynical? I don't know what you're talking about. There were a lot of touching moments, but goddamnit after 25 years, there was no point trying to fake something and do something like it was yesterday. You would have complained anyway, saying it was not like it used to be. Everyone has changed a bit, but they're still the same characters...i think Lynch achieved something amazing, it doesn't take away the beauty of previous seasons and it adds something new, and yet still feels like it's part of the same world.
>>87472957
I'm not complaining, I loved The Return and I'm glad it tried to be something different instead of just being what we've already seen, it did a great job being something different too. It still felt like they went out of their way to not give the old cast nice moments for the most part, which I'm sure was the intention, but I also wouldn't have been against it if there were more moments like the one between Ed and Norma.
>>87472382
tfw Jim Belushi also in TM. what the fuck
>>87472280
>deep emotions
It's not even about the deep emotions (at least not for me). It's about the weird way it represents supernatural phenomena, the surreal visuals, the way you can analyse it after you've watched it, and the comedy (which is surprisingly funny and subtle).
Does anyone have a digital version of this?
>>87473534
>the way you can analyse it after you watched it
>subtle comedy
Nigga what
The comedy was anything but subtle and the plot was only piled up to look weird and deep, there wasn't anything to be analyzed. Stop licking shit just because it's weird. Surreal doesn't have to mean intellectual
>>87469826
>>87469797
10% of cool stuff, 90% boring teenage drama.
>>87469904
Watch the missing pieces while your at it.
To anyone who haven't seen any of Twin Peaks series:
NEVER, NEVER EVER WATCH SEASON 3 A.K.A. "THE RETURN"!!!
I am serious. It will spoil everything. It is a giant, cruel hoax.
>>87475840
No it won't. Season 3 is great.
>>87475376
What are you doing in this thread?
>>87475869
It is successfull in leaving the viewer with a feeling of depression, emotional pain, existentional horror. It feels like a loss of a loved one. Later you realize: you have been fooled and it is hard to accept.
So no Season 3 if you want to feel good.
>>87475984
There's no concrete interpretation of the ending, and while the last episode certainly feels depressing, I would say it's just because Lynch was creating an atmosphere of a nightmare. The ending itself could be interpreted as a happy end.
>>87476097
Curiousity killed the cat. I am warning those who can listen. You won't lose anything if you don't watch The Return, but you WILL LOSE if you watch it.
>>87469797
Something between Murder on the Orient Express and Shining, but in a comfy soap opera environment.
I would throw in a bit of Jodorowskysh symbolism and magic.
It's weird.
The Return it's weirder tho. But I wouldn't watch it without the background.
>>87469797
Laura isn't dead (spoiler)
>>87476226
You absolute madman.
>>87469897
first season is good quirky detecitve soap, second season is wacky "its magic i dont gotta explain shit" shinanigans with nothing really happening after s2 ep 9 skip straight to ep 16 trust me
>>87469847
INVINCIBLE GERMANY!
