>prequel movie
>characters looks clearly older and almost dead
Agreed. CGI Gandalf would have benefited the movie.

Gnadalf is a Semi God, Age does not matter

>prequel movie filmed decades later
>actor in the role looks younger because he was in heavy makeup in the original

It kind of works with Gandalf and Saruman because there's the old idea that Merlin ages backwards, so that happening to a wizard is okay.

he looks so tired and confused in this scene

Yes the hobbit movies were terrible in every conceivable aspect. We get it.

Then the movie would've been 100% CGI

Regardless of how dogshit the prequels were, I will never find anything more satisfying than how nicely this one casting work.
With the ridiculous amount of over-reliance on CGI in the Hobbit films, it is weird that they didn't mess around with the faces a bit.
What really threw me off was how they CGI'd Snape to look younger in that flashback scene in Harry Potter where he begs Dumbledore. It looked really off. Uncanny valley style.

I barely noticed the effect in Harry Potter. It's the way the scene is shot and lit I think, that helps it. In stills I can easily see that they pulled a cheap deaging with CG though.

Ewan was a great pick as well.
>>87399284
are there many movies that have done this?
someone make some comparisons

Really? It really bugged me personally. It just looked odd because all they did was remove any wrinkles and basically airbrush his face. Better than recasting though I guess.

Well Christopher Lee was so old already during LOTR that it didnt matter in Hobbit.
