take the red pill:
>no set design, feels empty and lifeless
>no interesting ideas for storylines and generally bad writing
>relies on gimmicks only instead
>those are unoriginal or just bad, unfortunately ("fuck you, albert", glove, andy and lucy, coordinates, riddles, ...)
>bad acting (Bell, Lynch, Horse, Robertson, Dern, ...)
>dull characters (one-dimensional at best)
>storylines and characters are introduced for no purpose
>everything is supposed to weirdly connect and make sense
>shot in digital in a way that doesn't compensate for the technology's disadvantages (looks bad)
>roadhouse scenes (out of place, badly shot, the songs, the bands, the extras, ...)
>student-tier storytelling/editing (characters are shown walking up complete sets of stairs)
>stretched out needlessly, long takes have no particular effect
>obviously delusional and/or inexperienced fanbase perceiving it as particularly meaningful, complex or "deep"
>can't compare to the original series that doesn't have those problems (coherent/complex and beautiful sets, costumes and make-up/well shot/well acted/well written/magnificent multi-dimensional characters and character relations, music, storylines and gimmicks/creates a unique athmosphere as a result, changing the world of television forever whereas "the return" neither manages to do something established really good nor to invent something new)
>extended pitch black scenes because of a lack of a competent cinematographer
>audio issues with microphone static left unaddressed because of poor sound design
>extremely poor editing with magically disappearing extras and production staff accidentally walking into frame
>somehow the best thing in tv history

Look at how fantastic the original film looks; it's charming, and has plenty of depth. Then the next, they have to filter and crop it to match the cancer 16:9 digital, and it loses any original semblance and looks terrible - even the clouds are muddled to nothing! But then the digital itself looks even worst, like spew. Defend this.

The Return manages to accomplish one thing: the absolute dread of realizing your past is behind you. You are not the same as you were when you were younger. People get cancer. There's a new sheriff in town. The younger generation is taking over. You're going to get dementia and no one will care. Laura Palmer is literally not Laura Palmer anymore.
>>
The waking world is always but a dream when the REAL world of the lodges, The Zone, and more are the constant. Time is meaningless, and events themselves are but a figment, like a dream. They get rewritten by those with access to the higher dimensions, those who can interfere with the "timeline" as it were. They were all but a dream.

If Gordon Cole can remember the unofficial story (and has likely spoke to Jeffries, knows his fate) then he has also accessed these higher dimensions like Cooper and Laura and therefore his earpieces have always been key.

"Digital" is cancer - it exists solely because it's cheap and convenient, which again adds to its cheapness to shoot on. Even the best current day digital looks worst than 16mm film transfers from film shot 60 years ago - an embarrassment. You must be a millenial twerp to think otherwise.

Mrs. Tremond be casting the "wake up" spell on Laura since she got listen-to-the-soundsed hard and became Carrie Paige in the altered reality, having lost the first 17+ years of her life to Judy's hex presumably. A new "dream", a new reality because of time interference. Twin Peaks is as it would have been had Laura phased out and Leo and Jacques got in a fight over Ronette.

Well?
>>
>tfw I genuinely though every little bit of Parts 1-16 were 10/10

>tfw 17 and 18 completely ruined them

I'm okay with the events in episode 18 themselves. It's the way that so much of what we saw this season was rendered irrelevant.

My biggest issue, though, is why couldn't we have seen Freddy's story?! With all the other scenes we had outside of Twin Peaks, how hard could it have been to introduce us to Freddy, a VERY important and central character, earlier on? Having him just explain his entire story in a monologue fairly close to the end removed all weight and suspense. That's THE one thing I simply can't come up with an excuse for. Unless it's some ironic rip on modern storytelling or anime.

I honestly think most people are not upset with the actual ending, but that they had to sit through some painfully long takes to get there.

People loved episode 8. It made no sense, but it was incredibly entertaining.

If episode 18 had cut the sex scene and driving in silence scenes in half, and replaced it with fucked up Audrey white room shit and crazy log shenanigans, all culminating in Cooper asking what year it is, it'd be pretty universally hailed as a masterpiece.

I had a dream last night where I was masturbating. A voice of someone I don't know but recognised immediately anyway somehow told me that I should not worry since he was aware of it all, of everything. Then I woke up and I was masturbating. The switch from dream to reality happened so smoothly that if it weren't for the fact that everything is clear and not vague, I'd be willing to believe that I was still dreaming
If I really am the dreamer, what does all this then mean?

>Season 3 ends on an unsolved puzzle box but you are basically called an idiot and slapped in the face if you cared about the characters and their stories
I don't get it, is Lynch spiteful thowards the audience or the old producers who forced him to reveal the murder, and wanted to show them what it could have been before taking it away? Because he's always been vocal about how the murder of Laura wasn't meant to be solved because it was the gateway to all these other stories, not just for its own sake. While season 3 ends on an unsolved mistery, but it isn't gateway to anything, in fact all the characters lives are rewritten and what we've seen of them is rendered meaningless

mostly because of sentimentality rather than pragmatic/aesthetic reasons

film DOES look different than digital, but most of those differences are actually imperfections - e.g. grain, dust, artifacts, poor performance in low light, slightly weaker dynamic range, unrealistic color rendition.

some people may prefer those imperfections, just like people prefer the imperfections of vinyl, but digital at this point is objectively superior from a measurable standpoint. And I think, depending on the desired aesthetic obviously, it usually looks better.

interestingly though there are only two digital cameras I'd consider worthwhile. Arri Alexa and Varicam S35. DSLRs aren't good enough, RED isn't good enough, phones certainly aren't good enough. So it's still an expensive medium.

No, him standing there silently behind James doesn't count. We should have seen just a little of his life in londontown and supernatural things happening to him as long as we're seeing all these other unrelated people.

I subscribe to the theory that it is not a "bad end" for Cooper. I think Lynch is trying to make it seem that way though.

Yes. And it ended that way because they were banking on another season. Now that they got one and they are probably aware it's not very likely they get another one, yes, I did expect a bit of closure and a sense of catharsis rather than another mostly open ending. Not an explanation, mind you. But closure. At least for Cooper.

This whole time we've been watching Dougie, we didn't really understand what it's like to be lost and confused.

But the final scene works so well as a culmination because we finally understand what it feels like to be totally lost, unable to know who is who or even what year it is.

Didn't seem like he was madly in love to me. I got the impression that he cared deeply about her as a friend, but that was all, whereas she was the one that was in love with Cooper.

The sex was irrelevant to this too because it "had" to happen for them both to cross over. Also, who would he ask about Annie?

They want attention. Also they delude themselves into thinking they'll change people's opinion by spamming the same post 20 times a day. For them (You)s= validation, as vapid as this sounds. They delude themselves into thinking they're oh so smart for trolling or "calling out" (but never debating) people they don't agree with, when in reality they're a mild annoyance to anonymous users on a chinese cartoon forum. Then they turn around and giggle to themselves, justifying this childish behavior as something clever when in reality they're just a miniscule pest, like a fly or mosquito.

If you view 17 as the actual end and 18 as some hypothetical epilogue, it's not so bad. Many shows work their seasons like that, such as Sopranos.

I'm just having a conversation, it wasn't meant as an attack to you, I replied to you because you brought up season 4
I was interested in a season 3 because they had stories to wrap up, s3 taught us that stories and characters are meaningless in the dreamscape because everything can be changed from the ground up into something completely different. So I have no real interest in watching a season 4 or 5 because it clearly won't feature an ending, and twin peaks is for all intents and porpouses over now that the events of the first 48 hours of the show have been erased from existance altogether
I can see where people are coming from when they say that this ending is pretty conclusive

Listen again. You can faintly hear "Laura".

IIRC in Secret Diary Laura says she went to Harold's and forced herself on him, I don't think they actually had sex but she says she was filled with guilt making him feel unsafe in his own home

Because Coop shows up right near the beginning of the show. And he doesn't just appear in the background, we immediately start learning his beliefs and idiosyncracies. I'm talking simple 101 stuff here.

I'll bite, but I'd like you to back that argument up if you can. The whole show, and Part 8 in particular seems to highlight the duality of good and evil.

It would just be a show with Cooper, Cole, and Jeffries trying to thwart Judy, because all of the other charcters' plot lines have been wrapped up and are irrelevant to the story now. It probably wouldn't be all that entertaining tbqh.

I agree with the first part, I was responding to the LOST part

>>87386007
Right, it IS about good and evil. But not in a stereotypical Main Hero defeats Main Villain. It's more of good guys win against bad guys. The Fireman sent Laura to earth, and then talked to Coop/Freddy/Andy in order to help defeat the bad guys. They're all cogs in a plan, not one superhero built up to save the day.

While both are fantastic actors, pic related being the final shot of the series, as well as one of the first, doesn't really set up for things going forwards. If anything, it'd be a loop of Coop perpetually fucking up. If he hasn't already fucked everything up beyond repair, that is

That's why it's likable, Freddie's kinda like the town itself, he's pretty normal and unnoteworthy on the surface but he has a lot going on underneath. His whole recounting of the Fireman incident right after you have the Andy scene at Jack Rabbit's Palace creates a contrast that makes Freddie's story just seem like a tall tale, something in life you know happened but you can't explain.

I'm not really sure what you mean by that first sentence, but yes, everyone in Twin Peaks largely wanted to use Laura for sex first and for most. Notice how she largely dresses in conservative clothing, sexuality is projected onto her by the men of the town her whole life.

desu I'd be fine with Lynch releasing another series that's related (or not) with Twin Peaks.
Hell, he could release Ronnie Rocket, but have Dale Cooper in it, and I'd be fine with that. One of the many Dales trying to unravel and fix reality. Of course, it's easy to taint the series if you choose to attach it like that.

Alternatively, another prequel movie / series would be nice. I want to see more Chet Desmond.

COOPER : DOUGIE :: LAURA : CARRIE

We never see Kyle Maclachlan credited as two different characters, because the credits always start with him.

Why do people care so much about Audrey? She's the least important character in Twin Peaks.

She's a pretty iconic character m8e. Love interest of main character and tried to assist in the investigation. Pretty big side character/plot in the original series.
More people have emotional investment in her than in Laura Palmer.

i like to think it doesn't work like that. coop did said he hoped to see the whole gang again one day. he looked unsure but i don't think it's because that whole reality will be erased. in a way... maybe you are right and this is the ultimate lynchpill: it's a story after all. they kind of broke the 4th wall a few times referencing to the show itself and it's place in culture, the fact that its been 25 years and so on ... twin peaks becoming kind of a cultural phenomenon , a tv institution who influenced a bunch of shows, 3rd seasons featuring an endless line of hipsters who must have beg like crazy to get in there, etc so by mock-erasing it all... it put things in perspective and maybe free some minds, clear the way for the future for something new.
