Did Fletcher have a point?
Yes, he was abusive. No question.
But even if it's not jazz, has music declined simply due to the acceptance of mediocrity?
No and it's proven by education experts that his methods are among the worst ways to teach skills to a student. Technical music will always be esoteric

So was it just a shit message by the film overall?
Or maybe just a Black Swan ripoff?

>acceptance of mediocrity
Who the fuck are you?

kek
>>87381513
No, the message of the film isn't that Fletcher's teaching style was right in the end or anything like that. I don't know what you're talking about.

so what was the message?

Why are music teachers so unstable?
I have had six different music teachers throughout my school career and all of them were middle aged men with severe, I mean fucking severe, anger issues. All divorced, grouchy, constantly picking favorites and screaming more than any other teachers in any subject combined.
You can't say it's because the school I went to hired shitty teachers, because I went to multiple schools across the country - some good, some bad, but they all had this crazy music teacher. The only one who wasn't batshit insane was one who got busted for a bunch of crazy shit and fired.

There is no message. It was a shit movie. Logical narrative is the opposite of art and only surreal films are worth watching or thinking about. What happened happened. Fletcher abused Neiman and Neiman accepts it because his entire self-esteem is centered around his ability to drum - and he's too stupid to realize he doesn't need Fletcher at all.

Same. No idea why. My drum coach used to blast my fingers with aluminum drum sticks and my mallets teacher would throw shit at me and scream his ass off all the time. Psycho sicilian fuck.

I had one music teacher in my life and I agree, I don't remember much but I remember him being a fucking asshole
