fag that has never taken one lesson in film or script writing here. I always hear people talk about how the golden rule of cinema is "show don't tell", how true is this?

Sneed?

why are you doing this?
Doesn't matter if you're gonna make a film for stupid people.

This makes no sense.
Then when they're at the table read, how are they supposed to know if the script is any good if they told, and didn't show?

in a medium whose greatest most oustanding quality is the ability to display moving pictures, your movie would always benefit from showing what you'd like the audience to understand rather than telling. OR else it could be a book, or a radio play, or a song.

you can show and not tell in a book as well.
It's harder, but it happens. A description like...
He ran his fingers along the scar the giant left on the plaster wall.
"You better hope you see him before he sees you".
If it's not self evident, you don't understand film yet. Or art in general. It's all about using the medium to its fullest.
Don't just mindlessly follow rules.
