Why was Coop confused when reading the note where Diane refers to themselves as Richard and Linda? They both passed through the same way, so why would Diane know something Coop doesn't?

HA! LIGHTEN UP ALBERT, IT'S A JOKE. DO I HAVE TO SPELL IT OUT FOR YOU? J-O-K-E. IF YOU DON'T LIKE THAT, TRY THIS ONE ON FOR SIZE, I'M TELLING YOU, IT'S A REAL RIB TICKLER. To the plebs:

The whole point of the ending was that no time travel, alternate time line, good vs evil spirits or a hero (like Dale Cooper) can undo the horror and the evil that Laura Palmer experienced.

The series has always been about her character and her suffering and how people were affected by it. David Lynch created an entire movie about it and this is why he never intended to reveal who killed her in the original series. Who killed Laura Palmer is irrelevant. The whole Black Lodge and other supernatural elements is irrelevant.

What matters is that Laura Palmer suffered horribly and no matter how much time has passed or how hard they tried to save her, she will always remember and she will always suffer

I'm thinking it's this. Even as someone else, she knew what had happened to her.

What I'm left wondering though is Cooper's progression from the ending of 17 to this, though. What was the deal with him and Diane? And why when he woke up was he in another motel and car? What about Richard and Linda?

There might be forces at work from deep dimensional space, or from the future…or are these one in the same? Think of the events that could have splintered time? The things that could have laid the seed for a starting point for this development? Perhaps technological innovations or the assassination of President Kennedy?

for the guys that are saying that "coop" fucked up trying to save laura and he created a crack in reality with that

Remember that coop got out of the red room and when to 430 mile and that he knew that after passing that they would probably be someone else. So, he did know what they were doing

Also the sex between coop and Diane in the motel was filled with sadness and resignatión, It was like something they were forced to do so the things could work in a certain way

This would be 10/10 because Lynch would emphasize Frank's insanity which is something that the other movies glossed over. The Punisher played Russian Roulette alone in the sewer almost every night while talking to himself. He'd also do the ultra-violence very well. A+ choice for director 2bh

The FWWM where Laura almost escapes with James, where her entire character is poured out for us all to see, but she knows she can't bring James into a world of stuff he won't understand, so she goes off into the woods to face her fate...that hurts, it makes by belly feel light everytime I see it. And here, Coop managed to get through, to reach her in that moment, which is the denouement of Laura, she finally had hope in her voice...and she was snatched away from us again, so cruelly by supernatural forces outside of anyone's control...and then we fade into Julie Cruz, telling us that she's gone, again.

That was so painful, but it was kino. Tragedy kino.

In that moment, I realized, nothing will bring Laura back. True kino.

Also Judy is Laura's mother
>>
>>87287097

Coop is the only one with the memories of the old reality. Well except for Gordon.

People confused by the end or think there's plot inconsistencies should really watch more anime. You can see Lynch took inspiration from the likes of Angel Beats and Charlotte. Both heavily criticized for doing the exact same thing Twin Peaks did but it really does all fit together well if you're of an high IQ enough to understand and appreciate this type of story.

Probably, 18 was as clear as can be for season bait. Ep 17 was a very clear end to almost all major plotlines with some open-ness. 18 dredges up a ton of new shit, is full of filler(I say this lightly) scenes of driving, unneeded(if effective) sex scenes and an extremely clear cliffhanger.
>>
>>87287105
Laura, I've said this before, and I'll say it again, because I worry about you. We've been friends for a long time, and God knows the stuff we've been through - and so do you. You've always cultivated that free spirit, that weird way you have to do things, and I respect that. I don't often meddle in your life, because I know that you can handle your own problems in your own way. So when I come to you talking in a serious manner like this, you're one to know that the situation is not like it usually is. And both of us know pretty well what this is about, don't we?... Yeah, we do. That garmonbozia. You're not going easy on it, Laura, and it worries me, because anything can happen right now. You're not your usual you, you're acting strange, and I don't know what else to do. I'm reaching to you personnally, because we're both adults, and have a long history together. We both care about each other, and know when it's time to ask each other politely - as I am asking you at the momment - to go EASY. Taking it easy is not an easy thing, if you get me. You probably do, you're a smart gal. Always have been... But you're letting yourself go, and it's getting to everyone of us. People are often asking "is she going to take it easy on the garmonbozia?". Because, man, this is getting really out of hand. So, I'll say this once more, and it's because of everything we have with each other, and I believe I can honestly come to you and say it: Laura.... please, buddy..... easy on the garmonbozia.

Coop slowly realizing he's fucked up enormously, he doesn't even know what year it is, how he's fallen into another weird wormhole like Jeffries did all those years ago, and then Laura suddenly realizing that the world she is in is a complete fabrication and the real thing underneath it is a terrifying reality of suffering and her own murder and non-existence and then that comes to life as the bottom drops out of the house and their entire existence slides away into blackness

Film v digital

Lynch swore that you can only do film, he said digital is grotesque. Then he ran out of money, filmed Inland Empire on a Game Boy Camera, and realized it was pure inspiration and now true art can only be done on creepy cheap-looking digital and film is dead

Just like he said he could never do television again and would never go back to directing anything again, and Twin Peaks was dead as a doornail, and product placement disqualifies you from being an artist.

Just like he said he loves the world of Twin Peaks and was excited to revisit it, then spent 18 hours telling us how much he fucking hates it and wishes he was never involved in it

Basically Lynch has strong opinions and is a hateful man. But yeah he loves digital now because it makes his art look more hateful and not comfy

This fake ending for plebs Lynch prepared felt so wacky that after seeing the real ending of episode 18 i felt a bit ashamed of me for liking the season because the rest of the stuff with Dougie , the gloved man and the mitchum brothers was really childish and naive in comparison. Maybe ashamed is not the word , its more like that stuff was put in there just to move the plot forward just to entertain me.

The shot of pic related was the "courtain call" Coop talked about, It really was a dream, It was an act. Episode 18 was the opposite, going back to real world after that, the realization that coop, Laura, and the palmer house doesn't exist anymore after that, after the ending.

I will try to put It into words better yesterday, its 7am here and i really have to sleep now, hope at least one anon can understand what i meant

People wanted David Lynch, they got David Lynch.

Remember that originally David Lynch was going to stay out of directing this until Showtime gave him extra cash or whatever for his involvement.

All the padding and filler blame goes on Showtime's shoulders for not ordering just 8 to 13 max episodes. And I liked and loved a lot of season 3 but, to those of you who didn't like or even hated maybe you should also be mad at Showtime for getting David Lynch involved as director? Like you probably would have gotten what you wanted if Frost and Lynch had just been writing.

My guess is Lynch writing would have = Frost has more control over the story. Lynch directing = Lynch has more control over the story. We are along ways away from Blue Velvet, 90's Twin Peaks Lynch. This is post-Inland Empire Lynch.. we pretty much got what we should have expected from a fucking 18 episode Twin Peaks revival with every single episode directed by David Lynch in the year 2017.

It was a floor plan of the tea kettle. The planet was Jeffries looking around.
>>
I said it before and I'll say it again. The real purpose of the ending is to show you that reality (our reality) is a dream. The dreamer is the collective consciousness and Judy is the manifestation of evil in that consciousness. Cooper entered the consciousness and essentially ascended to a higher plane of reality. Whether that is "good" or not is probably impossible to know. It seems likely it might be very nightmarish but who knows for certain. Maybe it is only because Judy is in control of that domain for now.

The white horse, like JUDY'S and the Tremond/Chelfont family names, is one of the various echoes of the other world (and the Lodge dimension) that are dotted around Carrie's world. Because that is literally the point of stories, television and movies aren't meant to be reflections of real life, they're meant to be stories that have clearly defined bounds, with beginning and ending. Lynch even agrees to this as shown by his clear and direct beginning of this story as well as the ending that everyone wanted in episode 17.
>>

I mostly enjoyed the filler parts in Season 3. I think they were wonderful. My favorite part of this finale was the scene at the door. It was both humorous and actually important to the plot. The diner scene was great too. I honestly think Season 3 is his best work yet. I didn't care for the prequel movie. I cared for the missing pieces. I didn't care for the backwards talking after it had been shown a couple of times already. It got old in season 2.

I don't really think it was a "dream", per se. I would look at it more as a fabricated trajectory. Who is to say that it is any less real than the normal Twin Peaks timeline? Laura didn't "wake up", she was reminded of her other life, Coop was able to forge the connection by simply remembering. Even if it is a dream--is a dream that feels so real that it affects you on a deep level and convinces you that it is not a fabrication a false experience? Like it never happened? No, there is only experience for the individual. That is all that matters for the singular person. Convincing dreams, convincing falsehoods might as well be real.

The dream theme, while being an assertion by itself, is setup to distract you from subtext about Laura who in a very roundabout way is what Season 3 ended up being about.

Am I crazy or does anybody agree with me. In the scene in part 18 where Cooper and Carrie/Laura are walking up the steps to the Palmer household, there's a sound in the background that sounds like something being stabbed, presumably fabric or paper. Yeah, it would be absurd if they somehow overcame all the powers of the lodge. That is a battle beyond human ability. We see how they're pawns in it. Post yfw David Lynch reveals the final thirty seconds of 18 that never aired, which begins as Laura's scream morphs into the scream of Jerry Horne, who wakes up in an alarmed state in his messy bed. Twin Peaks was different from the rest of Lynch's catalogue in that it was more well rounded and clearly not just in Lynch's control, now it's just a Lynch project with all his friend's in cameo roles.

I'm not entirely convinced that they would never revisit the old reality, it's not clear what kind of influence or presence Judy etc. even have in the current one and it's still the fundamental source of Laura/Carrie.
>>
>>87288368
>BOB got defeated, this was Laura's wish since childhood
>Bad Cooper got killed so Cooper is free.

There goes the entire series two main antagonist dead, how is this not an ending. They could had Laura's soul being put to rest along with Leland's and Sarah's (I know she's still alive but she's clearly depresses) due to BOB finally being defeated but they didn't.

Judy was barely even a real plot element, her whole integration with Sarah was so poorly executed that it didn't even have a culmination in the series finale, and it wasn't a "plot point" until this season.
>>
>prevents Laura's murder
>prevents himself from ever coming to Twin Peaks in the first place
>therefore, Bob/Leland is never eliminated as a problem
>Laura gets ruthlessly raped and murdered again

Dale Cooper everyone
>>
>>87288134
>Remember that originally David Lynch was going to stay out of directing this until Showtime gave him extra cash or whatever for his involvement.

You have everything completely reversed. Are you retarded? They tried to get rid of him.
>>
>>87287618
does that's mean it was the present? Not the past or future?
>>
>>87288145
But that's all entertainment is. It's all what we make of it. Things don't need to make sense. Or even be what we interpreted from them.
>>
Is Judy the same entity as "the mother" ? What was the box about ? What was the point of Becky's/drug addict arc ? Also if the road house is actually a dream why does the fight with Jame and chav mate take place in here ?
>>
>>87288669
>>87288669
I agree with you but I give the idea slightly more credit because it was thematically hinted at through the other Vedic stuff in the show. The entire Dougie story has dharma and karma play a very large role in how things go.
>>
>>87288975
This was exactly what he was supposed to do, blame the fireman for the current predicament. Ep 18 is a fantastic season end, fucking horrible series end.
>>
>>87288724
I didn't see jack bauer in this season.
>>
>>87288517
>>87288517
Nothing, what happened to Annie? or Donna? Lynch's obviously making this up as he goes.
>>
The whole premise comes down to not trying to "fix" complex issues. You will never, ever completely win.
>>
>>87287412
Because we finally got the "real" Coop and Diane back together near the end of episode 17, and episode 18 has them reunite again and immediately ask each other if they're "real," and while they both say they are, it's obvious that they're both acting strangely emotionless, closer to their cloned counterparts than their true personalities. At this point in the series, you want them to be real, but you know that something bad is happening. Seeing another Diane reaffirms the sick feeling that something is wrong without actually giving you a definitive answer of what's happening to them.
>>
>>87288975
What a piece of shit
I hate Cooper AND Kyle
>>
>>87288457
He was also part-Richard. Of course he was out of character >>87288457
>>
>>87289091
But that's just weak though. There's plenty of stories with multiple endings that do have a best ending. If you can't write an ending that fixes every issue you're just a bad writer. The point of stories with multiple endings is to have a best ending. It is to have your character suffer.
>>
>>87288669
The execution was trash, it wasn't even really focused until the story started winding down. Nearly all of the new plot lines were useless, this season could have just been a 3 hour movie.
>>
>>87287166
To be honest, I think Lynch is one of the only people in the world that ever cared about Laura's character. Everyone else that has ever watched the show has always seen Laura as the backdrop for the actual show.
>>
>>87289089
>Annie
No answer, probably just never liked how she was forced onto the show so he's passive-aggressively retconning her. Diane is Cooper's waifu now.
>Donna
Everyone hates LFB, they're all pretending Donna never existed. Even in the first episode, they're creating a relationship between Shelly and James because they don't want to bring back Donna.
>>
>>87287903
He was just trying to prolong his and BOB's presence on Earth. He worked to arrange the Cooper/Dougie stuff first, and I guess his next goal was to eliminate any possible opposing force (such as the White Lodge).
>>
Why does the Arm repeat the phrase Audrey used a few episodes back?
>>
>>87289301
I think he's concerned about which "story"/timeline he's supposed to be dealing with now
>>
>>87287542
They might not even fucking exist
>>
>>87289358
Then why show them in Part 18 after Cooper's time travel?
Answer: Because there was no altering of any timeline.

This was some powerful kino. I'll be thinking about it for the rest of my life which is about 20 minutes.

Loved when one tap chap snapped Bobs Gregory.
>>
>>87289051
Laura had to exist. She was planted there as a sacrifice to stop Bob. The White Lodge couldn't directly touch Bob. They also couldn't communicate directly with the ground crew (Coop, etc.) and call for an assassination. Coop was so fixated on saving Laura and preventing her death that he didn't realize the best solution was to take Leland out in the past. He was blinded by his goodwill.

why did the tremonds/chalfont's take over the house?

That's from the movie though.

It's a completely different universe. They didn't buy the house from Sarah Palmer. There never was a Sarah Palmer. Or a Laura Palmer. Or a Leland. It's a completely different universe with different people.

The presence of Tremonds/Chalfonts are a mark of the Black Lodge. Likely nothing more to it than that.

Laura was born the daughter of Leland, who would become the vehicle for Bob. Laura was a lure for Bob, something he couldn't resist trying to corrupt, but also something impossible to corrupt. She allowed herself to be killed rather than be taken over by him. Her death then started the chain of events that led to the discovery and eventual defeat of Bob.

It doesn't matter. The assertion that "if it feels real it is real" was a big theme in this season. The tulpas represented the idea that it if you and everyone else are convinced that you're the real deal it doesn't matter. Dougie or Cooper or whoever returning home to the family was another tulpa that would bring joy to his their home and fulfill the home, and it doesn't matter if it is fake. The tulpas were barely not real.

>>87289412
Good point. She was placed there, Laura, by them as a counter. When bob went so did she.

So how the heck did cooper find Laura in Odessa

You're very wrong. FWWM is held in extremely high esteem by the fanbase because of Laura's character and Sheryl Lee's performance.
>>

Notice how the camera only comes in close after she's turned around?
It's to hide the wrinkles better, and because editing them out is expensive.

My only complaint about the episode was that it was hard not to get absorbed in the technical details of this. I was constantly wondering how they did it instead of enjoying the ride.

"We live in a dream" is different than "it was all a dream." The latter is a copout, the former is a very old theosophical idea that isn't trying to cheapen any experience or say one thing is better than another.

The thing about this show is that you have to remember that Cooper has a special connection with the other planes (the lodges, etc). He is able to solve issues by using very subtle magical ability/intuition into how the spirit planes operate. If you remember the scene in the original running where Albert is speaking to someone and says something along the lines of "let him go, Coop follows a strange path and sometimes you have to see where it goes". He enters the alternative dream world or whatever and knows he is looking for Laura. He sees a diner with Judy in the name. He knows that Judy is somehow behind all of this. He also knows that it is a fabrication of sorts and that it's setup. It's a "mark" of it being such so he goes in, just on one of the hunches he uses. He had some kind of further insight into how the place works and immediately knows that Laura is a worker there. There is no real logic behind how he knew. He just knows because he was able to maintain his identity to the other reality in combination with his natural ability for spiritual insight. It's Twin Peaks, it's magic, I don't think there is a more logical reason beyond that.
>>
Twin Peaks season 4 should now actually be two separate seasons running in tandem, one taking place in the "classic" Twin Peaks world with Frost directing, and another in the "new" world with Lynch directing.
