I have a question

I make clocks, mainly of scifi things because they sell well. I want to do a DS9 one. It's going to be the station with a ship one the end of each hand, flying around . Out of the Defiant, a Cardassian Keldon class, a Bajoran Antares class or a Jem'Hadar battlecruiser which two should I do? Or something else maybe?

Trek under his watch did a piss poor job of showing that and communicating it to the audience, I'd say, given how something like In The Pale Moonlight gets dragged over the coals for betraying Gene's vision.

In The Pale Moonlight absolutely makes a great case for a good leader letting people die for the greater good.

Then there's TNG with the bridge crew in the meeting room asking themselves whether they have the right to interfere in the plan of some "higher power" that "wants" a pre-warp civilization to die of some natural disaster the Enterprise could easily avert and would avert if only the planet's population had passed the magical threshold of being warp-capable, and they smugly suck each other's dicks for how deep they're being at that moment . . .

Only to smugly suck each other's dicks for defying a genuine higher power whenever Q shows up.

>>
>>87242251
Voyager isn't terrible, it's just boring so people only remember the really bad episodes (of which there are a few)

Voy is exactly that terrible except for a few rare moments. ENT is.... weird. Every season is a completely different themed show. It's quality but it's just like a disney knockoff of star trek in season 1, season 3 is like hardcore off the rails war stuff?

I don't even know what to think of ENT as a whole. Individual seasons are their own thing.
>>
>>87242251
You should have watched VOY earlier in the cycle. It's more tolerable if you're just wanting uniform feels and adopt the characters as your own. Get little Janeway and Paris action figures....

you know.
>>
How come with Voyager, the writers just... stopped giving a shit?
>>
>>87242135
But its a prequel to ToS and they confirm Kirk was the first to go to the mirror universe.
>>
>>87242251
Voyager has its moments, but overall it is garbage. Watch it ironically. Once a season there is an episode about the EMH, and those are six-out-of-seven fantastic. And the one that isn't fantastic is just on the weaker side of great.

Enterprise is the thing you're going to have to chew broken glass while watching. It meanders trying to find its footing, then it does and it just gets tedious. There are some strong characters here, too, but nothing standoutish like the doctor on Voyager.
>>
>>87242318
Popular conjecture is that the writers on DS9 were fans and liked their job, whereas the Voyager writers thought they were better than some crappy scifi show and wrote like they felt

>>
>>87242318
The saw what DS9 was doing and while it was critically acclaimed, it took investment to get involved. I'd re-lived this paradigm recently, inviting my wife to watch it. The first two seasons are slogs, but once it picks up it stays up. We're just now in Season 4 (or 5...?) and she's way, way into it. Loves it, even. But every other episode before Way of the Warrior is a stumbling block.

The producers wanted the writers of Voyager to make every episode a reasonable place to pick up the series. This meant that the every episode ends exactly where the last one ended: On their way home. The reset button was a way to always have it be the first episode.

And the series ends by literally undoing its own logical ending. Out of nowhere.
>>
>>87242378

Most people regard Voyager far higher than Enterprise. Aside from general prequel backlash, Voyager had more recognizable and iconic characters.
The fact is, Enterprise is just Voyager's production crew, season 8, just a new cast and setting, and it continues the mistakes Voyager made

Bashir makes a clone and it adds a lot of character to Bashir at an early stage in DS9. It's quite clear Bashir knows what he has a good bit before its visually obvious he's getting a clone, and it makes Bashir seem cavalier in medicine and science.

Anyone who attempts this argument is making a fool of themselves, because it shows that they don't really understand the episode. To interfere with a planet's evolutionary process is completely against Starfleet/The Federation's ideals. The dilemma presented is multi-faceted because it's a case of both Genetic Modification and introducing advanced technology to an undeveloped civilization. Humans refuse to tamper with biological evolution because it is a corruption of natural selection that can lead to unforeseen consequences. Likewise, introducing advanced technology to an underdeveloped civilization can lead to destructive ends. It was an incredibly hard call for Archer, who naturally wants to save people, but ultimately he made the right decision to not try and play God by altering the course of natural selection and of a civilization's development.

I watched it as it aired, then got mad when they had them steal components from an alien ship they needed. I stopped watching entirely it made me so mad, I couldn't accept "the good guys" doing that.

I watched the entire series two years ago or so and was able to get past that and enjoyed it for what it was. I love Star Trek, it's a shame we've had none for so long other than the movie reboots which aren't the same thing.

Poor little Voyager. It needs protection. I think we should all riot in the streets, burn trash cans, and beat up innocent people until our demands are met to provide Voyager with an affirmative action program to force people to like it, and agree to pay for tons of free gibs.

Voyager had a great look and a great cast. It would've been a good show had there been less of the following:

>Rick Berman

I don't even think Brandon Braga was all that bad, at least he kept the series alive with his liberated Borg idea.

Yet another sad victim of garbage trek addiction. You were fed garbage trek for so very long, that when you were finally served a bit of Enterprise, which is actually the Prime Rib of Star Trek, your acquired taste for garbage forced you to spit it out as if it were poison.

How very unfortunate for you.

ENT:
Great pilot episode, then a whole bunch of nothing and fairly good fourth season.

VOY:
Mixed bag altogether. Personally I have fond memories of the series, but more objectively: Some really good TNG style episodes – what with the whole "Strange New Worlds"-thing (6x02 "Blink of an Eye" is downright transcendent) – but then there are also some weak-ass character drama episodes (really, did ANYONE ever care about Chakotay- or B'Elanna-centered episodes??), Sarah Silverman makes an appearance, then Seven of Nine comes along (despite the T'n'A-factor she was actually a rather interesting character) and you'll have to decide for yourself whether you find it in your heart to forgive the series for nerfing the Borg.

Yes. And I'd say that was one of the main reasons why ENT failed.
Some folks got upset about Alice Eve's unnecessary underwear scene in STID ... they had obviously never watched ENT (I honestly hated those decon chamber scenes: Hey guys, let's just waste some minutes of this episode on getting undressed and oiled-up – they came across as a cheap shot even when I was just a teen)
>>
>>87245126
Well, I honestly just thought she was a likeable characer and served well as a reminder of the fact that it was the pre-TOS era and the notion that "spaceflight's no biggie" wasn't yet commonplace. The fact that she was cute definitely helped matters though.
Of course, her character was wasted over the course of the series (as sadly typical for Trek) and not only was she basically no longer needed as a xenolinguist, but also her whole "I'm gonna piss myself every time the ship rocks"-schtick was forgotten after just two or three episodes.
