Wasn't this Tony Scott?
Since we're talking about Ridley in this thread, why did the engineers want to go back to Earth and wipe us out after THEY created us?
Now, the movie implies that we were created simply because the engineers could. (Which David says to Dr. Holloway during their conversation.)
But the reason they changed their mind is because... They fucked up. Yup that's it, they messed up. How?
In the beginning, during the creation scene, the Engineer drinks the black fluid that kills him and decomposes him as he falls down the waterfall, hence creating life on earth. But, before we see HIM fall down the waterfall, we get one very important shot. A shot of what remains of the black liquid going down the waterfall. It was not supposed to fall down there with him. So actually only one engineer messed up, but it was a pretty big mistake (big things have small beginnings). It contaminated and corrupted the DNA or cells, or something along those lines ever so slightly. So instead of creating the "pure" beings that they wanted, they created... Well... Us. Selfish, arrogant, violent, and stupid. Which are all shown throughout this movie.
