Why do films look so fake today? It's like it's all a CGI mess of digital shit.
>>
>>87121849
Jesus christ is this real?
>>
Digital over film maybe?
>>
>>87121915
Sadly yes. Spider-Man today is pure CGI
>>
>>87121849
Top one looks like some power ranger cosplay shit
>>
I dont think the bottom looks fake, at times he does but there he looks just as real as the girl behind him. The lighting is exact and the fabric on the suit is visible unlike in the obviously cgi shots. I cant stand how you guys ignore the absolutely abysmal shots of Raimi spider-man any time he has to do something fast its shitty cgi too. And even with that, his movement still comes off as slow. It did get better by Spider-Man 3 though. But of course, this is a shitposting thread so raimi cocksuckers will reply and tell me how stupid I am and how incredible Spider-Man 2 is.

>>87122019
He's not looking for an answer, just a soapbox of people who agree.
>>
>>87121849
Ok how does that make Homecoming a bad movie? A specific special effect in a specific frame is just one aspect of a fun.
>>
>>87122061
It's a superhero movie

>>87122091
You are using soapbox wrong.

The difference is that the Raimi films are from the early 2000s and some of the CGI looks like garbage. This movie came out recently, and there are really no excuses.
>>
You answered your own question, good thread.
>>
>>87122019
No digital vs film is a meme. It doesn't excuse how poor this movies looks.
>>
>>87122145
No excuses for what? It has the smaller budget and it still ends up doing Spider-Man better than Maguire's.

So its films in general and not just films "today". Im glad we agree. I too anticipate the day we can have spider-man moving like a comic character with all practical effects and seemless photo realistic cgi.
>>
>>87121849
Why does Spider-Man in that shot need to be CGI?

>>87122267
You stand on a soapbox to preach to others. A soapbox of other people doesn't make sense.

You wanted to say something like a circlejerk or echo chamber.
>>
Its the Marvel method: shoot it fast, shoot it cheap.
The best evidence for this is that Avengers and Godzilla had the same cinematographer. Yet one looks like shit and the other is gorgeous.

>>87121849
bottom one looks a million times better desu

I always thought that Raimi's suit looked too good for Peter to afford. It had all those aesthetic details which were cool but had no practical use in superheroing.
>>
>>87122495
this is true, but they needed a good looking edgier suit for people to take it seriously

Wow, I thought tons of that stuff was practical and now I feel like a brainlet
>>
>>87121849

The real answer is that studios got really lazy with practical effects and building huge sets when it can all be done with a green screen and a Chinese kid on his MacBook.

I'm having a hard time not clearing this movie for extra hard drive space. Is it really worth watching /tv/? And by that I mean how much screen time does Patrick Stewart get?
>>
>>87122567
>even his fucking hair was cgi
Did any of these people even act in the movie or is it literally all CGI? I mean holy fuck

>>87123213
He's integral to the plot and is there for most of the movie, he is amazing in it and it's really worth watching
>>
Marvel makes like 4 movies a year, all with the same plot and characters. They don't have the time to shoot on location or looking for actual directors. They follow the Lifetime system with a hundred times more budget and about ten times better production values
>>
>>87121849
You act like the top is superior but they couldn't even keep the shoulder from ripping.

someone post jurassic world/JP comparisons please

I thought it was especially bad in that
>>
It's a mix of the following:
Nostalgia for the older films.
Color grading on newer films making everything look a bit more fake.
Cherry picking bad frames (plus bad bad compression) for bait threads like these.
Terrible schedules and management with literally thousands of CG shots having to be done in an extremely short amount of time.
Scheduling conflicts with big name actors so they need to be composited together.
Directors, producers and others swaying back and forth with what they want and wanting to "try out" different scenarios and ideas, giving the post production teams even less time to work on what will be the final shot.
Directors and producers in awe of the endless possibilites CG gives them, making them go for impossible camera angles, physics-defying effects etc.
Hipsters desperately wanting to point out how fake and hollow CG is, giving us a culture in which it's cool to hate CG.

There are tons of CG heavy films where people never notice what's fake and what's not. Mad Max Fury Road for example, that show had 2000+ CG shots, excluding the numerous sky replacements, yet when people try to pinpoint a bad CG shot from that film, people often mention the guitar and steering wheel flying towards the camera after the crash in the canyon. The funny thing is that that was a practical effect.
Almost every time you see a ship, a helicopter or a plane, it's CG. Almost every film has a ton of set extension but no one ever notices it. There is still a lot of bad CG out there, but there's a ton of work flying under the radar that the hip CG hating crowd fail to pick up on.

Its because all the old school hard grafters in the industry dont know much about computers so now the young graduates who dont actually understand lighting like the old lot but can woo someone with the CGI doing all this crappy work.
>>
The Marvel films just have a cheap look to them, no attention paid to photography or lighting or sets

>>87127631

how do you miss the point of that shot so hard?

>ask my friend which was his favorite spiderman suit

It looks like a fucking cartoon. Raimi suit best suit.
>>
At about 8.40 in this interview Holland describes how most of the filming for the Spider-Man scenes would be him on a stage doing motion capture. Which they'd later use to make the scene. It's pretty interesting.

He's right though. They're made to appeal to the lowest common denominator so they barely put any effort into them now days.
>>
>>87121849
>>87123150
bottom one is the porn parody Spiderman: I'mComing, not the actual movie
>>
>>87121849

Costume departments have gotten lazier and haven't innovated because their jobs are being replaced by more and more CGI artists.

CGI isn't improving because of an over reliance on it (no blending with practical effects to add weight and dimensionality). Add to that strict deadlines, under-trained talent, and too many cooks in the kitchen.

Practical work is a dying art, and CGI is commoditized and has no legendary artizans.
>>
>>87127779
>They're made to appeal to the lowest common denominator
Yes.
>they barely put any effort into them now days.
No.
Come on now. Do you seriously believe this or are you just trying to be the cool cynic? There's a ton of effort, it just isn't enough all the time.

He was an intelligent science guy. They didn't gave hum web-shooters, but he made a great suit for himself. He was working on it for some time before putting it on. The movie show us that.
>>
>>87122495
That doesn't bother me much at all. I'd rather have a great-looking suit than a crappy but realistic one.
>>
>>87127849
Compared to their earlier films they don't. The CG has been getting worse over the years, just look at Iron Man from 2008 and look at Civil War now.
>>
>>87127849
he's right, the versatility of modern CGI made it possible for directors and producers to become as lazy as ever

OH MY GOD IT'S A SUPERHERO MOVIE YOU DUMMY IT'S SUPPOSED TO LOOK BAD! KIDS DON'T NOTICE (neither do us manchildren that go watch kids movies on a Saturday night)

OH MY GAWWWWD! ARE YOU KIDDING ME? THIS MOVIE IM DEFENDING IS SUPPOSED TO BE BAD! I LOVE IT FOR IT!
