No, he didn't. Originally Inland Empire began as a few scenes unrelated to one another that he was shooting for his website. He then came up with a scene that connected them together. It was too late to go back and reshoot, so he had to use the camera for the rest of the film.

The weakest episodes are 1, 6, 9, 12, 14

Episode 6 is a collection of fantastic vignettes, the pacing of the episode is terrible but at least none of the scenes are bad. Episode 12 is 6 except all vignettes were bad outside of the Sarah and Ben Horne scene.

Episode 9 feels insignificant, nothing "big" happens but it's a really charming hour of television. I'd be more keen on calling this one underrated than "weak" but even though I greatly enjoy it, it does feel a little tepid compared to the others. Easily the best of the "worst" though, in my opinion.

Episode 14 is overrated as hell, I don't know why it is beloved, it has the worst lodge scene in the series. The use of those awful CG effects on Sarah did not mesh well with the gritty real setting, works really well for the tulpas in the surreal red room but real world it suddenly felt not right at all. Freddie and the glove exposition was just terrible too. Monica Bellucci dream might be good, I'll reserve judgement on that until the finale if the dreamer concept actually goes anywhere. In terms of lore, this episode did almost nothing right for me, I did not enjoy any of it, I can recognize that it is a well sequenced hour of television though, it is not like Part 6 or 12, none of it is "bad" per se, it is mostly the writing I take issue with.

Part 1 is still a headscratcher, I cannot wait to rewatch it when all of this is over, cause it felt like such a stilted, sterile and lifeless introduction into the world, it has none of the warmth later episode would have, it felt intentionally drab.

>>87124744

Interesting rundown anon. I agree that Part 14 has been overrated a lot though I liked the Sarah scene. Did you like the journey to Jack Rabbit's palace at all?

Part 11 is god-tier TV btw.
>>
>>87125400
>>87125627
looks normal to me too
>>
>>87125751
Me too, Lynch have yet again defied my expectations. Before season 3 began I thought Cooper would return but be more somber and not at all his old self, I thought it'd be impossible to bring old Cooper back without making it feel hokey. After Dougie, I was sure we wouldn't see the old Cooper again, and that if we did it'd be the introspective and observant lodge version of him in the real world. But they brought the real Coop back and it feels so organic and real. I can't believe it.
>>
>>87124294
This. I remember thinking after it aired that it almost felt a little TOO heavy handed with crowd pleasing elements. But then as soon as episode 8 came out I realized it worked well right before it. And I also think now that episode 7 can just kind of be looked at as the first really fast paced episode as there have been more and more as the season has gone on.

BTW The Return really is amazing when episodes are watched back to back. I get why Lynch wanted it to be viewed weekly but I would be lying to myself if I said it wasn't way more enjoyable when watched straight through. The re-watch value on this season is god-tier.
>>
>>87125831

I think the unsettling nature of the Double R Diner scene was a perfect prelude to Episode 8's mood. It was an episode where strange things were beginning to increase and the overall mood was downright discomforting.

I've said it too many times to people I know but I unironically believe this is the best thing on television right now. We're very lucky to be going on this journey possibly for the last time anons.
>>
>>87125830
Yeah I was convinced we would never see the old Coop either. I was really convinced that he would either never come back or if he did it would be at the very end and it would be at the expense of Dougie's family and everyone's well being. That Cooper would be broken and a changed man.

But as you said, it felt so organic and it was really well earned after 16 fucking episodes. I guess it's true that the Jones' got the short end of the stick. But not at all to the extent I thought might happen.
>>
>>87125751
Because he knows exactly what to do, that he's just right in time for it and he has perfect courage. There is absolutely zero probability he can lose.
>>
>>87124264

>>
>>87120211

>>
>>87125877
>I've said it too many times to people I know but I unironically believe this is the best thing on television right now.

Absolutely. Regardless of how much anyone enjoys The Return it is undeniably a rarity and special thing for television. Literally nothing like this has been done before. And the EXACT same thing has been said of the original Twin Peaks for the last 25 years now. How often does something that was so groundbreaking and unique from the past come back a quarter century later and do that same thing again? Twin Peaks helped shape the modern tv landscape and now it's coming back to world it helped shape and blowing a new hole right through it again.

It's like if The Beatles got back together in the 90s and had another run of classic albums that changed the world of popular music again.
>>
>>87125752
I liked the build up to the Jack Rabbits Palace, yeah. I thought the shot of Naido in the woods looked great, but I was not happy with what followed on that. I think in concept the idea that Andy would make it into the lodge makes sense, but the way it was done left a bad taste in my mouth. It felt like going through the motions, like Lynch needed this scene to happen to move the story forward so they have a television screen playing a bunch of old scenes for Andy and now he knows stuff.

Don't like it. I also think it should have been Bobby, while it's true that Andy is pure and all that, this was Bobby's subplot, he was the man that got them there, it was the place his father told him about. I wish he had been the one that got sent there, and maybe he got to see his father again or something.

Part 11 I agree is the best episode of the season.

Very good point. I think that's been a sort of recurring theme/running joke of this season that's much more apparent when watching the episodes back to back. There's that scene in episode 7 where Albert calls Cole's bluff pretending he couldn't hear him and then getting the scene is episode 12 where Albert asks "What kind?" and Cole responds by giving him the time. The stare Albert gives him and the subsequent silence is hysterical.
>>
>>87127079
This is bullshit but I wouldn't be surprised if Showtime were trying to court Lynch, but he's not interested. To me, this season has felt so final. The moments of silence between Lynch and Miguel, all this nostalgia and so on, it feels as though it's building towards a definitive end.

On the other hand, I want another season. Lynch unchained.
>>
>>87127084
That scene was a great hardening back to FWWM, but I love how 25 years later instead of using a dressed up woman as a secret message it's just Gordon Cole coming across as lecherous and kinda senile.

>TRE CHIC!
I nearly shat myself laughing, the delivery of that line was spot on

Can you guys imagine hw much better the FBI storyline would have been in The Return if Tammy's role wasn't completely wasted on a terrible actress that doesn't know how to do anything?

Chrysta Bell isn't an actress. Lynch just picked her for some reason. She knows she sucks. But if Lynch asked you to act in something, would you really say no? Lynch has a weird way of casting people. He once pulled someone off the street just for a small scene.

>>87127826
No, I think Bobby makes more sense. Andy makes sense in the fact that he's a pure person, but he's so far removed from all the supernatural elements of the show that it feels jarring to have him in the lodge. If I had my way, I'd like none of the Twin Peaks residents to enter any of the lodges. But of the two, to me Bobby made more sense given it was a place him and his father had made.

Really really fast. Because you can notice how, if she really disappeared, the chair would still be there and it's just by the side on the scene she's not in. Just not easily visible.

The curious thing about this scene: In the first one, 2 gun shots are heard. In the second one, 2 are heard too. I'm assuming that the two on the first scene are Diane's and Albert's, but I'm a bit dubious about Diane shooting anything. That to me is not any less suspicious than this whole "Tammy disappears in one shot" thing. Tammy not being there looks more like an oversight.

>>
>>87129101

ve had a theory about Windom since 1992 and here it is - We have never seen the real Windom Earle - that was his doppleganger from the Black Lodge we always saw. Windom found the Lodge in 1967 when he was sent there to investigate project bluebook. He got trapped there (like Coop did at the end of the series). His doppleganger was released (with BOB inhabiting him) who then went on to kill Caroline, Earle's wife. And stab Cooper. That's how BOB knew about it when questioned by Coop and Truman in the jail cell. He was then confined to an insane asylum from which he escaped in 1991. The 25 years was almost up at this point, so he had to return to the Black Lodge but he's forgotten where it is. He goes to Twin Peaks - he remembers that much. Then he finally finds it, enters it with Annie and you know the rest. That's why Cooper is the only one there who speaks normally - even Earl has that slurred type of speech (because he's a doppleganger, not the real Windom). Windon Earl was Dale Cooper's partner. Not evil at all. He was nothing like the evil doppleganger we saw in the show. Keep in mind he sopke normally outside the Lodge because nobody speaks that backwards slurred speech outside the lodge.
>>
>>87128033
>>87125995
Bobby would never be allowed in the white lodge. He isn't exactly an innocent soul considering his past sins, like murdering the cop over drugs. Yes, it was self defense, but it was still over an illegal substance and he didn't even do the right thing like turning himself in.

Interesting. However

>That's why Cooper is the only one there who speaks normally - even Earl has that slurred type of speech (because he's a doppleganger, not the real Windom).

I don't know if that could be a proper explanation. I mean, aside from the singer and the arm, who else in the black lodge speaks normally that is not cooper/whoever just enters the lodge (Diane, Dougie)? What about Mike or Laura? It just seems like an unclear "rule". If it weren't for a few inconsistencies I would instead theorize about speech being slurred from someone's perspective upon entering, so it would be cooper's perspective and such.
