Does anyone else think Cooper looks bad here? I know people age but Lynch seems to have said fuck it in regards to the usual lighting, makeup and styling they employ to make actors look better on camera. Everyone looks extra old and disheveled on this show with bad skin and hair. It sort of adds to the atmosphere though.

Well the characters have shades of grey. Many characters experience the struggle between good and evil in their own heart. That's really what makes Cooper such an amazing character. He just radiates the fact that he has won that battle within his own heart, and it makes the characters and the viewers realize they can do so too.
And why his doppleganger opposite is the most monstrous thing ever put on screen. A vision of what it can be like to completely and utterly destroy the good inside you.
Even Leland in all that he did was just a host for BOB. His worst self strengthened by the demon so that it would always win over his good self.

Maybe so, you're right to a degree. But I disagree with your claim that it's an irreplaceable experience. That would suggest that any and all films and shows somehow degrade in worth upon first watch, that knowing the narrative beforehand lowers their artistic merit. This is wrong, because only once a work has been seen can it be judged and appreciated, and at this point the narrative is already known, and thus discovered. The paradox of your claim is then that a given work is at it's highest worth to an individual only when it has yet been "discovered", which can only mean you're approaching said work with predefined assumptions. This is partly what I meant by "ideals of entertainment", where the significance of spoilers hardly pertains to a given workd as much as it pertains to an individuals own thought.
