Who did it better?
>>87027303
I don't remember the forests of Westeros whispering the Knight Kings name
>>87027303
Nobody does it better.
Makes me feel sad for the rest.
>>87027370
This. Also GOT did it first
>>87028158
Not true, both books and show came after WoW. Why do people keep saying this?
the one for adults
>>87028158
Why do you (This) me and then try to contradict my post? You've baked my ziti bub
>>87028446
Night King isn't even in the goddamn books, is he? I don't remember that shit.
And I'll be fucked if GRRM decides to put that dumb-looking motherfucker in the next book
>>87028706
dunno, I haven't read the books, but afaik when the night king first shown up in the show he was not a thing in the books that had been already published.
And no book has been published since, right?
>>87028706
>>87028929
im not a a book reader of GoT, but from i remember when they first shown the night king all the book fgs went once nice it was a *spoiler* and hes not yet revealed in the books
>>87029179
>>87029179
god did i butcher that post, my point beaing that that he not been revealed in the books yet,the writhers has cliff notes of how the last two books go and they are working with that

Arthas
>Becomes a paladin to prove that he is not some spoiled prince
>His fellow paladins never fully accept him
>Realizes sometimes hard decisions have to be made to save his people
>Forced to cull the infected in Stratholme to prevent the city falling to the undead plague
>Rejected and expelled from his order
>Marches to Northrend to end the war once and for all
>Discovers that the Lich King is but a pawn of the more terrible Burning Legion invasion yet to come
>Realizes he needs the power of the Lich King to save his people from the Burning Legion, it's the only way
>Takes Frostmourne and merges with the Lich King to save Lordaeron
>Frostmourne's whispers finally drive him mad
A complex character with realistic motivations and an interesting story arc.
The Night King
>Some forest pixies stabbed him with a slab of glass and made him undead
>Now he stares at things while his undead minions march
No motivation, no personality, no backstory, only MUH CGI
BRAVO D&D
>>87028929
True. I think they went past book territory a loooong time ago.
>>87029330
Damnit. Night King looks so dumb. I won't be able to get that stupid face out of my head if he decides to finish the books like that.
>>87029969
Based Arthas. He truly did nothing wrong.
>>87029969
It's really a shame that WoW butchered his character so much.
He's literally just a cameo throughout the xpac (LOOK, IT'S ARTHAS! YOU REMEMBER ARTHAS RIGHT?!), then you get a shit battle and cheesy-ass ending.
>>87028543
So Arthas then
The one that had Kel'Thuzad as a friend
>>87030361
>tfw at one point Arthas had kelthuzad, sylvanas, and kaelthas in his entourage
>>87027303
>>87027370
>Season 8 Episode 1
>We're panning across and endless frozen wasteland
>Sean Bean's voice begins to narrate
>"My son-"
>In the hazy white distance a circle of standing stones appear.
>"The day you were born-"
>An altar in the center resolves from the gloom,
>"The very forests of the North whispered the name..."
>A adolescence's corpse, pale and frost bitten can be seen laying atop it
>"...Brandon."
>The corpse's eyes open. They burn blue.
It's basically guaranteed at this point.
>>87028706
>Night King isn't even in the goddamn books, is he?
He's not, no. There's a myth about a guy named "The Night's King" but it doesn't resemble anything in the show at all.
>>87030541
I would mark out and be enraged simultaneously
>>87029330
>of how the last two books go and they are working with that
Bullshit. They're making it up as they go. They started doing that even before they ran out of book material.
One is a wight, the other is a litch. Huuuuuuge difference.
>>87030361
>you will never have a skelebro who can bring mad bants in your krew
>>87030060
>Culling
Not wrong
>Burning the ships
Wrong
>Killing the mercs
Wrong
>Taking up the soul eating demon blade
Wrong.
>>87029969
the night kings origins will definitely be part of the plot
>when your grim dark manchild hand holding experience encroaches on a toy for kids
>>87030719
>killing your dad
>killing all the elves
>killing everything really
>>87030866
>fantasy, video games and grim realism are for children
http://wowwiki.wikia.com/wiki/A_Symphony_of_Frost_and_Flame
Warcraft ripped off asoiaf.
It's literally a parody of the name.
Metzen is a hack
>>87031005
>Metzen is a hack
And still a better writer than Dungeon and Dragon. Yes I fully understand the gravity of what I just said.
>>87030926
>blatantly conflating what i've said to make your show for low iq look good
>a literal shot-for-shot remake
>>87028706
There's a Night King, but he is an entirely different character. A person who was a Lord Commander of the Night's watch and fell in love with an extremely "pale" woman who had blue eyes. He married her and ruled some castle for some years all the while committing various atrocities and being a tyrant. Finally he was deposed by the united forces of the King of the North and the King Beyond the Wall.
So he is nothing like the show. George even said that the Night's King in the book is a legend that is no more alive than Bran the Builder.
>>87028446
>>>87028158
>Not true, both books and show came after WoW. Why do people keep saying this?
>WoW
>Being this much of an underage fag, jesus.
A game of Thrones came out in 1996, and Arthas and the Lich King appeared in Warcraft 3 long before WoW came out.
>>87027303
Warcrack
>>87029969
>>87030148
Now that they have opened up the door to mega retcon with time travel bullshit they are definitely going to explore Arthas stuff again maybe redeem themselves.
Also the new Hearthstone xpack is all about him, they kind of do him justice.
>>87027370
>westeros is full of psychic meme trees
hm....
>>87030676
I wouldn't trust the care of my favorite giant floating pyramid to anyone else tbqh
>>87034871
The first book didn't have anything about the Night King retard
>>87028158
Nope. Night King isn't in the first 3 books.
>>87037623
>>87037644
I guarantee Martin hasn't played Warcraft. This one was (((them))).
>>87031005
What did they rip off from ASOIAF?
>>87027303
Neither gets a pass. Warcraft is the most derivative shit in the genre. When they run out of warhammer, lotr and norse mythology lore to rip off, they go into retarded kung fu panda territory.
Death lords are an extremely common trope. Who gives a shit if these two coincidently place them in the arctic? I'm sure it's been done before.
>>87027303
WoW
Arthas is a handsome warrior prince wielding the coolest sword ever
the night king is just some ugly zombie
>>87031005
>wowwiki
>not wowpedia
kys redditor
>>87037948
>and when warhammer runs out of ideas they continue to rip off of tolkien and dungeons and dragons
wow i can do it too
>>87031005
>>87037948
this, i was a Blizzard fan, but man they literally recycled everything
>>87029969
>post yfw they stab the night king again with a dragon glass dagger and he becomes double night king
>>87038063
lol dumbass, that was their thing from the beginning
they couldnt get the licence to make a warhammer game so they made warcraft instead, and they drew elements from LOTR and star trek and any other famous fantasy/sci fi shit that the makers were obviously into
the human in warcraft even has a joke how blackrock is mt doom
>>87027303
I don't even watch this shit, but it ripped off WC, ahahah the balls
>>87038192
apparently it was the other way around >>87031005
as you can see there is a mission in wc3 named in homage of ASOIAF
>>87027303
Left is actually a character, right is a device.
>>87033072
I was literally waiting for them to look up and cheer him
>>87027303
warcraft ripped off parts of asoiaf and combined them with other popular works, and now the show is ripping off warcraft
>Comparing Knight king to my nigga Arthas
>>87038253
How could they have ripped off something that didn't exist back then? The night king didn't exist in asoiaf in the same form he is in GoT. See >>87033272
There was literally no story element in the first asoiaf books that they even could have ripped off regarding the whole Arthas lich-king storyline.
>>87038492
People are just retarded as fuck my dude
>>87030524
>Kaelthas
What? When? Kaelthas hated his guts, because he was in love with Jaina
>>87038492
oh well then D&D have ripped off WoW no doubt
the homage must be due to the fact that the undead are in the frozen north, but the Night King character is a (shitty) rip off of the superior character of Arthas
Reinstall WC3 and come play the GoT map on Bnet, you faggots.
>>87030361
Dont forget anubarak.
Arthas had the best bro of all the heros of Warcraft.
>>87031005
You seem confused.
Warcraft 3 had a level named after ASOIAF as a homage. They didn't copy anything from the books. There is no Night King in the books.
GoT has copied the entire concept of a supernatural king in the frozen north leading an army of fellow undead, complete with generals (Death Knights) riding undead horses and even bringing a dragon back from the dead and copying the flying sequence entirely. They don't mention or reference Warcraft at any point, hoping this will just slide.
Homage =/= Ripoff
KYSThey also stole the Coldsteel concept from some poor kid's Deviantart.
Have they no shame?
>>87029969
Blizzard did it better.
