As amazing and gratifying as it was to see him back at 100% I can't help but feel like another shoe is going to drop.

No it's a TV show. I'm not trying to be a smartass, I swear it's going to get meta just like Inland Empire. But it's not going to be bullshit like a Deadpool comic, it's going ot mean something. Even if it doesn't get meta it's still presented this way.

It's really apparent if you notice back during hte first four episodes that the box with the experiment is set up like a television in a living room. After that there are countless scenes that make it feel like you're somebody watching someone due ot the camera, or framed so someone's in a makeshift TV, like they're behind glass or something. Or scenes of other people watching people through TVs, or watching TV.

We're basically spirits feeding on the emotions of the people in the TV. There are scenes that make it very clear that we exist in the show. Becky's scene where the camera zooms to Steve and the girl he's having an affair on. When it gets all floaty and dream like. The lodge spirits behave like actors and TV does to us. Beyond space and time, and can live on after death. Red curtains = theatre curtains. Also the black lodge uses electricity to transmit spirits, like a tv.

This is all a dream we live in. TV and movies are our collective dream. So is the internet, which is why Lynch did that silly desk thing. He put the internet int he wood like how spirits are there.

I'm rambling but htis has to make sense to someone.

but that's the whole idea. Have you seen "Munchhausen" by Terry Gilliam? All effects are handmade, no CGI whatsoever. In Jurassic Park, there is a scene with a dinosaur head dummy that chews someone up or something. These things are easily identified as handmade effects and that's what makes them so great.

Lynch has included so many bad-ass effects. The Convenience Store shutter effect, known to everybody who works with digital video editing, the kind of early Quake engine graphics of the sea and white lodge scenes, the goofy effects of Cooper being sucked into the wall-socket, Dougie and Diane turning into smoke...

These effects need to be exactly how they are in the show, because you KNOW it's an illusion. So why bother going all Roland Emmerich with expensive, cheesy state of the art CGI? The CGI crap from Independence day 2 still needs several years of work to really blend in with a movie. I cringe at these "awesome" effects in todays movies, because they are still shit and end up being lifeless and way too calculated.

So you accept it, you watch Dougies hand shrink, his head shrink and break down into black smoke with weird sound effects. Lynch is an expert with these things and the fact that from an effects departments view, all this may look lo-fi and goofy, has nothing to do with his intentions. He's an artist and a painter. Abstraction is one of his main tools.

The editing is partly terrible, true. I hated episode 9, because there was literally nothing going on in it. It was completely boring compared to E8. Lynch has claimed it's like "watching a very long movie", which is not what you experience at all. Most of the side plots of the old Twin Peaks characters is not believable, seems out of place and very mediocre, bad acting even. The whole show could completely do without Dr. Jacoby and his querky internet vblogging bullshit. It was half funny, half lame.

Considering that Lynch went back to do a TV play (!), he still does a great fucking job. The expansion on the TP universe is really incredible and how he and Frost implemented old plot holes, riddles, characters like the woodsmen etc. is just awesome imo. The whole convenience store thing is such a strong image, along with Doppel-Coop. these twists on their own are worth the entire series.
