Another example of this is the Battling Bud poster, it serves to establish Bushnell's personality with a quick shot instead of having another character sit down and mention "hey our man bushnell is a real fighter" like they would in a Nolan movie, yet some people assumed that it was teasing the fact that he would punch Ike the Spike to save Dougie when they saw it

My complaint was that this was as close to a deus ex machina as you can get. It's a jarring cut in what was there up to now coming just at the right time. And once Coop wakes up, he seems to know exactly what must be done to solve all problems and end the series. It might have been needed since they had started a lot of story threads that wouldn't have gotten resolved in time otherwise, but it feels a bit artistically dishonest.

I'd say that's overly-literal of an interpretation. The song is about how we all change in subtle ways and usually not the way we wanted, but we can't go back and pretend we haven't.
