Have Jyn live.

Cut out a ton of characters, then flesh those characters out so we care about them when they die. You could even keep all the fanservice scenes!

Also, either write Tarkin out, or recast him if his role is so essential. Or, if you have to make him CGI only, shoot the scenes so that he's always in shadow or seen from a distance. Same with Leia: she could have been shot from behind in the finale of the film and it arguably would have had greater impact, but nope, we had to have our cake and eat it too.

Basically: remove most of the characters, and avoid CGI human faces.

Make it a heist movie as well as a war movie. Make it so the whole plot is about a team of rebels stealing the death star plans Mission Impossible style but more soldiery and less spy. Remove all the shit about Jyn's Dad, Forrest Whittaker and them assembling a suicide squad because that's all boring as fuck, barely makes any sense and lasts most of the movie.

Thats not star wars though. In the original script it was stated that there are speakers in the cockpits and turrets that converted sensor information into audio cues to create a situational awareness. So a TIE fighter doesn't really have that awesome scream, thats just how the computers interpret the sounds.
