This was the moment I realized I loved Dougie. This was before the comedic elements of season 3 had really been introduced, the first part was extremely stilted and dry, and part 2 was surreal and dark, I was still trying to peg the show. I had gone in fully expecting it to be Fire Walk With Me 2.0.

When he pulls his arm up to point in the same direction as the security guard, I fucking lost it. Bless Dougie, the LV storyline is the greatest thing to have graced television in a decade.

Part 5 was just an amazing Dougie episode in general, by the end of it I was fully sold on that character. It's funny, I remember thinking back then that I had no idea what he was doing with this, where it was going and questioning myself over the fact that I was enjoying it so much. I had no idea how long my enjoyment would last for, but I remember already after just 2 episodes of it thinking this is really testing the patience of people, and I didn't know if I was right or wrong to love it. I hadn't really justified it in my mind back then, just enjoying it on a surface level.

But with every episode, the intention behind it became more clear and I feel like Lynch and Frost have really earned what they're doing with the Dougie stuff. People that call it trolling can fuck off, it is beautiful.

In my opinion the return is the best acting he's ever done. Dougie and Mr C are both characters that could be played super hammy but he plays both so subtle. And the way he manages to make them so different is has been super good, like when you watch a Mr C scene you're not thinking of Dougie or Kyle, its just Mr C and vice versa. I never said I was against recycling ideas, if I was, I'd not like Lynch in the first place, but what I meant was Lynch is going overboard now compared to his previous work, which felt like their own unique entities. Honestly, Cooper chasing after his Doppelganger all season would have been the most boring conventional trite shit they could have done, talk about a weak hook for the season. In fact, fuck all that imposed grandeur importance fans place on season 3 "NEEDING" to have.

Lynch has stated so many times that he loves Twin Peaks for the world, the original idea behind the show was to never reveal the killer and just focus on little stories happening in the town of Twin Peaks. The Return isn't about resolving or returning with a bang and purpose, it's about stepping into a world that Lynch and Frost have created.

what ive noticed is how much the show has changed since part 1. If you rewatch the first two episodes they were really slow paced and bleak, then until episode 8, the show changes the tone and starts to have some really tender and comical moments mixed with a lot of atmospheric scenes.

Then after the psychedelic clusterfuck that was episode 8, the show changes tone again and its going faster and focused in plot development since then, with the culmination of this episode 15. Just compare how short the scenes are in this episode and how focused they are compared to what we saw in the first half of the season, they feel like almost completely different shows.

This is seldom if EVER pulled off, an actor playing two or more roles, you're never able to accept it, especially not if the roles have such stark contrasts to one another. But Kyle does it so well here that whatever role he plays you get 100% immersed in and forget about anything else.

Definitely right about this, anon. I would say that looking back at it now, it is apparent that already with the very introduction of Dougie Jones, more and more warmth was being injected into the show.

Part 1 is definitely the most stilted and dry episode in the entire run, it's a bizarre premiere because it's so lifeless and focuses largely on things that seem insignificant and not connected to anything important in the bigger picture. I don't think there was any music in that premiere episode either.

It's the worst episode, but I still find it fascinating how it really feels like we've come a long way since then, the show is not just progressing in plot but quite literally warming itself up. After having seen Part 1 and 2 it would be hard to imagine something like the diner scene in Part 11 with the Mitchums, something oozing in style and charm.

Right before it started I had 4 coworkers that were claiming they were excited about it and I was glad I going to have people to talk to about it. By two weeks in it became evident that no one was willing to watch it and I didn't feel like being that asshat that pushes people to watch shit.
