This. Coming out of the theater my first complaint was that there weren't enough of the classic alien species in the film - no twi'leks, trandoshans, ithorians, etc. Alien species in general as part of the armies were lacking.

You could say the First Order is Xenophobic as it's supposedly true but there still isn't decent alien representation in the Republic. Ackbar, Nien, and Asty (who got shot down) were the only three Republic aliens that were named. Two of those are old characters.
