>I’m told that Wiseman and di Bonaventura are now looking for a screenwriter to script a reinvention of the venerable action series, one that is sort of a prequel while still leaving room for Willis to play McClane as well. Basically, he’ll bookend a story line that will be set much of the action in 1979, when McClane was a cop in gritty New York City and showing how he became a die hard kind of guy.
The first Die Hard was good because the main character was a normal guy. A prequel that shows him doing cool action stuff in the past will retroactively ruin the first film.

I'm actually glad and impressed that people know the origine of the Die Hard plot came from.

I'd rate 3 higher (9.1) and 4 lower (7.5), but otherwise agree
it's hard not to see 1 with nostalgia goggles and gonna have to word what >>61768889 said about 2, it isn't that spectacular of a movie but it is classic die hard
i don't understand how involving brucey in that concept makes any sense, but i also don't care because mctiernan isn't involved

they could do a "how i met your grandmother" story in a story

then it'd pretty much be a late 70s straight cop-drama but with Brucey bookends. it could be not terrible if they have fun with it. also, pleb-tier opinion probably, but I like hyper-reality stories in a story so it could be a bedtime story but told by john "yippee ki-yay motherfucker" mcclane where 4th wall breaks grounded by grandkid and action sequences can go over the top but with a solid reasoning (princess bride meets guy we knew at beginning of die hard 1 with shirley [i think that was her name] as the love interest)

already done
Get JGL to play young McClane.
