I thought it was enjoyable. I don't like horror movies much, and it wasn't particularly scary. It was fun and kept me interested. I think it's worth giving a chance.
>>
>>79182630
ehhh not really. it's a neat concept but i'd give it a 6/10

How come his career never took off outside of Sunny? Just heard an interview he did with Marc Maron, and it seems like he had/has ambitions to be a serious actor. Based on the work he does on the show it seems like he could actually pull that off

So it it just typecasting, does he have a reputation as an asshole or something?

He kept losing roles to Chris Pratt. If Pratt ever dies, he should be the #1 suspect.

>>79182481
He was honestly considered for the role of Starlord in GotG. Can you fucking imagine?

The handful of minor roles he's done outside of Sunny were all awful.

Can we finally come to an agreement that this show is completely overrated and utter horseshit?
>LGBT pandering themes
>Promoting pedophillia
>Promoting underage sex to children in a subtle way
>Steve is fucking annoying
>Pearl is a fucking psychopath
>Garnet's voice actress SUUUUUUUUCKS
>The plot doesn't start going until Episode 71
>It's overall very boring
>It's transparently SJW pandering despite how many fans claim that it isn't when it actually is and they secretly know it is
>It has a more toxic fanbase than MLP
>Did I mention how fucking boring it is?

I watched this because of a thread a few nights ago, and it was fun. It was really "good" in a cheesy/low-budget kind of way.

Now I'm extremely interested in late 70s and early 80s Star Wars rip-offs.

Which ones are "good" and which ones are utter trash/boring?

OP here. The more like Star Wars, the better. I don't just want cheesy sci-fi. I'm looking for blatant rip-offs that lift plot elements, set designs, lightsabers, etc. from Star Wars.

Also, this was known as Star Crash 2 in Spain. To my knowledge, it has no links to the original, outside of some stolen stock footage. It's basically an unofficial/unauthorized sequel to a knock-off movie.

How can one man be so based? Why is this not being discussed here? It's one of the best shows if the last 12 months.

"It has no pace, sloppy continuity, bland characters... It's my contention that John Carpenter was never meant to direct science fiction horror movies. Here are some things he'd be better suited to direct: Traffic accidents, train wrecks and public floggings..." - Alan Spencer, Starlog magazine November, 1982

"A surprising failure" "Carpenter's most unsatisfying film to date." - Phil Hardy, Science Fiction (1984)

"Too phony looking to be disgusting. It qualifies only as instant junk" "A foolish, depressing, overproduced movie that mixes horror with science fiction to make something that is fun as neither one thing or the other. Sometimes it looks as if it aspired to be the quintessential moron movie of the 80's" - Vincent Canby, New York Times

"It seems clear that Carpenter made his choice early on to concentrate on the special effects and the technology and to allow the story and people to become secondary. Because this material has been done before, and better, especially in the original "The Thing"" - Roger Ebert

"This movie is more disgusting than frightening, and most of it is just boring." David Denby, New York Magazine

"The structure of the piece reminds unpleasantly of porno films..." - Daily Variety

"So single-mindedly determined to keep you awake that it almost puts you to sleep" - David Ansen, Newsweek

"A wretched excess" - Gary Arnold, The Washington Post

"The only avenue left to explore would seem to be either concentration camp documentaries or the snuff movie." - William Parente, The Scotsman

"What the old picture delivered – and what Carpenter has missed – was a sense of intense dread." Variety (In 1951, the same paper had said of Nyby's film: "The resourcefulness shown in building the plot groundwork is lacking as the yarn gets into full swing. Cast members fail to communicate any real terror.")

"If you want blood, go to the slaughterhouse. All in all, it's a terrific commercial for J&B Scotch." - Christian Nyby, director of the original

Audiences didn't show up, either. Despite Carpenter's proven track record with Halloween ($47 million), The Fog ($21 million), and Escape from New York ($25 million), the box office for The Thing only amounted to $13.8 million, with an opening weekend gross of $3.1 million.

"In France, I'm an auteur. In England, I'm a horror movie director. In Germany, I'm a filmmaker. In the US, I'm a bum." - John Carpenter

"I take every failure hard. The one I took the hardest was "The Thing". My career would have been different if that had been a big hit... The movie was hated. Even by science-fiction fans. They thought that I had betrayed some kind of trust, and the piling on was insane. Even the original movie's director, Christian Nyby, was dissing me." - John Carpenter

What the fuck did I just watch?

This film should've been straight up horror. It's set up properly for that with stupid, headstrong and unlikable characters who selfishly seek unnecessary resolutions through reckless means... the villain is menacing and well designed for a horror antagonist but he makes his first appearance towards the end of the film and then briefly dies without much fanfare.

It's like the filmmakers wrote the word 'disappointing' on a whiteboard and went from there whilst simultaneously funneling all of their funds into special effects and cinematography.

What the fuck happened here?

>What the fuck happened here?

Damon Lindelof's usual hack style of writing.

The guy likes to write grandiose mysteries beyond the scope of his own intelligence and they fall flat when the premise, execution and outcome are dumb as a bag of hammers.
>>

What happened is that you didn't realize that Jesus was a space jockey and the black goo is an analogy for religion - the outcomes of it's use depends entirely on the intentions of it's user

>Pure engineers use it to make life on Earths
>Send Jesus after a couple thousand years to see what's going on
>Earth is crawling with war mongering monkeys that crucify space Jesus
>this inspires hate / impurity in the minds of the engineers
>the goo reacts, weaponizes, and becomes the sweet black bringer of death Xenomorphs that wipes out all life on the planet they found

Also humans are inherently selfish, so the goo always reacts in an impure and weaponizing way (this is why nothing happens when david touches it, he's an android and has no moral intention)

Despite most of the characters being retards, this movie was kino
