What are some movies where the MC gets everything they could ever want, but their life turns into a nightmare?

No Country for Old Men?
Risky Business almost then it turns right around
Brewster's Millions
Maybe you'll be nicer to Robert De Niro's acting choices from now on huh? Feel bad for shitting on Dirty Grandpa now that you know he's in debt?

He brought it on himself

Burn the coal, pay the toll.
How do these rich guys keep falling for this shit. The whores they marry aren't even good looking.
All these movies were shit. What the fuck happened to Hollywood?
Hell or high water was entertaining even though I am not 100 % sympathetic with the characters. Stop living in the middle of nowhere ffs, it's over!
Arrival was ok but a bit slow. I thought it for better nearer the end when it tied everything up. And the emotion was done well.
Hacksaw ridge was pure kino entertainment.
I think the problem may be that arrival and HOHW felt like smaller scale movies (and these indie films can sometimes feel insubstantial or like lightweight experiments, even when they're good). They're like arrows that aim straight for the Oscars bull's eye when something like the social network or saving private Ryan or return of the king are trucks in comparison
Hacksaw Ridge, Arrival and Hell or High Water are good. The rest is boring oscar bait.
Hating modern films doesn't make you patrician.
Fences and Moonlight are really good, though I'm talking about the actual Broadway play of Fences.
>664 days until Avatar 2
Does anyone ever even think about the Avatar movie let alone watch it?
Oh boy, can't wait for all the mainstream body disassociation porn
It's crazy that James Cameron is making so many of them. It just makes no damn sense.
Post your favorite actress that portrayed the Analog Interface to a moral ASI at war with an immoral ASI.

What kind of stuff is she wearing underneath to make her tits and ass look so good? Whenever she wears skimpy clothes on video everything is flat as a board but whenever I see pics of her she looks so hot.
Watching this ahead of the awards tomorrow night, what's your views on this? Anyone dislike/enjoy?

Best movie of 2016 hands down, absolutely zero "I'M ACTING" in the performances, best written dialogue in years, Casey is brilliant.
Also besides the heavy drama it's one of the most genuinely funny films in recent years too, the situational humor doesn't break the tone at all.
Now don't read anything about it and don't mind my opinion at all actually, go watch the film and form your own opinion.
>>79793934
Brilliant, thanks
Literally just finished watching it an hour ago. It was really great. The most real film I've ever seen.

Most boring piece of shit i've ever seen in my life.

The Spy Who Loved Me
Looked this guy up on IMDB. He's a background actor. I used to do background. Being typecast is pretty much the whole deal. I played nerd hundreds of times. I didn't get pissed that I never played jock, or cop, or anything that didn't fit my look. When you do background all you are to casting is whatever stereotype your look fits. There's nothing wrong with that.
Now, let's pretend that he's talking about legit credits with lines and shit. Let's pretend he's not the biggest asshole on set, the diva background actor.
>I’m now 26, and in my career, I’ve been sent nearing 30 scripts for which I’ve been asked to play terrorists on screen.
26 with 30 scripts being handed to him. Do you have any fucking idea how good that is? At 26 I was homeless. It took years to establish a balance between a steady job that kept me sheltered and fed with enough flexibility for auditions. I starved. I slept in the most disgusting places. And I busted my ass to get a home and find myself in a position where I get offered one script for a small audience, low-paying project every few months and THAT'S a good place to be for me. I'm 28 and I still bust my ass every day. I don't blame hollywood for giving Ryan Gosling another sensitive hunk role. I don't have the sensitive hunk look.
I'm all for more representation in hollywood. I get it that Muslims should have other opportunities than just terrorist roles. But this is just bitching because someone's having a hard time breaking through in the hardest industry to succeed in there is.

>literally just a background actor
>he will be "done" if la la land wins
So why the fuck does he think anyone should care? You're done if La La Land wins? good for you then you self absorbed shit head
It's La La Land not Allahu Akbar Land.
This is like when that wannabe actress sued IMDB for listing her actual age.

Why the hell did Mahershala Ali get a nomination for Supporting Actor?
He was good, but he was in like 15 fucking minutes of the movie, that one bully during the teen years had more screen time, he'd deserve a nomination more.
>>79793438
Anthony Hopkins won for Silence of the Lambs on a similar sort of time.
Some other old cunt too, won, having only been in the movie for 10 minutes or something.
>>79793486
Judy Dench is who I was thinking of.
>>79793438
He made a strong impression with his 15 minutes though, and he was also the best part of "Luke Cage." Dude had a good year, the Oscar nomination makes sense
Is there any movie that didn't end up at least slightly worse by the presence of children as core characters?
Pic related probably could have been a solid two stars higher if it was like the book and just followed a single man and his journey meeting other survivors. Rewatching this movie after 10 years nearly made me pop a blood vessel. I don't think I've ever been so legitimately 'annoyed' by a set of characters before in a film. Are there even any worse examples?
This looks like it will be worse.
>The young character will be autistic and contribute to the fight against the predator with his “preternatural ability” for language acquisition.
>>79793621
Is that...gonna be a Predator movie? As in, the PREDATOR Predator? What the flying fuck?
If it were any other child actor besides Dakota Fanning you might have a point. Her and that kid from the Sixth Sense are probably the only decent actors under the age of 10 I've ever seen.
Now the teen aged son was annoying, I'll give you that one though.
>I'm paying a young boy for sex!
How in the fuck did this get past the censors?
No one watched the show so no one cared.
>>79793499
This, but I'll just say the later seasons were based
>>79793405
this was literally the only good joke in the whole series.
