There are plenty of objectively shitty movies that I love the fuck out of. Ask me how many times I've seen Romy & Michelle's highschool reunion.
While there are movies that I recognize as objectively well made films that you couldn't pay me to watch again.

What you need to realise about these people is that there are a lot of people that their ideas and their school of thought regarding firearms and combat is the absolute truth. Many of them are amateurs that read shit online and see it as the gospel but it's even common among professionals. People that are trained in some nations armed forces see their nations training and doctrine as the only possible good idea.
Just ask people what they think about fully automatic fire. Everyone has an opinion and everyones opinion is a the only truth.

Only sometimes. In a lot of ways he's very weak, and he does a lot of shitty things to people. He's not supposed to be the writer's idea of "perfect Chad is the absolute coolest," if that's what you're asking.
If you absolutely hate him though, the show's probably not gonna work for you. I think the audience is supposed to care about him enough that you're disappointed when he fucks up, and want to see him do better. He fucks up a lot, though.

Why is figuring while a film is bad so easy, but making/writing a good film so difficult? I can identify mistakes, but make the same ones when crafting a story.

Because one requires years of work, and the other only requires passive consumption.
Writing a good story is the first & easiest part of the process. Not that it's easy, but you can do it alone, for free, and take as much time as you need to make it perfect. Now imagine trying to raise millions of dollars to produce it, and try to explain your vision to a bunch of actors, and find a way to make it all look real for the camera.
